West Fraser notes improvements

AUTUMN MacDONALD Observer Reporter West Fraser says continued US housing starts are credited for market improvements.

Friday, the company reported earnings of $22 million or $0.51 per share on sales of $773 million in the fourth quarter of 2012 and earnings of $87 million or $2.02 per share, on sales of $3 billion for 2012.

“In the second half of 2012 we saw encouraging signs that the U.S. housing market is recovering,” West Fraser’s chairman and CEO Hank Ketcham, said.

“This has led to gradual improvement of results from our building products operations.”

generated operating earnings of $52 million (Q3 –$37 million) and operating earnings plus amortization (EBITDA) of $75 million (Q3 - $58 million).

West Fraser says the improvement in their results reflects improved prices for spruce, pine, fir and southern yellow pine lumber.

The panel segment, which includes plywood, laminated

veneer lumber and medium density fiber, generated operating earnings in the quarter of $7 million (Q3 –$22 million) and EBITDA of $12 million (Q3 - $25 million) as Canadian dollar plywood prices weakened from third quarter levels.

Pulp and paper operations generated operating earnings in the quarter of $13 million (Q3 - $17 million) and EBITDA of $24 million (Q3 - $28 million).

Improved northern bleached southern craft pricing was offset by weakening bleached chemithermo-mechanical pulp BCTMP and newsprint markets.

Lions Club one step closer to making affordable seniors’ housing a reality DANIKA M. HÉBERT Observer Reporter Seniors in Quesnel will have a new option for affordable housing and soon, if things go Peter Nielsen’s way.

The Lions Club has made great progress in their seniors affordable housing project, having purchased the land and recently received certification.

“We got the land and we just got our certifications as a society which means we can start taking donations,” Nielsen said.

The Lions Club has been working toward making this project come to life for some time and are seeing some real progress being made toward bringing it to fruition.

“We’ve been working with the mayor and

Tanya Turner to get some variances and to see about getting it rezoned so we can get more units on it,” Nielsen explained.

“We started with a plan to put 20 units and already we find that’s not going to be enough.

“In order to increase our capacity, we’re going to have to go up in floors.”

Even though this project is in its very early stages, the Lions Club is already seeing it is much-needed.

“We’ve had people calling daily trying to get onto a list that we don’t even have yet,” Nielsen said.

“It’s been very wellreceived.

“People are saying how badly we need it and asking when they can move in and we haven’t even broken ground yet.”

Once completed, Nielsen said the housing project will get a special final touch.

“The Easter Seals house in Prince George is shutting down and the spirit bear they have is coming down here when we’re done and we’ll put it somewhere the residents can enjoy it,” he said.

The next step to making this housing project a reality is actually designing the building.

“We’re going to get an architect involved and plans drawn up about parking,” Nielsen explained.

Although no promises can be made, Nielsen said the Lions Club is going to try to get everything produced locally and to use local services for the project, estimated at

“If we get enough funding through the community, we can try to get everything locally,” he explained.

“I know things are really tight economically in the city right now, but on the other hand, Quesnel has always been communityminded.

“People have stepped up with community projects in the past and we’re hoping they do that now.”

Nielsen said in terms of funding, the project has already seen the city commit to providing between $5,000 and $10,000 for “seed money.”

“We’d like to see it finished in two years, and fund raising with hot dog sales is going to take a long time,” he explained.

The Lions Club has also looked at holding a Mothers Day pancake breakfast on the lot with tents and tables and some benefit dances.

Nielsen is hoping this brings the community out to support the project.

“This is a community project,” he said.

“The Lions are looking after it, but it’s a community project.”

The Cariboo Regional District’s West Fraser Volunteer Fire Department has received a $5,000 donation from BC Hydro to help increase safety through zero energy street lighting at the intersection of West Fraser and Jackpine Flats Roads.

BC Hydro is donating $5,000 toward the purchase and installation of an LED solar-powered street light through their Corporate Donations Program.

This lighting system will be the first of its kind within the Cariboo Regional District and will be installed during the spring of 2013.

“Everyone who travels this stretch of road will benefit with improved visibility,” West Fraser Fire Chief Phil Megyesi said.

This new lighting system will increase public safety at the intersection adjacent to the fire hall, in particular whenever firefighters and fire apparatus are responding to emergencies.

“BC Hydro welcomes applications to our donations program from across the province to assist projects that align with our goals of environmental sustainability, youth and lifestyle and community leadership” BC Hydro Community Relations Coordinator, Dave Mosure said.

Heart condition prompts Bell’s retirement TOM FLETCHER Black Press Jobs Minister Pat Bell says he will remain in Premier Christy Clark’s cabinet until the May 14 provincial election, but he has withdrawn his candidacy to run for re-election due to a heart condition.

Bell has been a key cabinet minister for Premier Christy Clark, as he was previously under Gordon Campbell.

He is continuing his duties as minister of jobs, tourism and skills training, a portfolio created

by Clark as the centrepiece of her job strategy.

Speaking to reporters in his legislature office Monday, Bell downplayed his departure.

“Sometimes when you’re in politics, you automatically think you have become smarter over a period of time,” Bell said.

“I think there’s some evidence that points to the opposite. So renewal is not a bad thing.”

Bell was nominated to run for a fourth term in Prince George-Mackenzie, a seat he has held since the B.C. Liberal landslide of 2001.

He declined to identify candidates to seek the party nomination, but said he hopes to see a competition for the

job.

Bell’s doctor discovered an aneurysm last fall in one of the arteries connecting to his heart.

The condition is typically a bulge in the blood vessel that indicates weakness of the wall. If it bursts it is fatal.

Bell said Monday his condition is being closely monitored, and he may need surgery if the aneurysm grows larger. But for now he is continuing his

work and exercise schedule as usual, and he plans to campaign for the next B.C. Liberal candidate in his constituency.

He said his condition is likely inherited, and not related to the stress of his job.

As forests minister he led numerous trade missions to Asia to develop markets for B.C. lumber, and has continued a similar pace in his current role.

There’s an old adage that says “Anticipation is the greater part of pleasure”. It is quite true for some people. Looking forward to something can bring more happiness than actually buying it. Happiness can also come from spending money on others rather than on ourselves. Give it a try!

Falls are a common occurrence in the elderly. To reduce them, consider the following: check the eyes for cataracts; check the home environment for possible risk situations; check medications. As we get older, our bodies handle medications differently.

Perhaps a change in medication or dose may help. Low blood pressure could also contribute to falling. Get your pressure checked.

NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), like ibuprofen and naproxen are available without a prescription. However, in the elderly, these oral drugs may not be the best choice for muscle and joint pain. Our pharmacists can direct you to a topical gel that would be a safer approach.

When you receive a new prescription, it’s important to be familiar with the drug’s name and its purpose. Our pharmacists will tell you how best to take it and of any food or drug interactions it may have. Also be familiar with the main side effects of the drug and how long the drug should be taken.

Stress is a natural part of life and must exit. One term used to describe stress is “the physiological response to change”. Fight or Flight is a common example of your body releasing adrenaline in preparation to fight off a tiger or run away from one. This sort of stress is primal and happens all the time in the natural world. But unless you live bare footed in the great Canadian tundra, you live in a modified, less natural world. Your stressors are different and sometimes hard to identify. It is easy to identify an oncoming tiger, less easy to identify social segregation. The tiger is presenting a life or death threat that demands your attention right now. In this case you need extra hormones like adrenaline for strength and speed. When the incident is over, the excess hormones are used up and your body returns to normal. Conversely, a person living under the constant stress of social pain also produces extra hormones but, because the stress is constant this person never returns to normal and thus suffers the long term effects of the stress response.

If stress is the physiological response to change, realize that life on earth has changed more in the last 60 years than in all of history. We are no longer confronting tigers; we are facing uncertainty, social decay and economic crisis like never before. And yet as unnatural as our way of life has become, we as humans still impose the expectation that we roll with the punches and somehow find the motivation to put a smile on our face and keep going, when in fact the natural response to unnatural stress is to depress. Depression is the loss of one’s capacity to fully feel the full range of human emotion due to overwhelm of chronic, unidentifiable stress. Regaining your capacity to feel is challenging but not impossible and it is a choice that only you can make from that place inside of you that screams out to be acknowledged and cries desperately to be heard.

egardless of your political stripe, British Columbians should extend their gratitude to departing MLA Pat Bell.

Bell announced he would not seek re-election in the May provincial election due to a heart condition.

Bell has been with the B.C. Liberals since 2001 and has held titles such as minister of agriculture and lands, forest minister as well as his current portfolio, minister of jobs.

In a statement released Sunday, the Prince George-Mackenzie MLA spoke from the heart, explaining his decision to step down.

“Last fall I underwent a series of medical tests that were initiated to check for possible pneumonia,” he wrote.

“My very astute family doctor saw something that he wanted looked into further and as a result found a relatively rare type of aneurism that I may have had for some time. I feel very fortunate that this was picked up because this type of aneurism is rarely detected.

“At this point I am seeing a cardiac specialist and we are monitoring the size of the aneurism. If it grows I will require surgical intervention. If not, I may require just an ongoing monitoring program.”

Bell then went on to thank his wife for her unyielding support.

“She is the one that made any success that I have had possible, encouraging me, making sure that I never lost sight of our core principles and values and being the anchor of our home life,” Bell wrote.

Bell deserves our thanks for his tireless service to his region and this province. Some may not agree with tactics, politics, or party, but surely we can all agree his dedication to what he felt was the betterment of British Columbia is nothing short of admirable.

B.C. gas boom is real, all right

W

hether Christy Clark’s government survives the May election or not, the natural gas “Prosperity Fund” idea floated in last week’s throne speech is a useful one.

B.C. is poised to join Alberta in the upper rank of energy producing jurisdictions, with an expanding network of natural gas collection, refining and processing into liquid (LNG) for export. Clark’s pre-election throne speech proposed a resource fund similar to Alberta’s Heritage Fund that would be reserved for debt reduction and major projects, rather than spent on programs, which tends to happen under the political pressure of fouryear election cycles.

Opposition politicians and media commentators have dismissed this as a pre-election stunt. They note that the LNG industry in B.C. doesn’t exist yet, and may never produce the hundreds of billions of dollars projected over the next 30 years.

I returned for a visit to B.C.’s northeast earlier this month, and I can tell you the gas boom is real. My

B.C. Views parents homesteaded east of Dawson Creek near the Alberta border in 1962, and I recall when our farm was drilled for gas by Gulf Canada 40 years ago.

Many more gas wells have been drilled since then, and country roads have been widened and numbered for industrial traffic. Hydraulic fracturing, already in use when our farm was drilled, has been combined with directional drilling to open up huge new supplies.

A farming community called Montney is the latest hot play, yielding not only shale gas but petroleum liquids, which are valuable for diluting heavy oil among other things.

B.C. has never seen this kind of international investment interest before.

Initial projects have been joined by global players such as British Gas, and

gas be seen as a priority for new global investment in LNG? For one thing, we’re a stable democratic country with a mature industry and competent regulation.

Secondly, the shipping advantage of the Kitimat and Prince Rupert ports to the Pacific Rim has finally been recognized internationally, as coal, forest products, grain and container traffic has climbed in recent years.

B.C. has another advantage that appears to be increasingly important.

The shale gas deposits are deep, under a kilometre or more of solid rock, and most are in remote, sparsely inhabited locations.

That adds cost to the pipeline system, but it has a benefit. At the beginning of the year I predicted that the international protest movement that dishonestly targets Alberta oil would soon turn to demonizing natural gas.

That pseudo-scientific attack has begun, right here in B.C. I’ll have more on that in a subsequent column.

Mitsubishi, a key player in Japan’s replacement of its devastated nuclear power program.

Spectra Energy, which operates one of North America’s biggest gas processing plants at Fort Nelson and has another one under construction nearby, has begun work on a third plant near Dawson Creek. Spectra and British Gas have also proposed the latest of several pipelines, to move all this gas to an LNG terminal at Prince Rupert.

The Kitimat-Prince Rupert region now has at least five proposed terminals, with investors including Shell, Chevron, ExxonMobil and state players from China and Korea.

All this is happening as shale gas is developed across the United States as well. As with oil, Canada is a captive of the U.S. market, and the flood of new gas supply has the North American price at rock bottom.

At least B.C. hopes it’s the bottom. Gas royalties passed forest income to the B.C. treasury many years ago, and now as the forest industry struggles to recover, the province faces tumbling revenues from gas.

Since the Quesnel Rotary Club received its’ Charter in 1958 and the Quesnel Sunrise Rotary Club was chartered in 2000, Rotarians in Quesnel and area have been working within our community to support both local and international projects in our continuous effort to provide Peace through Service. This week of February 23rd, we come together to celebrate the anniversary of Rotary’s creation on February 23, 1905 when 4 businessmen met to discuss “for camaraderie among business associates” which would eventually become known as Rotary International.

There’s something that all Rotary club members have in common: We take action. As community volunteers, we reach out to neighbors in need. We build, support and organize. We save lives and we work locally and globally.

Around the world and around the corner, the 1.2 million men and women of Rotary • Get involved in their communities • Connect with other professionals • Share their time and experience with young people • Support global causes, such as eradicating polio • Use their skills to help others Both Rotary Clubs are also especially proud of the Mumbai Mobile Literacy Project, an international project in partnership with the Bombay Seaface Rotary Club in India. The support of this international Literacy project will go a long way in educating and entertaining the young minds who are deprived of even the smaller luxuries of life.

The members of both Rotary Clubs extend a big Thank You to the residents and businesses of Quesnel who so often contribute to the fundraising events put on throughout the year in support of both local and international projects.

Keith Hildebrand: all about understand food and your body

“I’m living proof you can’t out-exercise a bad diet.”

eith Hildebrand is a graduate of the CHIP program, an affordable lifestyle enrichment program designed to reduce disease risk factors through the adoption of better health habits and appropriate lifestyle modifications.

He’d heard about the program and liked the wholistic approach.

“I had weight issues, I was up to about 260 pounds,” Hildebrand said.

“I also knew Keith Corbett from Rotary.”

Corbett facilitates the CHIP program in Quesnel with expertise, via the Internet, from program founder Dr. Hans Diehl and scientific presenters Dr. Darren Morton and Dr. Andrea Avery.

Hildebrand said his first introduction to the program was the free information session at the hospital.

“I signed up to see what it was about.”

With program sessions almost every night of the week (Monday – Thursday),

Hildebrand said the knowledge he gained was invaluable.

“Although it promotes the least amount of processed food possible and the least amount of meat, I found the knowledge I gained about what effect food and lifestyle has on the body and how well it works was amazing. But I still like a nice steak, albeit half the size I used to eat. I pile a little more vegetables on my plate and a little less meat.”

For Hildebrand it was all about understanding food and what’s in it that was key to his success.

“Exercise is also promoted in the program.”

Hildebrand admitted though he’s living proof you cannot out-exercise a bad diet. He found that out the hard way on a recent cruise.

“It all has to work together.

I worked out every day on the ship and still gained 10 pounds.”

It’s been two years since Hildebrand graduated from the CHIP program and he says there’s been permanent changes to his exercise routine and his food habits to a certain extent.

After finishing the program he

said his weight had dropped by about 15 pounds and he notices a marked decrease in the acid reflux he experienced before the program.

And as for knowing what’s in his food – Hildebrand says he reads the label on everything he brings home from the store.

He recommends the program but encourages those interested to start with the information session, scheduled for Feb. 25 and 26, 7 p.m., main floor boardroom at the hospital.

“But be prepared to exercise self-discipline and a commitment for a solid month

– however, you get a really good meal every night of the program.”

Some of the quirky things Hildebrand has noticed as a result of the Chip program included cleanup of plates and such after a meal was much easier as there’s no grease.

“But meals take longer to prepare; there’s more planning required.”

Hildebrand said he’d do the program again as it would be a great refresher and a reminder of what’s the right thing to do.

“It’s a lot of common sense.”

After the free, one-hour information session Feb. 25 – 26, the CHIP program runs March 4 – April 4, 7 – 9 p.m. in the Quesnel Seventh-day Adventist Church fellowship hall, 1518 Maple Drive.

Cadence coming to Quesnel

QLA presents Canada’s premier vocal group ANNIE GALLANT Observer Reporter Quesnel Live Arts presents Cadence, Canada’s premier vocal group, Feb. 27, 7:30 p.m. in Chuck Mobley Theatre.

Based in Toronto, this a cappella ensemble has been wowing audiences across the country and around the world for nearly 15 years. Whether performing at soldout jazz clubs and concert halls, at music festivals, for educational outreach or for corporate functions, the members of Cadence bring an infectious energy and uncanny verve to every song they sing.

The four members bring impressive credentials to the group. Carl Berger has more than 20 years of musical experience, most specifically a cappella. With his musical degree in ethnomusicology and jazz piano, when not performing, Berger maintains a busy schedule as a vocal clinician and teaching private lessons on several instruments.

He is the co-founder of Cadence.

Ross Lynde began performing as a teenager and enjoyed success with his trumpet-playing, including top 5

in the Canadian National Stage Band Competition. Selftaught on several instruments including drums, Lynde gained musical experience through a variety of opportunities. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance degree from York University and, instead of a teacher, he became the second tenor in Cadence. Lynde continues to play rock’n’roll and piano while taking on small recording projects and teaching in his home studio.

Paul Boichat

September 11, 1936~January 18, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Boichat at G.R. Baker Hospital, dear husband, father and grandfather.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Lynne, four children, Cynthia (Chris), Audrey (Wayne), Keith (Judy) and Kevin (Dorothy), eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

There will be no service by request.

Once at university in Victoria, he earned his BMus and sang with the UVic Chamber singers. In 2005, he moved to Toronto where he won a spot singing tenor with the Nathaniel Dett Chorale for the next six seasons.

During his tenure, The Chorale had the distinction of being chosen to represent Canada by performing at Barack Obama’s inauguration in Washington, DC. Marchand settled in Toronto and along with establishing a respected musical career and earning his masters in music education, he joined

Cadence in January 2012.

Hailing from Charlottetown, PEI, Kurt Sampson began his musical career at the age of 11 adding more and more instruments to his repertoire. At 17, he moved to Montreal to study jazz music at McGill University and added directing to his resume. In addition to his performance credentials, Sampson also worked for Carnival Cruise Lines, the Ceremonial Guard Band in Ottawa and has taken part in numerous festivals, workshops and camps throughout Canada.

In addition to singing with Cadence, Sampson continues to teach private lessons, doing voice work for TV and film, arranging and composing music, contributing to Canada’s jazz scene and supporting all facets of music.

Cadence specializes in popular music from the 50s to present, but also enjoys putting a new spin on songs in the classical, jazz, gospel and doo-wop styles.

From the Beatles to Bobby McFerrin, Sting to Simon and Garfunkel, Miles Davis to Mozart – anything goes and it goes places you wouldn’t expect.

So Stampeders long and thanks for all the wins end ‘Roos’ season in final game of the series JONAS GAGNON Observer Reporter It was a melancholic weekend for the ‘Roos: Saturday they kept their foot in the door in an electric win after playing the closest game of the season, but lost Sunday, putting them out of the running in this year’s playoffs.

“The Stampeders are a playoff team. That team has played years together, and so they played a smart game,” coach Brian Kozak said of the team they had beaten in the regular season.

Saturday’s game started out with some pushing and shoving on both sides and a strong start for the Stamps.

The Stamps’ Brent McIsaac book ended the period, scoring the only two goals in the period at 1:43 and 19:59, putting

the ‘Roos in the hole for the second.

The Stamps put another one in within the first minute of the second.

Justin Fulton led the charge back, going endto-end to light up the Stamps goalie and the ‘Roos’ spirits at 1:28.

Using the goal as motivation, the ‘Roos went on a run for three more goals, with Mike Kaluzny, Jeff Gagnon and Devon Whalen netting the next three goals over 10 minutes to put the ‘Roos ahead.

Williams Lake then found their feet for a three goal run of their own, putting them up 6-4 at the end of 40 minutes.

By the third, the crowd was buzzing with nervous energy — the results of the season riding on the fast-paced game.

Knowing the stakes, the ‘Roos came out hard,

tying the game with a pair of goals in the 13th minute, with Riley Ferster netting the go-ahead goal two and a half minutes later.

With less than four minutes left and a precarious one-goal lead, the ‘Roos played with everything they had, with Ryan Manderson, the ‘Roos goalie, making some key saves against Stampeder players who were earning their name.

With a minute left, the Stamps pulled their goalie for the extra man and, with the seconds counting down, the Stamps’ Jessi Sangha found a loose puck in the crease and scored the tying goal.

The Stamps continued to push through the dying seconds, but Manderson denied them putting the game into overtime.

In OT, the ‘Roos came out with everything they

had, creating chances until Nick Tomassetti found the puck meandering through the crease and put it behind the Stamps goal, causing the bench to erupt and pour out onto the ice.

Somehow, a Stamps player found his way into the celebration to throw punches, causing a boil on the ice before the refs calmed everything down.

There was optimism in the bleachers Sunday as the game started, but the Stamps did everything they could to put out the spark.

“It was like a boxing match and they were the counter punchers. We’d go down, shoot and hit the cross bar; they’d come back and score,” Kozak said.

The game stayed scoreless for a very even 15 minutes, until the Stamps netted their first

at 16:49, to which the ‘Roos responded within the minute, with Paul Girodat coming up the wing, behind the net and popping back out to sneak it past the goalies pad.

Nathan Zurak, who would score five of the Stamps seven goals, counter-punched for the Stamps’, putting their second in before the period ended.

Zurak netted two more in the first half of the second, which damped the ‘Roos spirits and their play.

Tomassetti tried to remount the charge, picking up a rebound and putting it in with five minutes left in the period, but the Stamps put a stop to it, scoring one of their own to finish off the period.

Zurak quieted the crowd, and hopes of a

comeback in the third with the Stamps sixth in the first five minutes.

Despite the defecit, the ‘Roos pushed, creating a raft of chances that was freighted with a load of bad luck, as bad bounces and posts kept the ‘Roos from making a mark on the scoreboard until they pulled their goalie late in the period.

Joel Boyetchko finally found the back of the net for the ‘Roos. But it was too little too late, with only a minute and a half left.

Zurak then negated the goal with an empty netter with seconds left, to put the ‘Roos out of the running.

Depite the stumble at the end of the season, the coaching staff was happy with the progress the ‘Roos made during the year. see PAGE A18

Super League

Playoffs begin with upsets on the ‘A’ side Super league curlers are in full blown championship mode, hunting down wins to make it through the rounds.

With the regular season ending in a three way tie to see who would get the bottom two spots, A&W, Willis Harper and Frank's Supermarket duked it out, with Frank's coming short of the requirements to join the juggernauts.

A&W and Willis Harper joined the championship 'A' side, which included CDC, Douglas Lake, Billy Barker and Investors Group, while Frank's fell to the consolation 'B' side with Karin's Deli, Ski-Hi and JAR Transportation.

A&W started off their 'A' side run with a 8-4 win over the CDC. After sneaking into the championship round, A&W had the task of taking down the regular season champs. Tied at four after six, A&W got their two in the seventh and kept the pressure on the Kids in the eighth to steal two. There was no chocolates given to the Kids on Valentines Day this year, just Buddy Burgers.

Willis Harper, the other 'by the skin of their teeth team', had an equally positive experience on the 'A' side, beating Billy Barker 8-5.

Billy rolled the dice against Willis and came out with snake eyes. After stealing two points in the second end, Willis Harper dished out the hardware and hailed the game shot with a dazzling array of take out shots.

In the third 'A' side game, Investors took down Douglas Equipment 9-7.

The biggest Kubota was working on his tan on the big island while his minions battled Investors right to the end, The see-saw game ended with a popular win by the Investors.

On the 'B’ side Ski-Hi beat JAR 8-3.

Ski-Hi scaffolding rode an early steal

of three toward their defeat of JAR Transportation.

In the other 'B' game, Frank’s doubled Karin's, 10-5.

Four lucky winners chosen from the 1972 ballots will join the Frank's "Red Hot" Desert Tour in Vegas/ Palm Springs this weekend, provided they provide their own hotel, food and transportation. Meanwhile back at the rink, Frank's riding on the back of James (get out of Dodge), playing his last game of the year, were lucky to sneak past the Deli girls.

Looking to the future from A17 “We’re proud of our guys. I think overall, from where we started at the beginning of the year to where we are now, it’s a totally new team,” Kozak said.

“The players have now become a team. Now the systems we have will go forward to the Coy Cup and on to next year.”

Kozak is also proud of the depth of local talent that came out, allowing the ‘Roos to stay a team of Gold Pan residents, with the only out-of-towner currently attending school here and married to a local.

Now, he said, the coaching staff is looking at where the team fell down and figuring out how to fix that for next year.

Waylon L’Heureux, the team captain, was happy with the season, and the fan support, and is looking to the future. “ I just see our team getting stronger and stronger, especially with the great fan support we get in Quesnel. It keeps the team financially stable so we’ll be around for a long time,” L’Heureux said.

The CIHL playoffs continue next weekend with the Williams Lake Stampeders facing off against a very strong Smithers Steelheads team.

The ‘Roos will see action for the final time this season at the Coy Cup in Kitimat, March 12-16, where they will face off against a selection of teams from the CIHL.
