~ President’s Message ~

Message from Mike Rispin Well here we are again at the end of another terrific season. We had some great games this season and so fantastic tournaments. The kids, the coaches, the parents and the fans were all excellent.

This season wasn’t without its challenges and we will continue to face those as the face if hockey across BC and Canada changes.

At this time I would like to take a minute to thank all the hard working volunteers in our organization, coaching, scorekeeping, timekeeping, team management, raffle tables, penalty boxes, and a parade of other small and large jobs wouldn’t get done without all of you. To our refs thanks for all your hard work and efforts in keeping up your training and skills, it’s a thankless job and you all do if with pride.

To the WLMHA board , we’ve been through some ups and downs, but it has been a great year overall, thanks. Finally a special thanks to our office administrator, Pam, you continue to be the face for many of our parents of hockey in Williams Lake and we appreciate your efforts.

Good Luck in your endeavours during the off season and look forward to seeing you next season.

~ Mayor’s Message ~ As another season wraps up, it is a good time to remember that minor hockey is a vital component of our community, and would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of players, coaches, volunteers, and hockey parents.

Hockey has the ability to bring us all together as we enjoy the camaraderie and healthy competition together at the hockey rink.

As a long-time hockey mom, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication that is involved in minor hockey. Parents get up early to support their children, and coaches and volunteers donate their time and talents to help them grow as athletes and as people. We cannot thank you enough.

To our young players: your enthusiasms to do your best and work together as a team is inspirational. The ideals and principles you learn now, playing the game of hockey, will follow you throughout their lives.

Good luck to all the players, and remember to have fun, be safe, and enjoy this great Canadian sport!

Atlantic Power Corporation’s Williams Lake facility is a wood waste fueled electric generating plant, and one of the largest biomass power plants in Canada. By diverting wood residue from local sawmills, the plant has reduced particulate emissions by more than 90%.

2013 Williams Lake Midget House Year-End Challenge Rules & Regulations All games are played in accordance with BCAHA rules unless otherwise stated below. ***This is a non-contact tournament - no body-checking or hitting.*** With the exception of emergency goaltender replacement, a player may play on only one team in this tournament.

No teams are allowed on the ice until an on-ice official is on the ice. Teams which enter the ice surface prior to the officials will be assessed a minor penalty to the Team Captain.

Pre-game warm-ups will be 4 minutes maximum.

Each team will play five games in a round robin format. The teams will then be seeded and will play in one playoff game on the final day of the tournament. The two teams with the best records in round robin play will play for gold and silver. The two teams with the next best records in round robin play will play for bronze, and so on.

All round robin games will be two 20 minute running time periods. Time permitting, the third period will be stop time. If the spread in the score of the game is 5 or more goals running time will be implemented. There will be no overtime or shootouts during the round robin.

Score Sheets - please check the score sheet prior to each game to confirm the rosters. Make any necessary changes. The Home team is listed first on the schedule. The coaches are to record the results of each game on the tournament results board posted on the WLMHA bulletin board in the lobby of Rink 1. Please record the score, penalty minutes, goals for, goals against, and number of points earned for that game.

Penalties: Minor Penalties: a) A minor penalty will be 3 minutes long during running time and 2 minutes long during stop time. Any penalties that will overlap run time and stop time will be 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length. b) No individual player will serve more than one bench or goalie penalty during one game.

Major Penalties: a) A major penalty will be 7 minutes long during running time and 5 minutes long during stop time. Any penalties that will overlap run time and stop time will be 6 minutes in length.

Misconduct Penalties: A misconduct penalty will be 10 minutes in length regardless of running time or stop time.

For the purposes of the tie breaker procedure, all game misconduct penalties will be recorded as 10 minutes in addition to any initial calls made on the same play. Record all minor penalties as 2 minutes, all major penalties as 5 minutes, all misconduct and game misconduct penalties as 10 minutes regardless of whether or not they occurred during run time or stop time.

Teams will be awarded points for game results of the modified round robin play using the following system:

Win 2 points Tie 1 points Loss 0 points

If, after all modified round robin games are completed, there are 2 or more teams with the same number of points then the following system will break the tie: a. Head to head results from the modified round robin play (if applicable). b. Most wins. c. Highest goal average percentage (total goals for divided by total number goals for and against from all games played) d. Least penalty minutes. e. Coin toss.

Playoff Games: Games will be two 20 minute running time periods. Time permitting, the third period will be stop time. If the spread in the score of the game is 5 or more goals running time will be implemented. In the event of a tie after regulation play, a five minute stop time 4 on 4 overtime period will follow. If still tied after the overtime period, a 3-player shootout will follow, then (if necessary) a sudden death shootout will ensue. (No player may shoot twice until all other players have shot once already.)

Decisions of the on-ice officials are final.

6. I will remember that participants need a coach they can respect. I will be generous with praise and set a good example.

Williams Lake Minor Hockey Year End Challenge February 17 to March 9th DUE TO UNION JOB ACTION THE CMRC IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE The Union which represents the workers at the CMRC walked off the job at approximately 12:15pm Monday, February 18th, forcing the closure of the CMRC. This closure affects ALL programs and services in the CMRC and even those run by CMRC employees out in the community. These services include (but are not limited to) Arenas, pool, Gibraltar Room, recreation progams, Rec and Roll after school care, Swim Lessons, public swimming and skating, etc..

All planned events, private bookings, ice rentals (minor hockey, figure skating, rec league, etc..), Pool rentals (Blue Fins, etc..), Gibraltar Room bookings, or other CMRC uses will also be cancelled for the duration of the job action and possibly for some time after. All sport group offices, arena pro shop and concessions will also be inaccessible during this time.

WLMHA president would like to add that this situation continues to be fluid and we will post what we know as we know it.
