31ST FILBERG ENTERTAINERS FESTIVAL— 2013 23

Say ‘T hanks’ to a Volunteer Volunteers are the backbone of the Filberg Festival; it couldn’t be done without them. They take time out of their summer plans and devote themselves to ensuring the Festival is the success that it is. Festival artisans and entertainers often acknowledge the enthusiastic attitude of our Volunteers and the fun they seem to

have doing all the work that makes the Festival a unique and special experience for so many. So while you’re at the Festival consider smiling and saying thanks to a Volunteer for doing such a great job. You’ll encounter them as greeters, information and ticket booth staff, parking control support, and many other important roles. Much

of their work happens before the Festival and behind the scenes. To all of our Volunteers who work so tirelessly, we extend our gratitude for your efforts, your dedication and commitment. We appreciate your teamwork, sense of community and the contribution you make to the lasting legacy of the Filberg Festival. You are indispensible!

Filberg gift shop From silk scarves to handmade soaps, visitors to the Filberg Heritage Lodge now have the opportunity to take a memory home with them while supporting the association. The Filberg Lodge Gift Shop opened it’s doors to the public prior to Mother’s Day in 2011, and is located on the second floor of the rustic, former home of R.J. (Bob) Filberg. “This is really a viable option for the Filberg Lodge to enhance the visitors’ experience,” said shop co-ordinator Val Graham. “It’s going very well; we’re getting lots of positive response.” The shop, open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays, offers a variety of items including collectibles, vintage jewelry, cup and saucer sets and more. “We have Floating Stone Enterprise silk scarves and purses from Cambodia, and Waterslip Soap Works soap made in Courtenay,” added Graham. The store is entirely staffed by volunteers, and funds raised are turned over to the board for maintenance of the lodge and buildings in the park, explained Graham. She noted it is important for items to fit in with the overall theme and ‘feel’ of the lodge, and many people are pleased to discover items that remind

them of family. “The cups and saucers remind a lot of people of grandma’s tea set,” said Graham. Many items are donated to the store, and Graham adds the shop is always looking for donations of gently used jewelry, pottery and other

collectibles. “It’s great fun to see what sort of things come in,” she noted. The store is hoping to remain open into the fall, co-ordinating it’s schedule with the Tea House. They are planning to be open from 10 a.m.

to 6 p.m. throughout the Filberg Festival, and hope to re-open during the Christmas season offering vintage decorations and gifts. For more information about the Filberg Lodge and Gift Shop, visit www.filberg.com, or to make a donation to the Gift Shop, call Val at 250-339-7659.

Facelift for historic lodge Erin Haluschak, Record Staff

The Filberg Lodge is undergoing more than just a facelift — it’s being transformed from deep in the heart of the structure to ensure a lasting legacy for years to come. Mo MacKendrick, chair of the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park board of directors explained in an interview that in 2011 the new board created a five-year plan to be put in place for the entire park, including maintenance. Although they knew the lodge had to undergo maintenance, she added, “We discovered the damage is more profound than originally thought.” “The last major maintenance done (in the park) was in 1980, and it has deteriorated since then. We started on a plan based on what we had to do.” She noted the board decided to proceed with a new roof on the chicken barn, replace fencing and rebuild the front porch on the lodge along with replacing the roof. “Then we started on the front of the lodge.” That’s when MacKendrick said they discovered there was more

restoration needed than originally thought — boards and posts were rotten and support beams needed to be replaced. She said the board began applying for grant funding for local contractors to complete the necessary work. Eric Lauinger and son Jamie, contractors for the project, said they have experience working on older, heritage-style homes. Eric said working on the exterior does present some challenges, but the work being done should aid in preserving the building for years to come. “We have to be extremely careful with the interior finishes and carpentry,” Eric explained. “It’s such a character home and we want to preserve that.” The use of timber for the project is following the style already in place, such as knot-lined wood along the front facade of the home. The windows of the lodge are also being restored, and Lauinger said he hopes to have the restoration complete by the fall. “The Filberg Park is a gem of heritage in the Comox Valley; it’s a destination. You can have lunch

at the teahouse, attend a summer concert or just go for a walk,” MacKendrick explained. “It’s one of the best old estate gardens on the Island.” She added she is very appreciative of the great sponsorship and donations, but added, “This is a legacy for everyone, not just the residents in the Valley, but for all of us.” She explained their fundraising comes from four main sources — the annual Filberg Festival, memberships, special events and the gift shop located inside the lodge. “We’re really trying to make

this a community destination,” MacKendrick noted. “There is a large economic impact for the Valley from the events held in the park.” MacKendrick credits the team of volunteers, which she estimates has contributed more than 11,000 hours, with around half of that coming

from the board. The lodge will be open during the Filberg Festival this year, and MacKendrick encourages the public to view the facility and get an idea of the scope of the renovations. For more information about the lodge, visit www.filberg.com.

Our club began in 1919 with the visit of a very accomplished lace maker Elsie Spenser who was visiting her brother on Denman Island. Resident ladies prevailed upon Elsie to teach them the art and skill of lace making. Once finished the set of lessons, the ladies registered as the Denman & District Lace Club, now recognized as the oldest lace club in North America. Traditionally lace was made with cotton, linen or silk in three basic colours — white, ecru or black. As a mark of bringing lace into the new millennium, lots of coloured threads are now used, even some variegated colours and metallic threads. Members of our club have also branched out and now make lace patterns from Rusia, France, Denmark and several different locations in Great Britain, each having their own distinctive style. The Denman & District Club meets each Tuesday afternoon, alternating between the United Church in Comox and the home of our instructor, Sharon Whiteley, in Cumberland. We take great pride in showing off our work annually at the Cumberland Heritge celebrations. We are pleased to be invited to participate in the Filberg Festival this year, having an opportunity to make even more people aware of this antique but still living art form.

No Website Available Anne Marie’s popular line of domestic pottery is both colourful and playful depicting landscapes, seascapes and floral patterns. Her line of tableware is influenced by her early years as a potter in Britain. Butter dishes, casserole and lamp bases are adorned with birds, fish and animals found in her new home in Qualicum Bay where she shares studio and gallery space with her husband woodturner Jason Marlow.

THE JURY PROCESS The Festival uses an anonymous jury process, meaning that jury members do not know the name of the artist submitting work for consideration. All works are judged for quality, originality and overall craftsmanship. Consideration is also given to the overall balance of craft categories at the Festival, and in some categories limits are set. Competition varies within categories, with

jewellery being the most competitive. There are no guaranteed spots year to year, and the mix of artisans changes annually. The Filberg Festival attracts artisans from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, North West Territories, and the Yukon. The jury is made up of 10 people who are experts in ceramics, glass, jewellery, soaps & lotions, textiles, wood and visual arts.

Clothing Babs Studio

www.babs.ca Babs “clothing for women, not little girls”. Born of a fascination with silk, an obsession with clothing, and a passion to make women look their best, the Babs label represents a fresh and real clothing concept. This innovative idea directly confronts the primitive stigma that mature women with curves do not deserve quality, edgy, and interesting clothing. For Babs, designing with integrity is a priority, which is evident in every design. The enormous task of making women of all shapes and ages look stunning, would put the fear of God into most design companies. At Babs, we live to challenge the status quo, in order to bring sophistication to a market that up until now, has been saturated with moo-moos and polyester. The marriage of Asian textiles with modern silhouettes results in a perfect union of wearable luxury.

Jewellery Amy Newsom Design

www.amynewsomdesign.ca All processes in my jewellery production start with raw materials of a precious nature. I am a seasoned metallurgist and create all of my own sheet, wire and casting grain stock. It is from this stock that my jewellery is made. I prepare the original mould, which involves carving shapes in wax, casting it and then molding it. Chains are customized with quality findings and custom tag, all fabricated in my shop. Other products such as my sterling silver earrings, bangles and rings are produced by a fabrication process. Every piece is forged by hand to create an authentic product.

Anat Basanta Designs

www.anatbasantajewellery.com I am fond of using familiar ornamented “retro” patterns, almost kitschy wallpaper like designs, which typically appear in fabrics, ribbons and laces. I use these textured patterns alongside woven silver to capture the softness, fluidity, and airy nature of knitted textiles. Synthesizing metal work techniques with those typically used in textiles, I blur the boundaries between the two mediums. I tend to work with simple forms, and strive to reach the meeting point of beauty and intrigue.

Jewellery Keeping Afloat

www.keepingafloat.ca Until the late 1940’s glass fishing floats were used by fishermen, in many countries, to keep their nets afloat. It used to be common to find floats, that had broken free from nets, washed up on a west coast beach. When plastic became more available, glass was used less and less, and finding a glass fishing float has become quite rare. Kim comes from a family of fishermen, and glass fishing floats were collected by many of them. As a self taught artisan, she was attracted to the beauty and mystery of the precious spheres and working with the floats brought about the name “Keeping Afloat.” Kim is attracted to other “found objects” and her signature “Pea Pod” necklace, made from discarded vintage spoons is an example. Her west coast designs have been popular for over 15 years, and her work can be found in shops and galleries on Vancouver Island.

LISA SID & ADELE

SAMPHIRE

Our first experience of the Filberg Festival was in 1996. Various craftspeople had told Adele that the Festival was well attended and a quality event. We decided to apply for a spot for the first two days and see how we liked it. We enjoyed the experience very much and promised ourselves that we would apply again in 1998. We were already committed to a year in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. We were going on our second teaching exchange for the 1997 school year. Fortunately, on our return

to B.C. we were accepted as participants at the Festival and enjoyed our four days. The Filberg site is beautiful and the atmosphere, generated by the artists, both visual and performing and the enthusiasm of the visitors is friendly and exciting. For the last three years we have displayed our work with the glass that our daughter, Lisa makes http://www.samphireglass. ca/. The combination of glass and clay forms display well together producing a fuller range of colour, a stronger awareness of light and,

consequently, a greater sense of cheerful energy that our customers and visitors seem to enjoy. Since 1998 we have missed two Festivals. Each year we look forward to participating in this wonderful event as it gives us the opportunity to display our latest ideas and also to renew friendships with fellow artists and many regular visitors. 2013 looks as if Filberg will be particularly exciting for us. We are already making plans with Lisa for what we need to do to have a strong display.

Fabulous Festival Food Not only is the Filberg Festival famous for showcasing fine arts, crafts and music it is also known for the delicious food and beverage served by the many food vendors on site during the Festival each year. After all one must keep up their strength in order to shop and dance the weekend away! Food vendors from around Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands apply each year to secure a spot for their food concession. Many of our vendors use only local natural organic ingredients and support local farmers and growers within the Comox Valley and region to help create a sustainable community. They are also great role models in reducing their environmental footprint by offering biodegradable cups, napkins, and cutlery and most condiments are offered in reusable containers. To help achieve a goal of zero waste, they use and encourage recycling on the grounds. This year we welcome back festival favorites - Al’s Falafels from Salt Spring Island, Greek food from Courtenay’s own Yummies & Gyros, Canada’s Best Mini Donuts, fresh Sushi from Kama Bento, Bob’s (Porch) Fish Burgers, Farm’s Gate famous Chick Pea Fries, Waffles from Belgian (via Merville) and Taco’s n More. And new this year we’ve added some Eastern European flavors from a Hungry Rooster, Shawerma from Baba Gannouj, Mango on a Stick, Fruitsicles from Salt Spring Island and Mucho Nacho’s. All food pairs well with a White Caps Cappuccino or hot or iced coffee from Earth Club or Royston Roasting and of course Lemon Heaven is back with thirst quenching handpressed fresh lemonade. “Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.” – Ruth Reich

Visual Arts Christy Mitchell ~ Artist

www.christymitchell.com Monotypes: Oils on paper, dramatic pieces using a variety of subject matter: landscapes, florals, fruit and abstraction. Christy Mitchell has been working in this technique for over 20 years and her work is widely collected including Europe, Japan, Korea and across Canada and the U.S. Using oil paints and brushes, Mitchell paints onto a glass plate, then carefully lays her paper over the wet image. She then rubs the back of the paper which transfers the colour onto the paper. This reverse technique leads to many unexpected results which is what has kept Mitchell intriqued for so many years.

Deborah Strong ~ Artist

www.catnmousedesigns.com Fur or feathers, hooves or claws, from elusive wild creatures to amiable four-legged companions, animals fascinate this B.C. artist and fuel her creative passion. Deborah has made art since she could first hold a pencil and now works in two diverse media: lively paintings on silk and lifelike coloured pencil drawings. Visitors to her booth during the festival can observe her working in coloured pencil and learn about her techniques. She will have a variety of framed original drawings and paintings of animals and birds on display as well as small reproductions, art cards and more. Deborah is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and winner of first prize at the Coloured Pencil Society of Canada’s national exhibition in 2012. The prints I create reveal the stories of everyday life; the things I find oddly and subtly beautiful; and universal settings that connect us to our archetypal hearts. Whether the prints are small and intimate or large explorations, all are intended to engage the viewer to look closer at the world.

ENTERTAINERS — 23

Introduction to entertainers 2013 As a well established juried arts and craft festival, we also appreciate and respect the craft of the musician.

The entertainment at the Filberg Festival has a roots music feel to it with a musical line up that features a stellar group of Canadian performers. This year our musical guests will include such outstanding artists as: the Fred Eaglesmith Traveling Show, the Sojourners, Spirit of the West, Michael Kaeshammer, Ridley Bent, Daniel Lapp, and a rare solo performance by Murray McLauchlan. Some of the musicians will be presenting shows on both the Main Stage, and on the more intimate Garden Stage. But some performers are only featured on one stage, so you might want to check out the

schedule carefully so you don’t miss your favourite musical act.

We anticipate this great music line-up is going to attract many enthusiastic fans and so we ask that festival attendees be kind and courteous as we try and make room for everyone to have a chance to listen to the music. Our aim is to make sure that everyone has a good time. Please remember that admission to the festival is to the overall event, not any particular musical performance.

The Filberg Festival is held to celebrate excellence in arts and crafts and music, as well as to raise the money needed to maintain and restore the picturesque Filberg estate.

BEN SURES

CARLI & JULIE KENNEDY

DANIEL LAPP

FRASER UNION

Ben is a veteran of the contemporary folk and roots music scene. His 2005 award in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Competition is evidence of his genius, his originality, and his tenacious ability to flawlessly pick his way to the top of the guitar heap while telling an absorbing story in words that only the craftiest of lyricists could pen. Often featured on CBC, Ben’s performances are energetic and humourous.

Carli and Julie Kennedy are a Canadian powerhouse duo with a musical bond that only identical twins can share. With Carli on vocals and guitar and Julie on vocals and violin, they have developed a sound that is all their own: a fusion of their background in country, folk, jazz, and Celtic music. These sisters are known for their exceptional harmonies, fine musicality, and sincere songwriting style.

Daniel is a musical mentor to hundreds of students, many of who have gone on to successful careers in the music industry. He has appeared as a soloist with the CBC Chamber Orchestra as well as the Prince George, Victoria, and Vancouver Symphonies. In 1994, Daniel formed the BC Fiddle Orchestra with ten of his brightest students, and he is also the founder of The Victoria Fiddle Society.

Fraser Union is Henk Piket, Roger Holdstock, and Barry Truter. Their three strong voices present some songs a cappella and others accompanied by a variety of instruments including guitars, mandolins, Dobro and banjo. They tend more towards songs of content, rather than songs of contentment. They have been heard many times on CBC radio and continue to make music that speaks to life and the joy of living.

FRED EAGLESMITH TRAVELING STEAM SHOW

Fred is a genuine iconoclast and true original. He has doggedly gone his own way as an independent musical artist, enjoying such high profile rewards as having his songs covered by country superstars Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert, among many other accomplishments. He has also won a Juno Award for Best Roots & Traditional Album and had his music used in films by Martin Scorsese and James Caan. http://www.fredeaglesmith.com/

JAKE GALBRAITH Jake has been a musician for more than fifty years, mostly as a performer, but also in various capacities as a producer and sound engineer. Known as both a solo singer-guitarist and as a multi-instrumentalist Jake has performed in a diverse range of ensembles, and has worked at venues all across Canada. Jake has been the performing host of the Great Canadian Songs concert since 2004, and the Main Stage MC since 2005.

JIM BYRNES

KEN HAMM

Jim was singing and playing blues guitar by age thirteen. The three-time Juno Award winner brings soul, intensity and total commitment to the music he loves whether he is working solo, or with a band. Jim recently recorded an album of songs from the golden age of country music, songs he’s been listening to all of his life. It’s a rare and exhilarating experience. Accompanying Jim will be multi-instrumentalist Steve Dawson.

Ken has a reputation as a dynamic, moving performer, mixing hot slide fingerstyle acoustic blues with his original songs. The Juno awardwinning guitarist has built an international reputation through extensive touring, and also includes a busy schedule of workshops and private lessons. Ken was the 2010 recipient of the Great Canadian Blues Award, given to a Canadian blues artist who has made a lifetime contribution to the blues.

MICHAEL JEROME BROWNE

MICHAEL KAESHAMMER

MURRAY McLAUCHLAN

PAUL PIGAT

Michael is a multi-instrumentalist, a songwriter, and a living encyclopedia of American Roots music. Whether he’s gliding a slide across his national guitar, pulling his bow over the fiddle strings to play a lively Cajun waltz, or frailing away on his gourd banjo Michael’s passion and virtuosity always shine through. His performances inspire us to see the connection between the many cultures and influences that gave birth to American Roots Music.

Michael’s piano playing is literally, a feast for the ears, one that blends ingredients from his vast store of jazz, soul, pop and R&B influences, served up fresh, piping hot, and with a huge helping of joy on the side. That joy is clear from the very first note, as is Michael’s uncanny ability to take ‘a bit of musical this’ and ‘a touch of musical that’ and create a sound that is uniquely his own.

Murray McLauchlan is a Canadian treasure. He has twenty albums to his credit, and many other artists have covered his well-known original songs. In 1993 he was appointed to the Order of Canada, and in 2011 Murray finally released a new CD, “Human Writes”, his first in six years, a collection of ten new original songs. We are extremely honoured that Murray has agreed to this rare solo appearance.

Paul is blessed with a jazzman’s sheen, a rockabilly heart and a hobo’s soul. Paul has been creating sweet sounds for some of the best artists in the country with his distinctive guitar playing over the last several years, quietly compiling a list of credits that would be the envy of anyone in the music business, but it’s when you get to hear Paul on his own that his star really shines.

PATTI LAMOUREUX

PEAR

PRESTON & BONKOWSKI

BARNEY BENTALL

Patti is often referred to as one the smoothest fiddle players in North America, known for her effortless delivery of some of the best traditional Canadian fiddle music of all time. Her old time fiddle style is described as a little bit Métis, a little bit Québecois, and a whole lot of feel. Accompanying Patti, first woman to win the prestigious Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championship, will be multiinstrumentalist Jeremy Rusu.

Lynae and Denis Dufresne began their professional touring career as members in the cast of the most successful fiddle show in the world, Barrage. Then in 2006, Lynae and Denis joined forces to form PEAR. With Lynae as the songstress, and Denis as the musical backbone, PEAR is prime for the picking. The Association of Country Music in Alberta named the duo 2013 Group of the Year.

Preston & Bonkowski are a swinging little duo with Gary Preston on piano, vocals and harmonica, and Anita Bonkowski on bass and percussion. Gary plays the blues with a strong personal style, and Anita has worked nationally and internationally as a drummer, bassist, composer and arranger. Preston & Bonkowski’s music has taken them far and wide, always upbeat and fun, with plenty of juicy harmonica and deep rhythmic grooves.

Barney has been creating music since 1978. Throughout his career, he has released three independent albums and seven studio albums. In the late eighties, he formed Barney Bentall and The Legendary Hearts, and their self-titled album reached Platinum status in Canada and garnered a JUNO award. In 2012 Barney released his third solo album, Flesh & Bone, a collection of songs woven with a storytelling quality that transcends generations.

RIDLEY BENT

SAM HURRIE

SARAH MacDOUGALL

SEAN HOGAN

Ridley is an exceptional lyricist who seems to have an endless cast of characters running around in his head. With numerous awards and accolades to his name, it is clear that Ridley’s enthusiastic story telling has not gone unheard. His albums read like a collection of short stories, showcasing Ridley’s keen fascination for characters whose life on the straight and narrow rarely lasts past the nearest exit to a short, crooked road.

Sam has been playing blues and roots music for over forty years, and is a walking encyclopedia of blues music, and history. He discovered the blues shortly after starting to play guitar at the age of twelve. Sam started out playing in Toronto, later moving to New York for several years, where he was fortunate enough to open for his idol Muddy Waters at New York’s Electric Circus.

Sarah is an upcoming artist who is getting known for her honest and poetic songs, blistering guitar chops, passionate performances, and unique astounding voice. She has been earning rave reviews and she has become the #1 most played artist on Canadian Galaxie Folk/Roots radio. Sarah has performed with such notable artists as Mary Gauthier, Todd Snider, Kimmie Rhodes, and toured with Po’Girl.

Sean is a country music singer songwriter. The response to his debut album in 1996 was extraordinary. His uniquely authentic blend of “alt-country” and “modern rustic pop” immediately caught the attention of country radio and music fans across Canada. Hit single after hit single became staples of country music radio, and eighteen Sean Hogan music videos have aired on Country Music Television. www.seanhogan.net/

SOJOURNERS

SPIRIT OF THE WEST

The Sojourners have created a classic gospel group where the echoes of doo wop, R&B, country and blues weave together to create a unique sound that has all but vanished from today’s world. This is gospel music that can take a punch and remain standing. The Vancouver based Sojourners sound just as at home in a roadhouse bar as they do in a revival tent. Sinner or saved, you should listen to The Sojourners. You’ll feel better for it. www.thesojourners.ca/

Celtic folk rockers Spirit of the West have a dedicated following of fans from all over the world. The band is John Mann: Guitarist, vocalist and charismatic front man. Geoffrey Kelly: Flutes, whistles, bodhran, guitars. Hugh McMillan: Multi-instrumentalist, anything with strings on it. Vince Ditrich: Drums, percussion, vocals. Tobin “The Gull” Frank: Basses, piano, organ, and accordion. 2013 is their 30th anniversary as a band. http://sotw.ca/

WENDY BIRD Wendy is a natural singer, blessed with a deep blue voice, and a lot of soul. Besides working with producer Craig Northey on film scores, Wendy can be heard on albums by Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts, Murray McLauchlan, The Paperboys, David Gogo, and more. When not performing on her own: Wendy is one of the featured singers in the High Bar Gang, and is a member of Barney Bentall’s Grand Cariboo Opry.

31ST FILBERG FESTIVAL 2013

T he Enchanted Forest2013 The Filberg Festival is well known for its children’s program dedicated to children’s activities. These activities are fun and educate their audiences, providing the young with a happy festival experience. Dana Wilson will be using her skills as a former special education assistant, to be the Team Leader in the Kids Area. Families will find many activities to keep them busy in the Enchanted Forest: storytelling, face painting, sand boxes, painting, the crafts table loaded with new craft ideas, water games, movement games, and of course the ever popular Lego tent. This stellar children’s program will be taking place in a new location this year, the Enchanted Forest. This move will result in a large shaded area for the kid’s activities, and is located next to a washroom with hot and cold running water, a baby change table, and flush toilets. Look for the fairies in the trees, the toadstools, the footprints of dragons, and the home of the Enchanted Forest’s Wizard. Check your Filberg Festival site map and you will see that the forest is conveniently located near the main gates. Exciting activities will take place throughout the day keeping families busy and content all day long.

Park and Ride

Park and Ride

PaRking

One of the bet tips from our festival savvy guests: Take advantage of the Park n’ Ride. What would be more convenient then sitting back and enjoying a chat to your friends and family as you whiz past the downtown, long weekend, congestion? Did you really want to sit in your hot car, burning up gas, as you crawl towards the likely filled up neighbourhood streets? The friendly shuttle drivers drop you off near the Festival entrance so you can stroll in and get right to enjoying all the shopping, music, food, and festival fun. The Shuttle service runs during festival hours from 9 am to 6 pm, Friday through Sunday, and from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday. They cycle non-stop during busy times. These shuttles are provided in part with Ambassador Shuttle and play a key role in our traffic control strategy. Donations for this service are gratefully appreciated (suggested donation $2.00 per person). You are asked to please park at the Park and Ride Parking, located at 1475 Noel Avenue. The limited amount of parking space at the festival site is saved for vehicles displaying the handicap icon. These spots do fill up, but access is always available to drive in and drop off passengers at the gate. Be sure to set up a rendezvous point inside the park. We do make a point to keep spots reserved for wheelchair drivers.
