The show will be headlined with the Snowbirds, Canadian Forces Sky Hawks, and the CF-18 Hornet, with an added army component of a Griffin helicopter. JIM REITH President of the Abbotsford International Airshow President of the Abbotsford International Airshow, Jim Reith, holds up a recruiting poster from the Second World War showcasing a P-40 Kitty Hawk and exclaims, “It’s going to be a terrific show!” In its 51st year, the 2013 air extravaganza will take place Aug. 9-11, featuring as many Canadian Air Force aircraft as possible as a salute to the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force).
On the civilian side, the 4CE Formation Aerobatic Team with pilots Matt Chapman, Rob Holland, Jack Knutson and Bill Stein will perform their death-defying stunts – an act that Reith deems “unbelievable.” The Canadian Air Force T-33 jet will also make its first appearance at the air show and perform a full aerobatic routine. new private front row chalet called “Flight Club” will permit food and drink service with the purchase of a ticket.
“Those photos will then be uploaded, and we are actually going to have the rights to use some of them for marketing,” says Reith.
All the action will be captured by amateur photographers in the “Your Best Shot” photo contest presented by Black Press, London Drugs and the Abbotsford Airshow.
The finalists will also compete for more than $2,000 in prizes and for the chance to be named the Next Generation Amateur Photographer of the Year.
Before the July 14 deadline, the contest received more than 1,000 photos from across the province, boasting colourful landscapes, thoughtful portraits and sportinspired action shots that will be judged by a panel of experts. The finalists will receive full VIP access to the show with preferred viewing to photograph the dramatic aerial stunts.
“The response has been terrific, and it’s a great opportunity for those top amateur photographers to come to the airshow,” says Reith. “I think it will be a great addition to the show.” Whether looking to the sky for that perfect picture, or exploring the ground displays, visit the Abbotsford Airshow this summer and see what Canada can do.
