www.BlackhawkLivingCA.com

When it comes to Fourth of July Celebrations, there is no need to leave the gates to see the best fireworks in town and celebrate America’s independence in style. The Blackhawk Country Club’s annual Fireworks Extravaganza is one of my family’s favorite events in the community. We love seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces as they go on the carnival rides and visit with friends, but our favorite part is cuddling up on a blanket to watch the spectacular show in the sky after dark. Our community Independence Day Celebration is just one of the many ways to show your patriotism and celebrate America’s independence. Be sure to check out our community calendar for other Fourth of July activities. We are devoted to sharing stories, events and news among our neighbors in this wonderful community. If you have a story, event or news to share please email me at mscott@ bestversionmedia.com. Wishing your family a very happy Fourth of July Holiday! Warmly,

Meet the Fernandes Family: A Passion for Music By Megan Scott, Resident since 2010

A

lamo Safeway holds a special place in the Fernandes’s hearts because it’s where Lilia and Michael first bumped into each other 14 years ago. Michael says he feels as though something pushed him into Lilia that day, “When I first saw her at Safeway I knew there was something special about her and I needed to say hello. It almost felt like someone was pushing me to go up to her and I am so glad I did.”

provides services to Starbucks and other companies. Good coffee is like fine scotch. It has to touch the tongue easy (low acidity) and have layers as it goes down to know you have something special. l fell in love with Trimani coffee because of these special properties it carries. Trimani means three hands: the farmer, the roaster and the barista. All must be perfect; only then can you have the best possible coffee.”

Lilia says it was Michael’s kindness that made her fall in love with him. “I knew Michael was the one because of his selfless, generous and sensitive personality. He always puts everyone else’s needs before his own and will do anything to make his friends and family happy.” The couple married in 2008 at the Roundhill Country Club.

Lilia was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan and lived in Greece before her parents immigrated to the US when she was 13-years-old. Within a short time, Lilia says her family settled in Pleasanton, and everyone got busy pursuing their dreams. “Moving to this country provided opportunities for the whole family that they never had as immigrants in any other country. My siblings and I had access to an incredible education and world-class music teachers and coaches. My parents opened their own businesses and began their pursuit of the American dream.”

Michael is a Bay Area local. He was born in Walnut Creek and raised in Livermore. Growing up, he says he always wanted to be a firefighter, but a college job working for Starbucks sent him on a very different path, “While working at Starbucks I was offered a job servicing espresso equipment. I ended up realizing that I really enjoy working in the coffee industry and opened my own company - ABCEE, LLC - which imports European coffee beans and espresso equipment, and

A Danville business owner, Lilia owns a law practice in the downtown area called Bulgucheva Law, p.c. The practice focuses primarily on real estate and business litigation matters. Lilia says the most rewarding part of her work comes with helping others.

“Occasionally, I will take on a case against local cities and their police departments when someone’s constitutional rights have been violated. The most rewarding part of my work is the ability to help those who have been harmed or wronged and get them the compensation that they deserve.” When Lilia decided to open her own law practice in 2017, she quickly realized that Danville was the perfect location. It provided a gorgeous and quiet setting so she could focus on her work, yet it also has a beautiful downtown area, which is full of great restaurants and shops. Music is Lilia’s other passion as she is a classically trained pianist and a soprano, with performances spanning from the Bay Area to Rome, Italy. “Music has always been an important part of my life. It provided stability when I first came to America and was something I could always do in order to feel grounded and focused. Nothing can ever compare to singing opera to an appreciative audience. You open your heart and soul to the public, which makes you extremely vulnerable. But it is all worth it when you are able to interpret the divine music the way the composer had intended,” says Lilia. The Fernandes family includes two vivacious JULY 2019

children, 7-year-old Daniel and 4-year-old Angelica. Daniel is an amazing athlete. He enjoys playing tennis and swims for the Blackhawk HOX. He also plays piano. Angelina has been dancing ballet since she was 2-years-old. She loves participating in dance recitals, singing with her mom and playing the violin. Several pets complete the household including Riki, a

12-year-old toy poodle, Emily, a 6-yearold cat, Drogo, a bearded dragon, Koda, a 19-year-old Painted horse and the newest addition, Rainbow, a Cangue bird. Michael and Lilia say they always wanted to live in Blackhawk because of the strong sense of community and great local schools. “We wanted to live by the golf course and were lucky to find a home right behind the Lakeside Country Club in 2016. Although we do not play golf, seeing the golf course

every morning from our bedroom balcony is a daily reminder of how blessed we are to live in this wonderful community. Our favorite part about living in Blackhawk is a sense of community. You feel so much love and support from your neighbors and friends. In addition, the residents of Blackhawk are inspiring to us because everyone finds time to care for others in need, despite their own hectic lives,” says Lilia.

On the Move By Linda Kralik, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services/ Drysdale Properties, Resident since 1984

A

s I began to write this article about moving, I thought about all of the moves I have made since moving into Blackhawk thirty four years ago. The last recorded move brought the count up to 15 times. Yes, I have moved 15 times within the span of years since moving to Blackhawk in 1984. The math on that makes it about once every 2 years. And one time, I actually moved twice in one year due to a gas leak in the rental home we had leased while building one of four customs! Actually, moving these many times did have some advantages. It forced me to really take stock in what I owned and evaluate the importance and cost of keeping it either in storage or stowed in a garage. As I began my Real Estate career in 1987 the realization that the years of moving gave me great insight for my clients. They have benefited from my experience in the preparation, timing, evaluation, and necessities of moving. Whether you are moving out or moving in, here are some helpful tips to make Moving Day run smoother. TIMING: Consider the day of your move. Is it on garbage pickup day? Is it near a holiday? Where is the delivery? When truck arrives? (review one and two above)

Make certain you are not in conflict with garbage pick-up day when all the waste bins are lining the curbs making it impossible for the moving van to park along side of the home. Also, be aware of the length of the truck and warn your neighbors of any impeding blockage of driveways, etc. Contact the HOA, if there is one, in case of any restriction over holiday weekends. And do the same procedures for where the delivery of your moving van is going. EVALUATION: In getting ready for the move, take the time to evaluate what you want to move. Why pay the moving fee for something you have no intention of every using again? Or those boxes of your children’s goods that they never claimed. Give kids an ultimatum: “ Please come get your keepsakes and goods by (a certain date) or they will be donated to someone or a charitable cause who can use them.” Then do it! And be as ruthless with your own keepsakes, because it is a sure bet that keeping them for your kids will not be wise. Most times the “kids” do not want the things anyway. If there has been an expressed interest, that is something else, but in general the next generation has enough of their own keepsake and treasures without burdening them with yours. PREPARATION: Be ready! If you have packed your own boxes, have them marked appropriately and on more than one side of the box. Remember, the movers do not know what might appear obvious to you. A well-marked box will arrive in the right room for unpacking. For arrival at the new destination, have the rooms well delineated so movers can identify which box to which room. A box marked MISC. has no home. NECESSITIES: KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON! Be flexible. You will be called in many directions during the actual move, so be ready to multi-task. Have several extra moving boxes and your box strapper and black marking pen in a handy place. Keep out some rags and cleaner spray for any last minute cleaning. Make sure you have lots of bottled water handy for you and for the crew, everyone needs to stay well hydrated. And take time out for lunch. And most importantly, know where your car keys are so that they are not stuffed in some last minute box by mistake. That’s it. Hope these handy moving hints make your next move smoother. LK

Golf Destinations

Golf Destination: Pronghorn Lava Rock and Ghost Trees in Bend, Oregon By Chuck Fox, Owner, Quintessential Golf, Resident since 2012

P

ronghorn Golf Resort has developed into central Oregon’s most impressive golf destination resort. With majestic views of the Cascade Mountains, they carve two outstanding bentgrass golf courses from lava formations, juniper trees, and high desert terrain. Yes, it’s on the east side of the Cascades in the high desert. Only eleven inches of rain fall per year contrasted with thirty-six inches in Portland. Surrounded by Bureau of Land Management property between Redmond and Bend, Pronghorn Golf Resort is secluded and tranquil. They get the name from the antelope-like hoofed species which make their home on the property. A striking 55,000 square-foot stone clubhouse anchors the resort. From junior suites to four-bedroom Mediterranean-style villas, the accommodations are first-class. The new Huntington Lodge expands accommodation options to serve the increased demand. Tremendous practice facilities include a large and perfectly conditioned range. The short game area is one of the best we’ve seen. With a variety of greens and bunker configurations shots as long as 60 yards from rough, fairway and bunkers are possible. Pronghorn Resort is the only golf community in the West that features side-by-side Tom Fazio and Jack Nicklaus golf courses. As a premier semi-private club, the Fazio course is available only to members. However, the impressive Jack Nicklaus course is open to the public. Achieving National acclaim Golf Magazine’s 2016/17 public course ranking places the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course #38 in the nation. The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Pronghorn Golf Resort offers, from every hole, generous views of the Cascades. It’s difficult to overstate the quality of the golf course conditioning. They maintain bentgrass on tees, fairways, and greens to the highest standards. Member services are at the private club level. The Nicklaus course is super fun to play. A traditional style desert course, the mix of holes is refreshing and memorable. We love risk/reward of the short Par4s. Nicklaus included three at Hole #4, #12 and #13 adding to the fun. The Par4 Hole #12 is only 280 yards from the middle teeing ground providing many options for the tee shot. A plateaued green requires precision for the approach shot. Our favorite hole is the short Par4 Hole #13, only 330 yards from the tee around a lake the entire right side. An approach to a green surrounded by bunkering with a large rock outcropping behind. Anchored by the signature Hole #15, the Par5’s are scenic and fun. Amid the largest stand of Juniper trees in the world. Ghost trees abound, some in perilous positions.

Majestic views of snowcapped Cascade mountains

Central Oregon is a top 50 golf destination in the world according to Golf Digest. The warm, dry weather from May to October is perfect for golf. With twenty-six courses near Bend (population 90,000), it’s a golfer’s paradise. Beyond Pronghorn, there are three other major golf resorts are nearby; Sunriver, Black Butte, and Tetherow. Besides the superb golf, you’ll find excellent hiking, kayaking, whitewater rafting, fishing, and restaurants.

Grateful For Capitalism By Joe Morgan, CFP®, CFA, Principal: JWM Wealth Management, LLC, Resident since 2004

B

efore capitalism, the world knew only one way to live together: follow someone who became a leader either through feats of strength, lineage, or some other unrelated factor, and depend on him (mostly “hims”) to lead you well.

925-244-1700

But in any case, follow. The key to a growing and well-functioning economy is to optimize the allocation of resources. Some systems try to do this “intelligently” through great study and decision-making at the top. Those systems don’t work. Capitalism allocates capital based on the individual working in their own best self-interest. This way, when transactions occur they, by definition, benefit both parties, creating an improved situation for everyone. Of course, there are bad actors in capitalism as with any other system, so it is left to government (in whatever form) to prevent these bad actors from creating transactions out of deceit. Honest dealings drive capitalism. Want proof that capitalism has driven growth?

From the year 0 to 1820, it is estimated that global GDP grew about 0.1% per year. Since then, driven by all the aspects of capitalism, GDP has grown about 2% per year, or 20 times as fast (according to a recent book by Alan Greenspan and Adrian Wooldridge titled Capitalism in America). Reasons to Choose an Orthodontic Specialist to Straighten Your Teeth By Richard Anthony, DDS MS, Blackhawk Orthodontics

T

he history of orthodontic treatment has been intimately linked with the history of dentistry for more that 2000 years. Archaeologists have discovered mummified ancients with metal bands wrapped around individual teeth. In the modern era of dentistry--up until the last couple of decades—the orthodontic specialist was the exclusive provider of treatment to straighten your teeth. Now, with the advent of “glue-on” braces and prefabricated computer fabricated clear removable aligners, many nonorthodontists are now offering orthodontic treatment options. You now even find internet videos and websites which encourage people to try to straighten your own teeth. The American Association of Orthodontists is urging consumers to be wary of any suggestions to move teeth with rubber bands, dental floss, or other objects ordered on the internet. I have also recently viewed internet videos that provide information to render “do-it-yourself” orthodontic treatment by providing instructions to fabricate crude plastic aligners from plaster cast in your own home.

Orthodontics is one of the oldest specialty fields in dentistry. An orthodontic specialist completes three or four years of pre-dental university education, followed by four years of dental school, and then an additional two or three years of advanced training and practice in a university or clinical setting. General dental education does include some basic orthodontic information, however the additional two to three years of specialty training provides a basis for rendering the best orthodontic health care according the latest scientific principles and time-tested clinical practice. There are a lot of treatment options these days, from retainers to clear aligners to tooth-colored, metal, and micro-braces. Orthodontists have the specialized knowledge to consider all possibilities, based on variables like your age, possible jaw imbalances, differences in the size of your teeth, and more. They know what to use and when to use it, and will work with your to make the best decision—for your best smile.

Pebble Beach:

2019 US Open Father’s Day By Mike L. McColgan, Resident since 1990

F

ather’s Day is a special day for many and extra special for my wife Linda and Hall of Fame son MJ. In 2008 at Torrey Pines, MJ Won the Golf Channel’s essay contest. The essay had to be 200 words or less, and MJ’s was selected from over 25,000 submitted. The prize included $10,000 of golf equipment and prizes and being the guest of the Golf Channel for a week at the 2008 US Open. The week was highlighted with an appearance on National TV on Father’s Day. This year the USGA invited MJ to Pebble Beach on Father’s Day for the 2019 US Open. It was extra special as this was the 100th birthday of famous Pebble Beach. The USGA did an inspiring film of MJ’s many accomplishments during the 2018 US Amateur held at Pebble Beach.

Each year we think about these experiences and share this great essay with our friends and family. Enjoy MJ’s winning 2008 US Open Golf Channel’s Father’s Day essay.

I have been playing golf with my dad since I was 5 years old. Having been born with a walking disability, he taught me to always focus on my abilities and not my disability. As a result, I have won seven straight Northern California State Championships, three National Championships, and have been inducted into 2 Halls of Fame 2004 San Francisco And 2006 Michigan having been born there. He taught me golf like life is a hard game. But, with a positive attitude, proper instructions, practice and a will to win anything can and will happen. In a round of golf, never, never give up. He also said enjoy the beauty and the many friends you meet in this game. He often told me you can go out as a single player and meet 3 strangers on the first tee and by the end of the round be friends for life. Finally, he told me to never get nervous on the first tee. Like life getting off to a good start is very important.

Recipe

Salmon Fillet By Parisa Z. Ambwani, Resident since 1983

Serves 4-5 Preparation Time: 30 minutes Preheat oven to 350-degree F. • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

1 white onion (see Note 1) ¼ cup olive oil 1-pound salmon fillet, boned, skinned, and cut into 1-inch cubes 6 slices whole-wheat bread (not toasted) cut into 1-inch cubes 2 eggs 10 cloves garlic, cleaned and sliced 4 inches ginger root, skinned and chopped ¼ teaspoon sea salt (or to taste) 2 dashes black pepper 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 small bunch dill (see Note 2) ¾ cup flour A few lettuce green leaves, cleaned, dried Garnish: With tomato and lemon

Reserve the onion and olive oil. Place all other ingredients in a food processor and blend for 1 minute. Add the onion, and blend for another 30 seconds. Remove the mixture and place in a bowl. Sprinkle a wooden board with flour. Spoon out a glob of mixture the size of a lemon and make it into a flat round patty of about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Lay it on the board. Continue making similar patties until all the mixture is gone. (See Note 3 for an alternative method to create uniform patties.) Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the salmon fillets for approximately 4 minutes on each side, and then arrange in a 9” x 5” x 3” baking dish. Cover with heavy aluminum foil and leave in the middle rack of a hot oven. Cook for another 10 minutes. Serve on top of green lettuce. Garnish with tomato and lemon. This dish is excellent served with pickle/relish as main dish or appetizer. NOTES: Note 1. If the onion is too juicy, squeeze it, throw out the juice, and use the rest of the onion. Note 2. Fresh dill is preferable, washed, dried, and chopped. If fresh dill is not available, use 1 tablespoon dry dill. Note 3. To make uniform patties, place a layer of wax paper on top of a medium-size wooden board to keep the board clean. Dust the wax paper with flour. Place a salmon fillet loaf on the

paper, dust with flour, and cover again with wax paper. Place a small, thin board on top of the salmon fillet. Press gently on top from side to side to make the loaf flat and even. Remove the board and the wax paper. Dust the edges of a circle tool (the size of a small glass) and use this to cut circles of salmon fillet. - - - - © 2017 Parisa Ambwani ----- All rights reserved www.enlightenedrecipes.com

What is Gum Disease and

How do I know if I have It? By Linda Porteous RDH, Larry Porteous Family Dentistry, Resident since 1988

G

um disease is swelling, redness, bleeding and soreness of the gums around your teeth. It is caused by the bacteria in plaque, the sticky, colorless film that forms on teeth daily. These plaque bacteria have toxins that irritate and inflame the gums. If this plaque is not removed throughly each day by proper brushing and flossing, it will build-up and infect the gums and bone that support teeth. The signs of gum disease are not always evident and often painless. Seeing your dentist regularly is important to check for any symptoms of gum disease. If caught early, gum disease is easier to treat and reversible. There are three stages of gum disease: The first stage of gum disease is called Gingivitis. Gums may bleed when brushing and flossing and be tender. Gingivitis can be reversed with regular cleanings at your dental office and with proper brushing and flossing at home.

Pest Control

Periodontitis occurs if gingivitis is left untreated. Plaque bacteria spreads below the gum line on the tooth root surfaces causing an infection which damages the bone and supporting tissues that hold teeth in place. Pockets develop around the teeth making cleaning now more difficult. This stage of gum disease can be treated effectively by your dentist or Periodontist followed by careful home care and regular dental visits.

Weed Control Tree Service

Advanced Periodontitis is the final stage of gum disease. The bone and supporting tissues around the teeth are destroyed, resulting in tooth shifting or loosening which affects your bite. If periodontal treatment can not save the teeth, tooth loss is the result. The good news is Gingivitis and Periodontitis are preventable. Having regular dental visits to discover and treat early gum disease is important before the disease process leads to more serious problems and eventual tooth loss. Visit your dentist and brush and floss daily to keep your teeth and smile for life.

Community Safety

What is Your Role? By Aaron “Wally” Barger, Resident since 2012

I

f you live in Blackhawk, you are most likely a member of a Homeowners’ Association as well as a proud homeowner. For a few people, I mean a very few, this means that you take an active role in issues affecting your HOA. Most of us, however, either take a limited role or almost none at all. Homeowners’ Associations are a lot like professional sports, that is, you are either a “participant” or a “spectator”. The difference between an HOA and watching a baseball game is that as a property owner you have financial interest in your home as well in the quality and effectiveness of your HOA. For us, who live in the Blackhawk area, the quality of life we enjoy is one of the main reasons that we moved here. It is for this reason that we want to maintain our standard of living for as long as we live in this community. As stakeholders in the HOA, we have certain obligations to our neighbors, the HOA Board of Directors, and staff. They, in turn, assume a number of obligations to us, as well. As a homeowner in an HOA, we agree to follow the organization’s standards and regulations. But, what does all this have to do with whether we are a participant or a spectator? Well, if you decide to be a spectator and only get involved in things that directly affect you or your property, then you have elected to let others handle issues in your community. Further, if you do not know what actions or inactions the Board, its’ staff, or its’ committees have taken, you are “out of the loop” and, most likely, unable to influence or correct the problems. Fortunately, the HOA’s in the Blackhawk area are well managed with seasoned board members. However, most of us do not participate enough in board, committee, or staff actions or

decisions. By not attending board meetings or committee meetings, we miss the opportunity to learn about the community leaders who make the decisions that affect our lives and our property values. I recommend that you attend a board meeting, or a committee meeting, or log on to the HOA’s website to learn the date and time and agenda of meetings. Better yet, talk with a board member, a committee member, a staff member, or one of our local service area’s police officers. You can contact the Blackhawk Police at (925) 646-2441 or 736-1018. They are a very valuable law enforcement resource in our community. Following these suggestions will make you a better-informed resident. The bottom line . . . be an active participant by getting involved or, at least, be an active spectator in your HOA. If you have any questions or comments, please email me at aaron.barger@yahoo. com.

Rattlesnake Safety in the Regional Parks By Jen Vanya, East Bay Regional Park District

A

s the weather heats up, rattlesnakes become more active in many of our parks, their natural habitat. They like to explore when the weather gets, warm which can lead to more encounters with humans and dogs. The East Bay Regional Park District is advising that the public take snake safety precautions when visiting Regional Parks.

Safety Tips for Visiting Regional Parks

1. Always hike with a friend so you can help each other in case of emergency. 2. Look at the ground ahead of you as you are walking. 3. Look carefully around and under logs and rocks before sitting down. 4. Avoid placing your hands or feet where you can’t see clearly. 5. Check the area around picnic tables, campsites, and barbecues before using them. If you encounter a rattlesnake in these areas, notify park staff. 6. Keep pets on the designated trails and away from snakes if they see one.

7. Bring plenty of water for yourself and your pets as many parks do not have a direct water supply.

What to Do If You See a Rattlesnake

Leave it alone - do not try to capture or harm it. All park wildlife is protected by law. If you see a snake on a trail, wait for it to cross and do not approach. Then move carefully and slowly away.

What to Do If Bitten by a Snake

1. If bitten by a rattlesnake, stay calm and send someone to call 911. Remain calm by lying down with the affected limb lower than the heart. Do not waste precious time on tourniquets, “sucking,” or snake bite kits. If you are by yourself, walk calmly to the nearest source of help to dial 911. Do not run. 2. If bitten by any other kind of snake, wash the wound with soap and water or an antiseptic and seek medical attention. 3. If you are not sure what kind of snake bit you, check the bite for two puncture marks (in rare cases one puncture mark) associated with intense, burning pain. This is typical of a rattle snake bite. Other snakebites may leave multiple teeth marks without associated burning pain. Snakes are an important resource in the natural environment. They are prime controlling agents of rodent, insect, and other reptile populations. They must be enjoyed from afar and left where they are found. It is illegal to collect, kill, or remove any plants or animals from the East Bay Regional Park District. Please help us to protect wildlife and their environment for present and future generations. Padis Brings the Promise of Forever to Walnut Creek By Steve Padis, Steve Padis Jewelry, Resident since 1989

P

adis Jewelry began 2019 with a number of exciting changes – beginning with relocation from the Jewelry Center at 101 Utah Street to an additional location at the Gift Center at 888 Brannan. Now, at the new locations, clients can experience the Bay Area and Northern California’s largest collection of loose diamonds, engagement rings and fine jewelry all under one roof. Padis also celebrates a new location in the Bay Area East Bay – an area most of the Padis team calls home – a beautiful Forevermark store located in Broadway Plaza Shopping Center in Walnut Creek. We look forward to welcoming you there for Summer 2019! This Padis store will be devoted to Forevermark diamonds - a diamond distinctive for many reasons. Perhaps the most unique aspect of a Forevermark diamond is its unalterable inscription, located inside the heart of diamond itself – a true mark of integrity. These diamonds come with a promise: every single diamond is responsibly sourced, as well as beautiful and rare. High Standards for Mining Sources Less than 1% of the world’s diamonds have the qualities to become a Forevermark diamond. Diamonds are a natural product of our planet, and it all starts with the mine of origin. To uncover these precious diamonds, Forevermark, as part of De Beers, carefully selects mines based on strict business, social and environmental standards. While most “conflict-free” diamond sources can cite Kimberley Process membership (an international trade standard to prevent “conflict diamonds” from entering the market), Forevermark goes beyond the Kimberley Process by supporting the advancement of communities and protecting the natural world, the ultimate source of diamonds.

In short, a Forevermark by Padis diamond is a diamond you can wear proudly. Our Commitment to You, Our Neighbors and Family Padis Jewelry has an extensive selection of Forevermark fine jewelry for you to experience and try on and we look forward to welcoming you to any of our five locations. We aim to create an experience that allows all who visit our stores to enter as shopping individuals, and to leave as members of the Padis Jewelry family. We are so grateful for your continuing friendship and loyalty and hope to be your family’s jeweler for a lifetime and for generations to come. We sincerely thank you for allowing us to be a part of your life’s most precious moments!

Forevermark demonstrates values that transcend the finished product and its mining, making lasting contributions to mining communities through educational, medical and social initiatives and through actions taken to redress the environmental impact of mining. There are also dedicated programs for career development for women and education of children. Forevermark’s passion for diamonds is matched by their deep sense of connection to the natural world, which they are dedicated to protecting for future generations. Forevermark is committed to the preservation and protection of habitats, their species, and the wider natural world. 30
