IN THE

NEWS

It was a year of milestones, memorable events and controversies in Abbotsford. (Clockwise from top left) The financially challenged Heat hockey team recorded its first sell-out of two consecutive nights in the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, which also became home field for the B.C. Angels in the Canadian Lingerie Football League. The community rallied in a major way for the elderly Connors, rebuilding their burned out home in just a month. Abbotsford soccer player Sophie Schmidt returned home with a bronze Olympic medal, and MLA John van Dongen created political news when he quit the Liberals for the Conservative party, and later left again to sit as an independent.
