The Bra Lady Is Coming to Size You Up

Here’s where Barb Chapman, the Bra Lady, comes in.

✁

Are you tired of feeling saggy, lumpy, pinched or strained? Well you’re not alone. As you’ve probably seen on Oprah or read in women’s magazines, over 80 per cent of all women wear the wrong size bra.

Chapman is coming to CRANBROOK ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28th to outfit you with the best possible bra for your body. Chapman said she will be seeing clients on a one-onone basis, explaining the benefits of good bras and measuring their bodies properly. “Most women just want to find a good-fitting bra that’s not uncomfortable,” Chapman said. “What they don’t realize is that a good support bra is also important for blood circulation and enhanced lymph drainage.”

✁

YOu’VE tRiED All thE RESt - NOW tRY thE BESt

✁

Chapman has over 200 bra sizes available for ordering, ranging from 30AA to 52KK. It’s likely that you’ll fit somewhere between those sizes. She offers these questions for women to ask themselves: • Do you have a drawer full of bras but none that fit comfortably? • Does your bust line “bounce” when you walk while wearing your “everyday” bra? • Do you overflow the cup of your bra? • Do your bra straps slip off your shoulders or dig into your shoulders leaving red and painful marks? • Does your bra ride up in the back because you tighten the straps to give you added support? • Have you ever begun an exercise class only to drop out because your breasts ached from lack of support while jumping or running? If you answer yes to any of these you are in need of a new bra, and a custom one could be the way to go.

• NO uNDERWiRES • NO ElAStiC StRApS • NO StRApS fAlliNg Off ShOulDERS • NO RiDiNg up iN thE BACK

You can sign up for Chapman’s bra clinic by calling

She doesn’t come into town very often so she advises booking as soon as possible.

Host an International Student!

&

School Districts 5 and 6 invite families throughout the East Kootenay to host one or two international students starting in February. Most students are from Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Japan, will be studying in Grades 8 to 12, and will be staying for one semester until June. We encourage empty-nester parents or any family to consider hosting two students from different countries. Such double placements are consistently very successful. Host families receive a tax-free allowance each month per student, and weekend and/or vacation coverage is available.

Cecil Ray Goodwin June 13, 1927 - Nov. 13, 2012 It is with great sorrow and regret that we announce the passing of our Dad. Cecil was predeceased by his wife, Eunice, parents Earl Menzo and Maude, Brothers, Dave (Carroll), Lester (Monna), Reno, Lyle, Jimmy; Sisters Alta (Fee), Georgina (Lloyd) and Winnie (Ole), sister-in-law Lorraine, nephews Brian, Gary, Gordon, neice Carrie-Lou and great nephew Dustin. He is survived by his brothers Elwood and Ernie (Lil); Sons Brent (Lorrie), Duane, Keith, Shane (Denise), daughter Carol (Fred); Grandchildren Brandy (Clay), Kim (Truman), Bobbie (Wade), Joel (Serena), Tanya (John), Cole (Stacy), Cody (Claire), Sara (Shaune), Tamara (Chad), Chad (Bethany), Candice, Courtney (Dan), Shayla (Ty); Great grandchildren Daylen, Lane, Jax, Callie, Colt, Jayden, April, Corbin, Payton, Levi, Dawson, Harmonie, Connor, Savannah, Adam, Gavin, Riley, Gabriella, Mckaylin, Carter and Cayden. And many nieces and nephews. Born in Newport Wash, he came up to Wardner by team and wagon when he was 2. Up and down the valley they moved from Cranbrook to Revelstoke. He could run any machine and fix them too. He helped build the White Swan Road from 1956 to 1961. Worked for Crestbrook for many years then formed his backhoe company with 2 sons and dug waterlines and basements among other things in Revelstoke. He was a member of Kinsmen and Kinettes, tried his hand at skiing til he broke his leg, belonged to a curling club, loved to play horseshoes, loved to read and go fishing. In 1973 he moved his family to Cherry Creek Ranch between Ta Ta Creek and Kimberley and took a turn at farming. In 1983 he had his first heart trouble, then another bypass in 1996. For a few summers he drove up to Atlin, B.C. and helped his brother Dave out, haying, picking rocks and anything else that needed doing. He loved getting firewood with his good buddy, Bid. He was always a worker and a man of few words. And he loved all kids! For the last couple years, he spent his days reading, watching game shows, and visiting friends and family at the Dairy Queen. He was a very stubborn guy as Dr. Van R. can vouch for. He did not want to leave and fought valiantly for a week and a half with his kids and families around him. We give a big Thank you to all the great nurses who treated him with such care. Also Cousin Laura (Dave) for being there for us. We will be forever grateful that he kept his drivers license right to the end. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those whose lives he touched. Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, Brother and Friend. We’ll miss you, Dad. Until we meet again. Love you. Godspeed We are waiting until spring to have a day of celebration for Dad, around June 13. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Thank you from all his family.

Rockies will provide a program of career and job performance-related skills along with certifications and an introduction to industry for 12 participants. “The Ktunaxa Nation is pleased that Aboriginal learners within Ktunaxa Traditional Territory will have this incredible opportunity available to them. We are once again very happy to partner with the College of the Rockies as we collectively create a better future for our region,” said Kathryn Teneese, Ktunaxa Nation Chair. Under the BC Jobs Plan, government is committed to providing funding for community-based delivery of programs that meet Aboriginal learners’ needs. ATEP service providers deliver jobrelated training in essential skills and introductory trades training, along with mentoring, coaching and support through partnerships with public, private and Aboriginal-controlled training organizations throughout B.C. The program was introduced in 2010 with an investment of $4 million through the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Agreement. By January 2012, more than 500 Aboriginal people had graduated from ATEP programs offered by 17 Aboriginal organizations. Earlier this year, 11 service providers’ contracts were renewed and another $2.9 million invested. In the summer, a third request for proposals was posted on BC Bid seeking more service providers to bring training and employment opportunities to Aboriginal individuals throughout the province. As a direct result of federal LMA funding, thousands of British Columbians are receiving training that will advance their careers, assist in securing new employment, and ultimately improve the economic outcomes of individuals in B.C. and Canada. The current agreement will expire on March 31, 2014, and B.C. is preparing to enter discussions with the federal government to renew this important agreement and ensure our province has the skilled workforce required to support longterm labour market needs and economic growth.

Abundant Harvest:

Ever wonder about the “Wild” Native Plant Garden at the Front of MBSS? The garden was established in the spring of 2003 as an interpretive educational garden. Over 120 students were involved in the initial establishment of the garden. The garden reflects the natural beauty and hardiness of the native plants that would naturally occur in the Ktunaxa traditional territory. Ms Blissett’s Sustainable Resources 11 class harvested 15 lbs of Oregon grapes from the school native plant garden and made grape jelly from their harvest. They also harvested rose hips and made rose hip tea. “The jelly was delicious!” according to student Brendan Garman “and it was nice to be able to pick all of this fruit right outside of the school”.

ERASE Bullying Program

Staff throughout SD5 Have recently taken part in the ERASE Bulling Program. ERASE Bullying (Expect Respect And a Safe Education) is a comprehensive strategy that will make British Columbia a leader in addressing bullying and harmful behaviours. The 10 elements of the plan will begin in the 2012/13 school year and include:

• A five-year, multilevel training program for educators and community partners to help them proactively identify and address threats. • New online tools, including a Smartphone app, for kids to report bullying anonymously. • Dedicated safe school co-ordinators in every school district. • Stronger codes of conduct for schools. • Provincial guide-

lines for threat assessments. • New online resources for parents. • Formal protocols to guide and co-ordinate the work of school and community partners. • A provincial advisory committee with representatives from police, school and so-

cial agency partners. • Focusing one of the existing six provincial teacher professional development days on antibullying. • Anti-bullying and threat assessment training for pre-service teachers. “With this strategy, the British Columbia

government has firmly placed itself as the national leader in supporting the development of anti-bullying and threat assessment protocols,” said international expert Kevin Cameron, executive director of the Canadian Centre for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response.

You Can’t Take it With You

You Can’t Take it With You is awesome, you gotta see it. When the script is great and the cast is great, you can’t lose. We have that. It tells a story that we don’t hear very much anymore: ‘Life is short, so make the most of it. Why chase the money if the money doesn’t make you happy?” It also speaks to the power of family and of a warm and inviting home. It marks that special moment in time where you realize that you love something, someone or somewhere so much that you decide to stay forever. Plus, it’s funny. So, come. We’d love to have you. Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s 1937 Pulitzer Prize winning comedy You Can’t Take it With You plays at the Key City Theatre November 29-30 at 7:30 pm and December 1 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15.00/$12.00 and are available at the Key City Theatre Box Office or by calling (250) 426-7006.

This sculpture was created during the spring of 2004 and unveiled September 16 of that year. It is a three dimensional stylized rendition of the Mount Baker Wild logo, fashioned from scrap metal, with many parts from the former Cominco mine in Kimberley. It was sandblasted to achieve a porous surface that would rust uniformly to resemble the natural colour of a bear. Its creation was a collaborative effort between Nelson artist John Mckinnon, art teacher Deb Kennedy, and Mount Baker Art 12 students.
