Because the James is competing with the neighbouring Olympic Village, Cressey says it was important to have a design that was different and innovative. “This whole neighbourhood has been thoughtfully planned,” says Hani Lammam, Cressey Group’s vice-president of develop-
ment. “It’s pedestrian friendly, close to transit and the retail opportunities in Olympic Village and Cambie Village…. Vancouver’s been very successful in embracing urbanism.” He says extra care was taken to make the units intimate and thoughtful, with special attention paid to finishings and the kitchen. As well, much thought was put into answer-
ing the following question: “How do you you make a compact space liveable?” “We really think through the storage and the kitchen,” Lammam says. “It’s all about function.” There are three units left at the James.
