Discussion into one of the most pressing items on the agenda for Township’s series of meetings on Monday disintegrated when council members, after almost 10 hours of meetings, sniped at each other, interrupted each other, and questioned the wording rather than the meat, of Councillor Charlie Fox’s motion.

The intent of the motion was explore ways to improve traffic safety along 16 Avenue. The motion was placed on the agenda several days before a Surrey couple, both 76, were killed when their car struck a dump truck head-on.

The motion said that when the new Port Mann Bridge becomes fully operational and tolls are in place, more drivers will use 16 Avenue and “will bring with it greater cause for safety and access concerns.”

Noting an increase in traffic accidents that have taken lives and damaged property, Fox said that the Township should approach Surrey and the Ministry of Transportation to seek a direct access from 16 Avenue to Highway 99.

The motion also calls for staff to prepare a report, with TransLink engineers, on improving traffic flow and how it impacts residents, the possible use of ‘Green wave” in which future traffic lights are synchronized, and roundabouts.

Councillors added their own suggestions, while questioning the wording.

Fox was annoyed. “I can’t believe that my motion is being treated as garbage,” he said. “I’m really frustrated.”

Annoyed, he reminded council that suggestions he raised five years ago for improving 16 Avenue were turned down.

“You don’t live on the street,” said Fox, whose home is close to 16 Avenue. “You don’t see the accidents.”

Fox said that the recent double fatality catapulted the issue to headline news, but for people who live in the area or try to access 16 Avenue, “it’s an ongoing issue.”

Fox noted that between 200 Street and 272 Street, there are only two spots where police can operate speed traps or safety checks for westbound traffic.

He said that 16 Avenue is sometimes so congested that traffic on 248 Street is backed up for more than a mile.

Councillor Kim Richter suggested that 16 Avenue should be modeled after Guide Meridian which runs from the Aldergrove/ Lynden border crossing. It has been widened to four lanes, has a series of roundabouts, and is designed to accommodate trucks.

Councillor Bob Long suggested that creating a direct access to Highway 99 would only increase traffic on 16 Avenue, while Councillor Grant Ward asked for a TransLink presentation to see what its plans are, and Councillor David Davis asked for staff to examine the issues before contacting Surrey.

The final motion approved by council, with Fox and Councillor Michelle Sparrow opposed, was for staff to examine safety issues, but not in consultation with other agencies such as the City of Surrey, the MoT and ICBC.

Select committee to examine blueberry cannon bylaw

A bylaw governing the use of blueberry cannons is one step closer to reality.

Last Monday night, Abbotsford council listened to 11 delegations, who spoke both for and against giving the city the power to enforce stricter regulations on the audible bird scare devices.

Coun. John Smith raised the issue last month and has been pushing for a bylaw that would allow the city to create different regulations than those of the ministry of agriculture.

A select committee will now be formed to develop the bylaw, including Mayor Bruce Banman, two city councillors and four citizens.

“Those seven individuals will consult with the industry, the blueberry council, the farmers, the complainants, the ministry of agriculture and they will come up with recommenda-

tions,” said Smith.

He expects the committee to present a report before council by December.

Smith would like to see the starting time for cannons moved from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., and the evening deadline moved from 8 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Existing provincial guidelines call for the devices to be shut off between noon and 3 p.m. Smith would also like to see cannon setbacks extended from the current guideline of 200 metres to 300. And he is suggesting “tough” fines for noncompliance.

Even if a bylaw is created, the ministry of agriculture would have to approve it.

The blueberry cannon debate has been going on for years. Residents living close to farms using cannons or other devices have complained that the noise is destroying their peace.

Opponents feel the ministry regu-

lations aren’t strong enough to stop some farmers from abusing the cannons.

“Does my neighbour have the right to wake up my entire family at 6:30 a.m. every morning, regardless if it be Saturday, Sunday or a holiday? They have that right,” said Gary Suddard.

He told council that it’s not just cannons. Orchard pistols release a 100-decibel shrieking sound, terrifying livestock, said Suddard.

Another device used to scare birds away from the berry crops are squawkers, which are speakers placed around a blueberry field that play recorded sounds of a “bird being tortured.” He said they are allowed to be played every one minute and six seconds.

He said the solution is simple – farmers should use nets.

Mayor defends LEC expansion, says pool in the works Black Press

Township Mayor Jack Froese has responded to critics who have denounced the $7.7 million expansion of the Langley Events Centre.

In his address at Monday’s council meeting, the mayor also took responsibility for not making a public announcement about the project until weeks after work began.

He said that on July 23, after several meetings, held in camera to protect the confidentiality of construction contracts, council authorized the Langley Facilities Society to proceed with the first phase of development.

This involves a new double gymnasium and an indoor turf/dry floor facility. These, as well as eight changing rooms, are currently under construction east of the LEC.

In-camera discussions were first held on June 11 when council sought proposals for the first phase of development, Froese revealed.

Funding comes from the $15 million Land Capital Fund which was approved in the 2012 budget “and was fully disclosed to the public and approved unanimously by council,” Froese said.

“The Township of Langley has used this fund in the past to facilitate construction of buildings or land acquisition and then complete a budget revision to include the project into a specified capital project fund,” Froese said. He said that the LEC expansion costs will be included in the 2013 budget.

Asked in an interview why a public announcement was not made until

work had begun, Froese said, “That’s a good question,” noting that final approval was given on July 23, the last meeting before council’s six-week break. Several council members, including Froese, immediately left for holidays abroad.

“We didn’t expect it to go that fast,” Froese said of the process, “and I should have asked for a resolution. It was unfortunate, the six week break.”

In his Monday night statement, Froese said: “As members of council, we were unable to release any of this information as we are bound by legislation regarding confidentiality of ‘in closed’ meetings . . . In hindsight, as chair of the meeting, I should have asked for a motion to release as soon as the contracts were signed and complete.”

In that same interview, Froese said that at no time was the sale of the Township’s forested land in Glen Valley intended to finance the LEC expansion.

Part of the proceeds, however, had been earmarked to finance the purchase of the vacant Aldergrove Elementary school property where the Township plans to build a new ice rink (to replace Aldergrove Civic Arena), pool and community centre.

“The LEC expansion and the Aldergrove Recreation Centre are both moving ahead concurrently as two separate projects,” he said.

Funding for these projects will come from reserves and a multi-year plan of disposing of land assets that are surplus to the Township’s needs.

“The taxpayers will not be shoul-

dering the capital cost of these projects,” Froese said.

The LEC expansion will not impact taxpayers, as operational costs will be absorbed by using existing LEC staff and increased revenue.

However, there will be a cost to taxpayers to cover some of the operating expenses of the Aldergrove Recreation Centre, which will be built into subsequent budgets, he said.

Council’s lack of public consultation was condemned by Councillor Kim Richter. In a letter to the editor Richter slammed the decision, saying it was “highly unethical, if not illegal.”

Council votes for flashing lights on 256th Black Press

Several months ago, Councillor Bob Long urged his Township council colleagues to support installing an overhead flashing red light at the intersection of Robertson Crescent and 256 Street, where a young Aldergrove hockey player was killed in February, 2011.

Staff had already advised that based on traffic volumes, existing signage, visibility and collision history, new safety measures were not warranted.

The intersection was left out of a report presented to council on Monday. Instead, staff recommended installing overhead lights at the intersections of 232 Street and 56

Avenue, 40 Avenue and 216 Street, 56 Avenue and 240 Street, and 240 Street and Robertson Crescent.

Long, Mayor Jack Froese and Councillor Kim Richter had earlier in the year expressed concern about the safety of Robertson Crescent and 256 Street, calling it “scary.”

On Monday, Richter commented that it is “an odd, uncomfortable intersection” with sight lines that are not good. “This is a very dangerous intersection and it needs lights,” she said. “You only have to drive through there once to know it’s a creepy intersection.”

But Councillor Grant Ward urged council not to go against a staff recommendation.

“I don’t see it’s warranted. We are not engineers on council and I’m prepared to back up our professional staff,” he said.

In June, Long said that council should do all it can to make the intersection of 256 Street safer, Long said. “A light is very inexpensive compared to a life saved. What is the cost of a life?” he had asked at a June meeting.

Car collides with truck at marked intersection Aldergrove Star

A Langley woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance after crashing into another vehicle at the intersection of 240 Street and 56 Avenue early Monday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., a northbound Cobalt collided with an eastbound Ford Explorer. The investigation suggests the driver of the Cobalt, the Langley woman, didn’t stop at the stop sign, said Langley RCMP. The front end of the Cobalt crashed into the Explorer’s passenger side.

The female driver was trapped inside her vehicle unresponsive but breathing, with bleeding from her head, said Langley Township fire department’s Bruce Ferguson.

Township firefighters secured a landing site for an air ambulance to touch down on 52 Avenue, he said.

The male driver of the Explorer was driven by ambulance and he has been treated and released.

Police continue to investigate and anticipate the Cobalt driver will be issued a violation ticket.

fighters knocked down a fast-moving grass and brush fire in the centre median of Highway 1, just west of Mount Lehman Road, at approximately 3:45 on Monday.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue assistant chief Ron Hull said the fire was “moving incredibly fast,” due to dry, windy conditions.

Hull guessed it was caused by a cigarette butt or possibly a spark from a vehicle, and said it is important that motorists use their ashtrays, and not put lit cigarette butts out their windows.

VICTORIA – Mike de Jong’s debut as B.C. finance minister was a grim one. The first financial update for this election year projects a $1.4 billion decline in natural resource revenues from Kevin Falcon’s one and only budget in February.

Most of that is from declining natural gas revenues in the next three years. And it’s not just the price of gas that’s lower than the finance ministry’s array of private sector experts had forecast.

The volume of B.C. gas sold is down as well, as abundant new sources of shale gas come on-stream in the U.S. As with oil, that’s currently the only market Canada has.

And it wasn’t long ago that the energy ministry was trumpeting its monthly totals for “bonus bids” paid by gas companies for drilling rights in northeastern B.C. That gold rush has wound down as shale deposits are staked and the price falls.

De Jong’s response shows how serious this problem is for any B.C. government. He inherits Falcon’s political commitment to present a balanced budget next spring. How he will do that, and be believed in a heated post-HST election campaign, remains a mystery.

universities and Crown corporations as well as government operations. He hinted at an even harder line with unions, as the government’s largest employee group continued selective strike action.

This, and the familiar vow to rein in travel and other discretionary spending, won’t come close to replacing the lost gas revenues. Asset sales, which Falcon came up with in a desperate effort to dig the government out of its huge sales tax hole, won’t show up on the books until next year, if they go ahead at all. Raising taxes or fees? Forget it. It’s either cut programs or run another deficit.

The one glimmer of hope in what de Jong called the “ugly” resource revenue picture is that natural gas revenues don’t have much farther to fall. And then there is the light at the far end of the tunnel, in exports to Asia where the price remains much higher.

That project took two important steps forward last week. Spectra Energy and British multinational BG Group unveiled plans for a third major pipeline to bring northeast gas to the coast, this one to a site near Prince Rupert proposed for a liquefied natural gas facility.

And on Friday, the Haisla Nation and the B.C. government announced a land use agreement to develop

another LNG export facility on the Douglas Channel near Kitimat. Two proposals in that area have already received federal export permits and financing from global energy players, including Chinese, Japanese and Korean companies.

One of the bills jammed through by the B.C. Liberals in the hectic legislative session this spring was to do away with another of those federalprovincial overlaps that make industrial development so slow and difficult.

Ottawa has sole authority to regulate reserve lands, but agreed to delegate that to B.C. and the Haisla, allowing them to pioneer the latest agreement.

This is a major breakthrough, not just in the industrial development of northern B.C. but in dismantling the century-old logjam of aboriginal resource claims.

At the centre of Premier Christy Clark’s much-promoted jobs plan is the target of having three LNG export terminals and associated pipelines in production by 2020.

That now looks like a more realistic target. But the jobs and revenues won’t arrive in time to save the B.C. Liberals from their current predicament.

Editor: As the oldest elected councillor in Langley Township, I have seen things that I never imagined, but every once in a while something still surprises me. Luckily I am at the stage of life where I can call ’em as I see ’em.

Fundamentally, I think it is a good thing for politicians to disagree and that the process of debate can lead to a better decision as all sides of an issue are fleshed out. When I disagree with a council mate, I assume that they are acting genuinely and honestly and looking after the best interests of the community.

Thus it was with extreme disappointment that I reviewed Councillor Kim Richter’s surprising and distorted comments about the Langley Events Centre (LEC) expansion (letters, Sept. 13).

It appears that there is a tendency among some in Langley that if you disagree with them it is not because you may have a different vision, purpose or direction, but it’s because you must be engaging in secrets, you’re unethical or you’re diverting money from somewhere else. Or you simply make statements to label your opposition, to generally indicate they are bad persons, because there’s nothing that can go on without there being a secret or hidden agenda, or some other nefarious purpose. They are doing bad things to the community that only the ‘whistleblower’ can save.

It’s a shame that we resort to labelling people, rather than commenting on the merits of their argument. So, let’s instead talk about the crown jewel’ of the Township’s Recreation Culture and Parks Division, specifically our marvelous LEC. LEC has been an unprecedented success. It is used by more people and on more days than almost any other facility in the Fraser Valley. Yes, there are bigger facilities, but I don’t think there are any finer ones.

So, what has council been up to? Well, with all this success, and with the opportunity to try to expand that success and take care of additional users, who may or may not be financial partners, we embarked upon an expansion. This expansion will not cost $7.25 million, but will in fact cost $7.725 million. Was this a surprise? Hardly.

Anyone who has seen the LEC knows its amazing success. In fact, I can think back to about June 11 (not July 23) when these discussions began with a certain urgency, because if we wanted to have the facility fully functional for a number of events starting next year, and accommodate new potential partners such as Wrestling BC, B.C. Lacrosse Association, Volleyball Canada, and others, we had to get down to work and get on to it.

Now a fair question is — how are we going to pay for this expansion, or will it actually detract from other projects? The answer is, we’ll pay for it from land sales and reserves, and no, it won’t delay or defer other projects. We need to work on projects that balance the entire community and cannot simply work in one area to the detriment of the others. So as a consequence, when we develop our budgets we make sure that we have envelopes, or categories or accounts, if you will, that we can use to meet changing or moving priorities.

Now why did this process start out behind closed doors? Well, part of the revenue to build both the facility at LEC and in Aldergrove will come from land sales. The Community Charter is quite clear that discussions on land sales at least have to begin in a closed session, so that no other parties are given an unfair advantage in knowing what lands may be available for sale. If a local government sells lands in one area or buys in another, it can affect market conditions and it was with that backdrop that the process began.

Why not go through a lengthy period of public comment? Well, ordinarily when you are going to repair or expand an existing facility because it is bursting at the seams with use, you have a pretty good idea in terms of what the demands are on that facility and what people are going to say. As a consequence, when the decision was made to proceed, staff worked quite expeditiously and went through a process with council’s explicit authorization to obtain bids on the building, as we do in almost all situations.

How will this proceed without affecting other projects? Well, part of the land sale discussions involve a multi-year process to dispose of assets, some of which will go through a rezoning process, to ensure that we have funds available to maximize our returns and can contribute to amenities in all facets of the Township.

You can alarm people by saying that the money is going someplace else or it’s not necessary, or there is a hidden agenda, but in so doing you need to provide credible examples and alternatives or other solutions. Taxes will not go up for the capital costs of these projects.

Services will not be reduced. Certain areas will not be favoured over others. And our youth, adults, and seniors will have facilities that they can use.

Left out of the loop, again

Editor: I am deeply disturbed as I read the letter titled “No public input, no public process” in the Aldergrove Star on September 13, 2012.

As the Chair of the Aldergrove Pool Committee, I am shocked at what I am reading. To find out that the Langley Township has made a “surprise and secret decision to spend a whopping $7.25 million dollars on an expansion of the Langley Events Centre” is beyond belief and shows the disrespect the Township has for Aldergrove.

This committee and town have been repeatedly told that “the Aldergrove Pool Project was a top priority for the Township” and this pool has been promised to this community for years. So why does this new development feel like a slap in the face?

My questions to the Langley Township are: 1. Is the Aldergrove Pool project still a top priority with Langley Township?

2. Is the promised Aldergrove Pool still even in the budget?

3. Was this $7.25 million dollars part of the money allocated for the much needed pool project?

4. Why was this $7.25 million dollars not allocated to fund a more adequate and needed indoor pool facility then in the proposed plans from the Township?

5. Although I believe that an addition to the LEC is a good idea, who decided that this was an ‘emergency’ project that had to go through so quickly?

gley telling us that there is no way to have the promised and much needed Aldergrove Pool and Rec Centre completed by October 2014 (a full two years from now), when the LEC is put through and scheduled to be finished in a short seven months?

7. Why is there a project that is going ahead that is “equivalent to a 10 per cent increase in local taxes” without any input from the taxpayers?

8. Why was this LEC project not brought to the public’s awareness?

9. Why, while the Aldergrove Pool Committee was very public about surveying over 1,200 Aldergrove residents about what they wanted to see for amenities in the new Aldergrove Pool and Rec Centre, we were not aware of any public input regarding the LEC expansion?

Do we trust this council to do what was promised for Aldergrove and put in an indoor pool that services the needs of this community that has been “on the books for over 10 years now”, or are they failing to follow through, full of hollow promises yet once again?

Shame on you, Langley Township council. My husband and I have been watching closely what happens with the Aldergrove Pool. We even went to a one of the last coun-

cil meetings to show our support.

Not once did we hear anything about this Events Centre expansion. We took our kids to tennis lessons in the summer and saw the construction in the parking lot. We Googled and searched to see if we could find out what was going on because we hadn’t seen or heard anything about what was happening. I am completely shocked and appalled that this can happen.

They have already started construction, while the pool in Aldergrove has been stalled for 10 years. The community is suffering because of it, We have been desperate in Aldergrove for our pool and this is what council is focusing on. Shame on them. They should all be thrown out of office.

We need this stopped and the focus put back on the priority of a community in desperate need for a pool and recreation center for the youth’s sake. You wonder why crime is high in Aldergrove, I’ll tell you why — it’s because the youth have nowhere to go and no transit to get them there. It’s not rocket science.

This is so unbelievable and it makes me so angry, How dare the council approve this? Had it been brought to the public’s attention and voted on, I strongly believe the Aldergrove Pool could have starting construction yesterday before this joke of an expansion.

This has been put through so fast that it will no doubt have major oversight issues.

Yet we are supposed to be able to fast-track the Aldergrove project without public consultation, and that is fine? Public consultation is underway, and there is still a great deal of debate about what needs to be built in Aldergrove.

I am not perfect, my council mates are not perfect, but I think we all try to act in the best interests of the community. When I disagree with my council mates I assume that it’s an honest and sincere disagreement and don’t try to label them as being bad people, or doing bad things for ulterior motives.

Councillor Richter has said several negative and derogatory things about me, but I am not going to say or even suggest those things about her. I actually think she is a very intelligent person who is probably embarking upon a path that she thinks will better the community. She may be right.

Nevertheless, I would encourage her to stop labelling people whom she disagrees with and instead take a positive approach.

She should instead lay out a platform or direction. If she has a better idea than what we are doing, if we can improve how we can deliver projects and services in a more efficient manner, I am certainly willing to listen. I just hope that she is willing to listen and recognize our Langley Township deserves better.

Brookswood/Fernridge Community Plan Public Consultation Workshop

Temporary Closure of Stadium at McLeod Athletic Park

Development Cost Charge (DCC) Bylaw Update

Notice of Road Closure, Highway Dedication Removal, and Disposal Notice is hereby given of the intention of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Langley, pursuant to Section 40 and 94 of the Community Charter S.B.C. 2003, c. 26, to adopt “Highway Closing and Dedication Removal (Carsen et al) Bylaw 2012 No. 4949.”

Development Cost Charges are fees collected on new developments to pay for the expansion and upgrading of transportation, water, sanitary, and drainage infrastructure, and to purchase and develop new park land to meet the needs of the growing community.

The Township of Langley is updating its Development Cost Charge program and would like interested residents, property owners, and stakeholders to review the proposed changes before the required bylaw is presented to Council for consideration.

Information boards will be available in the lobby, and participants will have the opportunity to provide written comments. Staff will be on hand to respond to questions and comments and a PowerPoint presentation will be shown at 5pm in the Fraser River Presentation Theatre.

Road to be Closed FR AS ER HW Y.

The intent of the Bylaw is to close and remove the dedication of highway of a 584.2 m2 portion of unimproved 44 Avenue at Fraser Highway. The road will then be transferred to Margaret Carson, James Carson, Margaret Hughes, Mary Lowey, Thomas Carson, and Daniel Carson for consolidation with their property at 23400 - 44 Avenue.

In exchange for receiving the closed road, the owners will grant the Township a 1220.85 m2 road dedication from their property for realignment of 44 Avenue.

The portion of road to be closed and transferred is shown on the map above.

Kodiaks snuff Flames in season opener, fall to Steelers

The Aldergrove Kodiaks started out strong and racked up a 4-2 lead in the first two periods over the Grandview Steelers on Sunday night at Burnaby Winter Club, but a flurry of goals in the third took the Steelers to a 5-4 win.

Kodiaks’ Daniel Higgs scored on a power play in the first to open the scoring at 17:38, assisted by Stefan Gonzales and Cole Gastel.

Kodiaks knocked two more in early in the second before the Steelers answered with two of their own.

Scoring for Aldergrove were Jackson Waniek from Gonzales and Ryan Procyshyn at 4:06 and MacLean Hewitt from Darcy Rai at 9:08. The Steelers notched a pair within seconds of each other at 11:01 and 11:22, before Gastel scored the last for the Kodiaks that night at 16:44, assisted

by Rai and Spencer McHaffie.

The Kodiaks dominated the pen-

alty box in the third, however, and it cost them dearly. The Steelers scored twice on power plays to even the score and notched the winning goal at 14:15.

The Kodiaks outshot the Steelers 29-24.

The Aldergrove Kodiaks’ fifth season started out slowly and a bit sloppily in their opening game versus Ridge Meadows Flames, Sept. 12, but the Junior B hockey boys finally found their groove halfway through the second period.

Kodiak Stephen Ryan got a breakaway at 15:59 in the second period, during a penalty kill, and slapped a beauty of a shot past Flames’ keeper Wesley McLeod to open the scoring.

However, Kodiak Darcy Rai’s blunder of a slash and game misconduct a few minutes later cost the team another five minute penalty, which the Flames capitalized on when Matthew Bissett scored on Kodiak keeper Brendan Sharp in the dying

minute of the period.

The Kodiaks killed the rest of the penalty early in the third and at 4:06 Kodiak Ryan Procyshyn notched the team’s second goal, assisted by captain Daniel Higgs and Stephen Ryan.

Flames’ Paul Piluso committed the error of a check to the head, which gave the Kodiaks a five minute advantage at 13:56 and Kodiak Higgs took the game’s third goal 20 seconds later on the power play. Assists were from Procyshyn and Stefan Gonzales, both of whom were also Higgs’ teammates in their minor hockey days at Cloverdale.

The stands were full of supporters, who cheered as the Kodiaks outshot the Flames, 53-30.

Game stars were all Kodiaks: Ryan for first, Higgs for second and Sharp for third.

Kodiaks travel to Abbotsford Pilots on Friday. Sept. 21 and host Port Moody Panthers on Sept. 26, 7:15 p.m. game start..

Seniors earn medals Aldergrove Star

Two senior residents of Aldergrove enjoyed successful performances at the B.C. Seniors Games track and field competition in Burnaby, August 22-25.

Frances Steinfeld in the women’s 70-74 age group achieved three medals. In the 400 M run she earned bronze medal, in the 200 M run another bronze medal, in the discus throw another

bronze medal, and in shot put Stenfeld placed fourth.

Harnek Toor in the men’s 65-69 age group achieved five medals. In the long jump he was awarded a gold medal, in the 4X400M forced walk another gold medal, in the triple jump a silver medal, in the high jump another silver medal, in the shot put a bronze medal, and in the hammer throw he placed fourth.

Abbotsford Junior Curling program’s three competitive teams are holding a three-day fundraiser to raise money for travel to curling events throughout B.C. This starts with the Ford “Drive 4UR Community” and barbecue, Sept. 21, from 12 to 7 p.m. at 2555 McMillan Rd., Abbotsford.

Magnuson Ford is providing vehicles for residents to test drive. Barbecued hotdogs will be available by donation as well as registration for the Learn To Curl program.

With less than a week to go before the opening serve of the inaugural U-23 Pan American Men’s Volleyball Cup, the Langley Events Centre and its partners announce the schedule.

The six-day tournament, which will feature teams from Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Dominica and Canada, will be comprised of a complete round robin over the first five days – with games being played at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

– followed by three playoff games on the sixth and final day of competition.

After the round robin portion of the tournament, each of the six teams will play a playoff game Sept.

The top two teams from the round robin will play in the gold medal game (5 p.m.), the third and fourth place teams will play in the bronze medal game (3 p.m.) and the fifth and sixth place teams will play in the fifth place game (1 p.m.).
