Welcome back to school! We hope you had an excellent summer and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather we had in Delta throughout the summer months. The sun was ideal for getting outside and exercising our minds and bodies in fun and unique ways. It is now time to take this energy and channel it into the learning that will take place throughout the school year. As our District moves toward realizing our vision of being a leading district for innovative teaching and learner success, we will continue to strive for increased and authentic engagement from students, teachers, staff, parents and other educational partners. As a strong learning community, we can enable all children to reach their full potential and contribute their personal best to the future. We look forward to sharing our success stories with you throughout the school year on our district blog, website and social media channels. We are excited for another stimulating year of innovative learning! — Delta School District and Delta Board of Education
Do you have time to volunteer and are looking for a flexible and fulfilling position within your own community? Delta Hospice volunteers offer meaningful support to Delta residents and families living with a diagnosis of a life threatening illness, advanced illness, or loss. After completing a comprehensive training and education program, volunteers can work at the Harold and Veronica Savage Centre for Supportive Care, at the Irene Thomas Hospice, in hospitals, in homes, and in care facilities. Hospice volunteers are important members of the health care team and contribute their skills, life experiences and caring to help improve the well-being and quality of life of those who are suffering. The Delta Hospice Society will be offering a volunteer training session this fall at the Centre for Supportive Care, from Sept. 16 to Oct. 24. Sessions will be Monday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to noon. There are a variety of presenters throughout the 30hour training program, including health care professionals, clients, volunteers and hospice staff. The topics include listening and communication skills, pain and comfort care, living with dying, spirituality, self care, grief and loss and a volunteer panel who present their experiences in the many different areas of service. If you are interested in becoming a trained Delta Hospice volunteer, please call our Reception at 604948-0660 to book a pre-course interview with Coordinator of Volunteers Chris Colero. This meeting will give participants a clear understanding of the course and the expected commitments. For information regarding volunteering at the Hospice Cottage Charity Shoppe, please call the Centre at 604-948-0660, ext 333 and leave a message. You will be contacted by the Cottage Coordinator of Volunteers Sandy Schmidt.
