Tsawwassen man found murdered A 21-year-old Tsawwassen man has been identified as the victim of a murder which took place at a Fernridge home in Langley last week also containing a marijuana grow operation. South Delta Baptist Church pastor Paul Johnson confirmed that his son, Taylor Daniel Johnson, is the murder victim. A service is being held for the young man at the church this Sunday at 1 p.m. ❙ See story, P.3
Berner asks highest court to hear appeal The woman whose impaired and dangerous-driving convictions in the May 2008 death of toddler Alexa Middelaer were upheld by the B.C. Court of Appeal has now asked the country’s highest court to hear her case. Crown counsel John Gordon confirmed Thursday that Carol Ann Berner “has applied (to the Supreme Court of Canada) for leave to appeal from the decision.” Berner’s lawyer, David Tarnow, said he has “a good argument” to support the application, which was made Feb. 5. ❙ See story, P.3

South Delta pair sign with NHL clubs A pair of South Delta hockey players got one step closer to fulfilling their dreams of playing in the NHL this week. Josh Nicholls signed a free agent contract with the New York Rangers on Tuesday, while Taylor Peters was signed to a three-year entry level contract with the Dallas Stars on Monday. Both players were linemates while members of South Delta Secondary School’s hockey academy.
