ALS WALK ATTRACTS HUNDREDS

Team Helen supporters prepare to do warmups prior to the annual ALS Walk held Saturday at Mill Lake Park. This year’s event attracted more than 350 participants who walked to raise money for reaseach and patient care for those suffering from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS is a terminal neuromuscular disease that causes the voluntary muscles to progressively weaken, resulting in an inability for a person to move their arms, legs and body. The Fraser Valley Walk for ALS committee set a goal of raising $100,000 this year. The total has not yet been released. Eighty-five per cent of all money raised goes towards research or patient care.
