13th annual 100 Mile House Cowboy Concert 100 Mile House on February 9, 2013 We've always tried to bring in new faces each year for this concert, but because of popular demand, this year we're bringing back some good ol' favourite faces. Performers that have helped us make this concert the success that it has become.

Performers that are always there when we need one. Performers that go over so well and are so well liked, every time they're on stage! This year we welcome the following back to 100 Mile House!

It was great to see Matt Johnston back at Watch Lake last September. He brought his wife Ursula along too, and she accompanied him on her mandolin and sang back up harmony. The audience loved them, and anyone that's heard Matt before knows why! His song writing abilities leave the audience in complete silence as he performs them with both his guitar and his harmonica.

The voice of the Spirit of the West radio show heard every Sunday on the Wolf in 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, and Quesnel, Hugh McLennan.

Everyone knows this voice and everyone knows how Hugh, as the evening MC, will move the show along with his never ending sense of humour.

Now here is a favourite face that we haven't seen

for a bit ... the fastest Cowboy Poet in the West. The ever so popular Frank Gleeson! It'll be great to have this guy back on stage ... and if you haven't heard Frank before all I can say is hang on to your seat, have a Kleenex ready for the tears of laughter, and try and keep up!

Gordie West will be with us, too. A guy we've seen quite often in the area doing different fund raiser events and appreciation dinners, etc. I think Gordie figures he can do about 800 songs! and I'm sure you'll enjoy the six or so that he does here for us.

The best part about this concert ... we've kept the price the same as past years, a price that everyone can afford. Tickets are only $15 each pretty good for a full show with this kind of talent.

There's two shows to chose from: a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. evening show, with both shows being the same. The matinee show allows folks to drive from out of town and still get back home at a decent time.

The concert will be held in the wonderful Martin Exeter Hall, 100 Mile House, BC. All proceeds from these two concerts go to the BC Cowboy Hall

of Fame and/or BCCHS Student Scholarships.

Here are the tentative entertainers for 2013 Kamloops Cowboy Festival. It looks like it could be another awesome year!

As you can see by going through the above list we have added some more names ... and we're so happy to be able to include them!

This will be a first time appearance for some of these performers.

2013 will be the first time the Kamloops Cowboy Festival has featured a "Bush Poet" as Carol Heuchan joins us from the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Australia. Dave Stamey from Nipomo, California, is a working cowboy, a mule packer, a dude wrangler, and is one of the most popular Western entertainers in the USA. This will be Dave's first time in Canada. Rodney Nelson will make his first appearance at Kamloops, too. He's from Almont, North Dakota, and is a rancher and part-time brand inspector. Rodney is not only known as a great cowboy poet, but also a humorist, entertainer, and banquet speaker. Another first for Kamloops is Flagstaff, Arizona's "Harmonicowboy", Gary Allegretto. American Cowboy magazine said, "You've never seen or heard anything like it." Gary will also do a workshop and says that he will entertain as he teaches complete beginners to play four Western songs instantly - guaranteed!

Now I just mentioned Gary Allegretto's harmonica workshop but here's a couple more that we have lined up: Doris Daley, Rodney Nelson, and Carol Heuchan will do workshops on writing cowboy poetry. On the music side of things, as well as Gary's harmonica workshop, Gary Fjellgaard and Dave Stamey will do song writing, Eli Barsi will do one called "The Art of Showmanship & Live Stage Performance", and her husband John Cunningham will do one called "Live Sound", on how to dial in the sound board to best showcase your own talent.

New for 2013 ... as well as our own Thursday night get acquainted party at the Convention Centre there will be a dinner dance at the Plaza Hotel this year! Eli Barsi and friends will entertain and the meal is a "Cowboy Buffet". The Plaza is also offering Festival packages this year that will include; accommodation, weekend passes, and the Thursday night dinner dance.

After several months of beautification the Plaza is open once again! They are offering Festival packages and there will be a shuttle bus running from the Festival on a regular basis. Package prices including hotel room, weekend passes, and kick off party dinner dance are available.

News from the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin Don't forget, nominations for the BC Cowboy Hall of Fame are due December 1, 2012.

The Museum's Annual Christmas Tea & Bake Sale will be at the museum on Saturday, December 1, 2012.

President's Message Mark McMillan Things are moving along nicely in most cases, and we're close to saying we're ready for the up-coming Cowboy Concerts and for the 17th Annual Cowboy Festival. Some details have to be worked out, but considering it's still three months away I'm pretty happy with the way things are looking.

The Society had a booth at the Mane Event in Chilliwack, October 19 to 21, and it was well attended ...

I think well worth doing.

It's good promotion for the BC Cowboy Hall of Fame, the BCCHS Student Scholarships, the Cowboy Concerts, the Festival, and the Society in general.

I'm happy to say that Kathy and I will get a break from the hustle and bustle, and from winter, as we head south for a couple of weeks on Billie and Hugh's Spirit of the West Caribbean Cruise in January.

The Mane Event tops last eight years October 19 to 21, 2012 What will they do next year for their 10th anniversary?

How will they improve on what they did this year? It was, in our eyes anyway, the best yet ... an awesome weekend.

The crowds looked to be a little bigger this year, too, which is hard to believe after seeing the numbers last year.

Why do they keep growing? Unlike a lot of other events the Mane Event has a little going on for every age and discipline - jumping, extreme and/or mountain trail, dressage, horsemanship, driving, reining, liberty, long reining, trick riding, and if these aren't enough they also have the tradeshow with over 150 vendors, the amazing Trainer's Challenge, and the Saturday night Equine Experience! All of this, and the fact that there are big plans for the 10th anniversary, makes me think that the spectator count will be

up once again next year!

Dan Steers from Australia will take the silver trophy spurs home with him as he won the Trainers Challenge. Jenny Sherbo from California did a wonderful job with her colt after she was called in last minute (6 days before the event I believe) to take the place of injured Wylene Wilson. Kyle Mills from Kamloops had a little tougher job but put on a good show, both in the round pen and in the finals.

Five different drill teams all did a super job, the breed parades were great, one of Canada's top reiners put on a super display, and Niki Flundra was a huge hit with her trick riding. Jonathan Field and Quincy did their Spanish Dance and the Double Dans from Australia put on an amazing liberty act.

Niki Flundra then teamed up with the Dans for a combination act that brought the house down, in a dark arena, with their line of fire, and burning whips!

What's in store for the Mane Event's 10th the anniversary? Guess we'll have to wait and see, but I can assure you, it will be a weekend you won't want to miss - Chilliwack October 25 - 27, 2013.
