A LITTLE CO-OP HISTORY The Otter District Farmer’s Institute was incorporated in 1922 with twenty-five members in order to promote agriculture and agricultural knowledge, to work for farm legislation to improve farm conditions and to buy supplies at cost for its Members. One of the original bylaws said the aim of the Institute was to improve conditions of rural life so that settlement may

be permanent and prosperous. This bylaw and many others remained in effect until June 22, 1979 when we officially became a co-op. It was the 1930’s when we started supplying feed to the local farmer. During the 1950’s a need developed to supply local residents with petroleum products. We now have a modern Bulk Plant which supplies petroleum products to farms and heating fuels to homes in the area. We now have

We have been in the Retail business since the 1930’s running a general store and finally in the 1940’s a small retail facility to our now 50,000 sq ft store, selling groceries, hardware, drygoods and pharmacy. In 2009 we amalgamated with Consumers Co-op in Pitt Meadows. In 2011 we were very excited to be able to open a Produce Store and a Pharmacy

in Glen Mountain, Abbotsford. Our organization is a member owned business with an elected nine person Board of Directors. Your Co-op strives to meet the needs of its members and the community it services while providing an economic benefit by way of patronage dividends. We provide a one stop shopping service for all Farm & Home requirements and we are proud of celebrating 90 Years in the Community.

Scholarships If you are a grade twelve student and your family has spent at least $2000 in the prior year, you are eligible to apply for one of (five) $1000 scholarships offered by Otter Co-op. We also have (one) $1000 scholarship available for a mature student (an individual that has been out of high school for at least one year) with the same qualifications. Applications are available at the Administration Office or on our website www.ottercoop.com. Deadline for applications is April 30, 2012 6:00 pm.
