HIGHWAY 4

Crash claims female, 42 RCMP wants to hear from anyone who saw Sunday morning incident NEIL HORNER news@pqbnews.com

A Port Alberni woman is dead after her vehicle slammed head-on into oncoming traffic on Highway 4 on Sunday. Oceanside RCMP Constable Shannon Cutler said the two-vehicle collision happened at Cameron Lake when the 42-year-old driver of a Pontiac Grand Am lost control, causing her vehicle to cross the road into the oncoming lane and smash into an eastbound car. The female driver of the Grand Am was airlifted from the scene to Victoria General Hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Port Alberni Hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Although she said the investigation is still ongoing, Cst. Cutler noted that it does not appear either alcohol or drugs were factors in this crash. Any witnesses with information on this crash are asked to contact the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

HOSPICE

Society is seeking regional recognition NEIL HORNER news@pqbnews.com

The Oceanside Hospice Society provides a service for the entire region, and they want recognition for that fact. At last week’s Regional District of Nanaimo committee of the whole meeting, executive director Lynn Wood, said that while her organization is based at Valhalla House in Qualicum Beach, they provide end of life services to Parksville, Coombs, Errington, Whisky Creek and other communities in the area.
