Hear for Yourself!

The Sidney Business Association is looking into new venues to host the Sidney summer market, but isn’t willing yet to discuss where that may be. “Of course we wish to stay where we are. We would lose ground by moving, but you don’t want to leave all your eggs in one basket if that basket is crumbling,” said SBA president Ross Macfarlane. “We’ve made a couple of inquiries, but we aren’t ready to discuss the locations of them yet.” In April, town council terminated the SBA’s contract to run the market, but when the SBA’s lawyer presented potential legal costs to the town, that decision was reversed. On July 4, the town gave the legally required six months’ notice to the SBA of the cancellation of their contract. “At the end of the day we hope there will be some level of comprehension reached [by the Town of Sidney], but until then we want to consider our options,” said Macfarlane. Meanwhile, the Town of Sidney plans to issue a request for proposals from organizations to run a market in the town. reporter@peninsulanewsreview.com
