Alien vs Predator

The second movie in the Purge franchise The Purge: Anarchy directed by James DeMonaco follows a vengeful police sergeant (Frank Grillo), a mother (Carmen Ejogo) and daughter (Zoe Soul), and a couple on the brink of divorce (Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez) as they try to survive the purge; a night where all crime is legal. The Purge: Anarchy is a huge shift from the first film in the franchise, as it asks the question of what lower income black and brown communities are expected to do during the holiday. It raises the idea of rich white politicians using the purge as a night to kidnap poor black and brown people and kill them for sport, as well as systematically killing off the people in these communities to keep their voting numbers low. While the Purge is a fictional dystopian storyline, its commentary on race relations in politics is eery in the way that it just feels so realistic. Leading character Cali (Zoe Soul) throughout the film constantly brings up the systemic oppression and execution of black and brown citizens at the hand of the white elite, even bringing to light an anti-Purge resistance group lead by a man named Carmelo Johns (Michael Kenneth Williams) that is pretty much a one to one version of the Black Panther Party. While at first glance the Purge movies may seem like just your average unrealistic gore shock horror film, The Purge: Anarchy truly cemented the fact that the Purge franchise is repeated social commentary on how much white politicians can get away with corruption and racism that quite literally kills black and brown communities.
