Summer camps: something for everyone Winter still holds us in its icy grip, but it’s already time to start planning for summer camp. Sleep-away camp is a character-building experience for children who are ready for it. If you want your child to attend camp when it’s convenient for your summer schedule, you’ll need to get busy now and reserve a space early.

Because summer camps are increasingly in demand, take the time to do some research and see what kind of camp will best suit your child. There is a lot to choose from, so you don’t want to end up sending him or her to just any camp simply because it’s one where they still have some places left.

It is essential to take into account the interests of your children in order for them to have an enjoyable and enriching experience. There are conventional camps, which offer a wide range of outdoor activities and group games. Other

camps offer special interest activities, such as specific sports, visual arts, music, cooking, or even the sciences, including astronomy. The length of stay can also vary. Some parents prefer to stick with day camps or short stays so their children won’t get homesick. Others opt to send their children for a week or more to develop their independence.

Children living with a physical or mental disability can also benefit greatly from a stay at a summer camp. Some camps are specifically adapted to meet such needs and have qualified personnel trained to care for them 24 hours a day.

Sciences take up only a very small part of school curriculums, so young science fans are ecstatic when they are given the chance during their summer vacations to deepen their knowledge, carry out experiments, and see a whole new world of discovery opening up before their eyes.

Many specialized science camps now exist and offer a wide range of activities connected to this fascinating subject. Workshops, demonstrations, group activities, and experiments are always on the menu. A Zen garden Zen gardens originated in China and were designed as places for Buddhist monks to pray. They welcomed the devout into outdoor areas where nature had been stripped down to the bare essentials, in a reflection of their spiritual beliefs. Later, the Japanese developed their own outdoor areas in the form of meditation gardens. These influenced today’s Zen style with its minimalist approach and a pared down layout where repetition of design and plant species are favoured over diversity.

If you would like to create your very own Zen garden, be sure to choose small trees with white blossoms — white is a highly symbolic color for the Japanese. Opt for magnolias or apple trees, which will also exude unforgettable fragrances. White azaleas are also perfect for this type of garden, along with dwarf pines, ferns, grasses, and hostas.

Green lawns are not normally part of Zen gardens. Ground cover that creeps around stones is preferred, such as thyme, white violets, or periwinkle. Wood or bamboo furniture is perfect, accompanied by orientalstyle screens or delicate archways. Stone lanterns and Japanese style pots compliment the arrangements. Another must in a Zen garden is a discreet water feature, even just a rock with a small hollow in the middle would be ideal. After all, the secret to Zen garden success is moderation.

Zen gardens require little maintenance work and are great for small areas, as they are made up almost entirely of stones, pebbles, and plants in repeating patterns. Now, close your eyes and visualize a wooden bridge over a stream of white pebbles and a bed of creeping thyme.

What a soothing place to relax and catch up with yourself!

Keep in mind contemplative serenity when creating your Zen garden.

To seed or not to seed, that is the question

Summer Lawn Care: (NC)—Depending on your patience, perseverance and budget, the choice of whether to seed your lawn or sod is really up to you.

Sodding is fast, convenient and fairly easy to do. Simply buy the sod, cut away any dead or damaged grass, rake the soil and add some fertilizer to it. Once the site is ready, simply lay down the sod and tromp it with your feet or a roller. But sod is more expensive than grass seed and requires daily watering.

Seeding, on the other hand, is inexpensive, but it requires a bit more preparation and the watering regime lasts longer. If you choose this route, make sure you buy the right kind of seed for your area (your local garden centre can help). Although spring planting is good for vegetables and ornamentals, seeding your grass is best done in late summer or early fall.

Whether you sod or seed, you can grow a healthy lawn without needing pesticides to keep your new blanket of green looking beautiful.

Also, the dealership will have the proper tools to fix, repair, or maintain your vehicle, not to mention that they are more likely to have on hand the replacement parts for your vehicle.

In the event of a major problem, a dealer will be able to find you a replacement vehicle, sometimes at a very reasonable price. For short-term needs, such as one day, they will likely be able to provide you a courtesy car or a shuttle bus service.
