If you have been ffollowing the Foundation news inthe paper, on the radio, in the mail, and on television you will know 2011-12 has been “all about the Emergency Department” (ED). In September 2009 we announced ou ur aspiration to raise $4 million for the purchase of new equipmen nt for the ED. Fast forward three years to October 1st 2012, the firstt day that patients could seek emergency care in the new facility. T This is a model for Canadian emergency medicine and something to o make us all proud. At the time of publication the Foundation has raaised more than 75% of the goal, or $3 million.

This is a testamen nt to the shared determination of our community, but we are not fin nished yet. Help is still needed for lifesaving equipment in the ED. From cardiac monitors ($38,000), to defibrillators ($16,000), to Nurse’s Carts ($2,000) you can still help equip your Emerg gency Department, the busiest on Vancouver Island.

We would like to complete funding on this project by June of 2013, the end of the currrent fiscal year. You can still help.

In September 2 2011 we held the 18th annual Golf forr Life Charity Classic at Fairwinds with more than 100 golfers outt for a sunny round of golf. Always held on the first Friday of September, the tournament has proven to b be an enduring tradition for corporate partners; 2011 raised more than $70,000 for the Emergency De epartment Expansion. In January Lotto forr Life continued our focus on ED and sold 96% of the 5,000 ticckets, raising almost $120,000. Bill & Daphne Jennings of Qualicum Beach were the lucky winners. At the end of May Central Vancouver Island Financial Institutions co-hosted Run forr Life welcoming 160 0 participants, 70 volunteers, and raised more than $21,500 for ED. The Foundation’s events are don ne in collaboration with many corporate sponsors and with the support of thousands of participants; w we could never do it without you. Thank you u for making it happen!

If you have been ffollowing the Foundation news inthe paper, on the radio, in the mail, and on television you will know 2011-12 has been “all about the Emergency Department” (ED). In September 2009 we announced ou ur aspiration to raise $4 million for the purchase of new equipmen nt for the ED. Fast forward three years to October 1st 2012, the firstt day that patients could seek emergency care in the new facility. T This is a model for Canadian emergency medicine and something to o make us all proud. At the time of publication the Foundation has raaised more than 75% of the goal, or $3 million.

This is a testamen nt to the shared determination of our community, but we are not fin nished yet. Help is still needed for lifesaving equipment in the ED. From cardiac monitors ($38,000), to defibrillators ($16,000), to Nurse’s Carts ($2,000) you can still help equip your Emerg gency Department, the busiest on Vancouver Island.

In September 2 2011 we held the 18th annual Golf forr Life Charity Classic at Fairwinds with more than 100 golfers outt for a sunny round of golf. Always held on the first Friday of September, the tournament has proven to b be an enduring tradition for corporate partners; 2011 raised more than $70,000 for the Emergency De epartment Expansion. In January Lotto forr Life continued our focus on ED and sold 96% of the 5,000 ticckets, raising almost $120,000. Bill & Daphne Jennings of Qualicum Beach were the lucky winners. At the end of May Central Vancouver Island Financial Institutions co-hosted Run forr Life welcoming 160 0 participants, 70 volunteers, and raised more than $21,500 for ED. The Foundation’s events are don ne in collaboration with many corporate sponsors and with the support of thousands of participants; w we could never do it without you. In 1998, Nanaimo Lifeline became the first subsidiary of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. In the years that the Foundation has managed the Nanaimo Lifeline Program the number of Lifeline clients has more than doubled.
