Minding the cenotaph Oak Bay municipal parks workers Steve Gaudet, left, and Sean Cromarty clean the base of the cenotaph on Beach Drive as they prepare for Sunday’s Remembrance Day ceremony. The cenotaph, built in 1948, was constructed on behalf of the 97 men and one woman from Oak Bay who lost their lives in the Second World War. The lady of the cenotaph is never cleaned or powerwashed, but left to age gracefully.
