CONTEXT: THE BRAZILIAN FOREST CODE The Brazilian law determines that all rural owners must preserve the native vegetation in 20% - 35% - 80 % OF THEIR LANDS – these areas are called LEGAL RESERVES (RL) and PERMANENT PROTECTION AREAS (APP).

BIODIVERSITY CORRIDORS: MOSAIC OF RESTORED AREAS CONNECTING POCKETS OF PRISTINE NATIVE VEGETATION ALONG THE RIVER BASINS

FIRE PREVENTION

In cooperation with local seed collectors, specific seeds are collected.

Equalizing the land and removing rocks/stones/ trunks.

Fences to protect our growing trees where they are vulnerable to cattle.

Our restoration sites are dispersed in remote areas with long distances in between.

Restoration, with love and care: on average 1,667 trees per hectare, planted by hand by our local team.

The first 3 years we must grow our seedlings in the right mix and remove invasive species.

Monitoring growth to make sure a self-sustaining ecosystem will come back.

We make sure that natural barriers and fire lookouts are created.

We build, develop and operate our own tree nurseries to grow local tree species.

BJF selected among 10 Mega-Eco projects in the world

In October 2023, BJF was invited by the university of Pennsylvania to present our mission to realize the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor among the 10 Mega-Eco Projects in the world.

BJF nominated for the Earthshot Prize (2024) Launched by HRH Prince William, the The Earthshot Prize exists to discover, spotlight and help grow innovative solutions that are working to restore and regenerate our planet.

BJF was officially nominated in January ’24 for the Earthshot Prize 2024 by Restor.eco

In 2022 we signed a € 4M partnership with CAIXA Social Environmental Fund (FSA) to support 70% of the funding for planting of 1 million trees in the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor! Caixa Econômica Federal, referred to in Brazil as CAIXA, is one of the two federal banks in Brazil and the fourth largest financial institute in Latin America.

Article in FEED magazine about BJF & DH partnership and positive role of farmers in Brazil and beyond.

Field Challenges and Exciting Future Developments Field Challenges •

Logistics challenge: operating 17+ farmer sites simultaneously.

Change in the agro scenario: unexpected come-back of cows at farms, hence increase in costs / fences.

• •

Restoration infrastructure: BJF is building this new economic model from scratch in South Pará and Tocantins. Inflation and demand: Drastic increase of costs in the past years - from € 4 (2020) to € 8 per tree (2024) for all 17 Steps of Restoration.

Future Developments •

Thanks part to the support of our sponsor partners, BJF is building its reputation as one of the leading restoration organizations in Brazil!

BJF is expanding now from 2 to 7 municipalities!

BJF Impact Projects are making real positive impacts (Biodiversity – Social – Economic )

With your support, ready to scale up our model of making impacts and setting an example to revive other dying drying rivers.
