The sale will be held at Locust Level Farm (GPS 12065 Chatham Rd, Vernon Hill, VA). See map and directions on the back cover. After such a blessed grass season here locally, we are excited to share our offering of bulls and females with friends and new acquaintances. The sale should provide opportunity for all in the cattle business, and we look forward to the fellowship. This year the coming two-year old bulls are back. We heard what you said last year. Not only are they back, but the quality and quantity are increased. These older bulls are ready to breed a lot of cows. Their numbers and kind are exceptional. Our bull to heifer ratio was smaller in 2013 than we ever remember. Therefore, there are fewer of the yearling bulls for sale. The quality shows these are bulls to grow the pounds to capitalize on today’s “by the pound record” calf prices. None of the bulls have been sold prior to the sale date. Notice the increased number of females selling this year. When you come, you will see the quality is also greatly improved. The industry needs more cows producing calves. I have, as mentioned above, been blessed with more females than bulls in recent calf crops. Most of these females will already be nursing calves. Since plans did not develop for the Southside Angus Female Sale, this is another reason to offer local cattlemen more females at this time. Also, you will be especially pleased to see a nice offering of Shelton Angus females at the sale. Buddy Shelton, who always consigned high quality young females at the Southside Sale, is bringing that special group here for sale. What blessings we have individually and as an industry! Give thanks and not just for the cattle. The world is filled with many evil and fearful things. Yet we can be assured that both sun and rain come down on the just as well as the unjust.
