POLICE BEAT
Didn’t do it Local man is sick and tired of being harassed and he wants it to stop NEIL HORNER news@pqbnews.com
Tony Wilde has never run a chop shop and he has never robbed a bank machine. Nor has he done stunts on a motorcycle or been part of a biker gang. The Qualicum Beach resident wants the community to know that, because someone — or possibly several people — appear to think that he has. Wilde, who suffered a serious stroke in 2006 and has been on disability ever since, has no problem with people thinking whatever they want, but he would really appreciate it if they would stop calling the police about it. Town taxes go up Council still seeking savings STEVEN HEYWOOD editor@pqbnews.com
Taxes will go up 2.5 per cent in the town of Qualicum Beach this year. After town council earlier this month asked staff to explore the impacts of a zero tax increase, they voted on April 16 to maintain the planned tax hike. See TOWN STAFF, page A6

ONE AMAZING VOLUNTEER: Joan LeMoine was shocked to tears when she was presented with a community volunteer honour by Rudi Widdershoven and the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce. Joan can be seen almost everywhere in the community at many, many events. She truly is a local ambassador.
