WHY GOOD COURSES GET CANCELLED Nothing ends a good course faster than everyone leaving it to the last minute to register. There is a point when the program staff check (usually one week prior to start date) the class registration.

If there are not enough people registered, the class has to be cancelled. So, please register early!

CLASS SIZE Safety, quality and cost are the prime considerations when determining class size.

HOLIDAYS Programs will NOT be held on statutory holidays unless indicated otherwise.

Play is important work for 3 to 5 year olds! It is an opportunity to discover and explore a wide variety of new experiences. This program will develop your child’s imagination, foster individuality and promote a sense of achievement. Youngsters will participate in games, songs, stories, arts and crafts within a positive social play environment! Standard First Aid and CPR will teach you all the CPR and choking procedures (adult, child, infant, and 2-rescuer), heart attacks, strokes, AED intro, as well as topics such as bleeding, shock, fainting, poisoning, epilepsy, diabetic emergencies, allergic reactions, burn accidents, heat and cold emergencies, head and neck injuries, and musculoskeletal injuries.

The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion Award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defense and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types.

Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim.

Park Bench/Picnic Table/Tree Dedication Program The Summerland Parks and Recreation Department’s Donation Program provides a means for individuals and organizations to donate funds to enhance our parks system. At this time park benches, picnic tables and trees are available.

Donations to Canadian Municipalities are tax deductible and income tax letters are issued for all donations. It should be understood that donations to the District of Summerland in no way constitutes ownership of the item, the land upon which it is situated, or surrounding lands. All items donated become the property of the District of Summerland and receive an appropriate standard of maintenance.

The location for benches, picnic tables or trees are decided in consultation with the Parks and Recreation Staff. Once a donation and location have been approved, installation will be done within a 12-week period, depending on the item purchased and the time of year. The donor will automatically be notified after an item has been installed.

The Summerland Centennial Trail • A 4.5 kilometre loop • Trail head located near the top of Peach Orchard Road, just below the highway underpass • Trails along Eneas and Prairie Creek • Historical points of interest and lake views • Signage and park benches • Summerland Kinsmen & K40 Club, Summerland Rotary Club and Summerland Kiwanis Club all assisted with upgrading of trail areas • Summerland Environmental Science group and volunteers planted native plants along Eneas Creek

PARKS AND TRAILS Summerland Trans Canada Trail

The Summerland Trans Canada Trail includes a dedicated 3.8 km walkway at the base of Conkle Mountain that goes from Fyffe Road to the Rodeo Grounds. The trail also continues out of Summerland for 6 km to Faulder and another 36.7 km to just east of Osprey Lake. Recent upgrades to the trail include 4 bridges and in 2010, a total of 18 kilometers have been resurfaced, which is over ½ the distance to Osprey Lake. Trail resurfacing will continue and fundraising is still ongoing to upgrade the trails. CANADIAN BOAT OPERATORS COURSE
