ABSTRACT & EXPRESSION

Release. 2019. 16" x 20" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Sasha-Loriene. $500.00

'Release’ was the result of the frustration of not surpassing my last painting or living up to my own expectations. I decided to let loose on this canvas and creatively release my emotions. I never reached the “wow, I love this” moment but I reached an ever greater moment - I realized that I don’t have to. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect. Letting something out is good enough.

I created this piece over the course of 7 days by adding layers, omitting areas, adding color, and adding words and messages for the viewers. This was the first time time I used this process and I really enjoyed creating in this way.

'Patience' describes the act of waiting and perfect timing.

Life. 2019. 20" x 16" Oil and Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Alexis Kourtney. $150.00

When I do abstract paintings, I’m usually letting my emotions guide me to what feels right.

“Life” depicts my perception of what life is, the balance of the good and bad with the painful moments in between. The red is the pain that we experience in life that is inevitable. The white represents light and hope, while the black is the pressure that we put on ourselves.

Most of the colors blend in somewhat because life is a blend of all of these moments. 004. 2019. 12" x 16" Acrylic on Paper.

By Ashley Cole. $500.00

004 is one of the pages from my diary. I use my canvase pads to journal thoughts and feelings through color. I revist them for inspiration and add to them on the the days I need to release.

This is the fourth painting from my Diary Collection.

My Mother Is Nigerian. 2019. 20" x 16" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Carinista Art. $190.00

'I learned through Ancestry.com that I am part Nigerian and so are both of my parents. What better way to celebrate Kwanzaa than to paint something that not only honors my parents and highlights my favorite Kwanzaa principle, KUUMBA (creativity)! This was a live painted done December 29, 2019 at Cultured Studios in New London, CT for the studio’s first annual Kwanzaa celebration. The past I never new existed is embedded in this piece, as it acts as a dedication to my late mother and my Nigerian ancestors. Peace.

AFROCENTRIC

My Little Mermaid. 2019. 20" x 16" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Carinista Art. $480.00

Red locs with pollutants entangled in each section. This piece not only encourages representation but it also tells it like it is when it comes to pollution. This is how I envisioned Halle Bailey to look as the character Ariel.

Zion. 2018. 24" x 36" Oil on Stretched Canvas.

By Miya Wells Art. $400.00

Zion is about her hair. There’s a street near me that has cascading trees, creating a tunnel. In fall, it’s gorgeous. Her hair is a reflection of that fall view and the colors present. In some places, Zion means a utopia or heaven on earth. The fall colors remind me of how beautiful this world can be.

FIGURATIVE

Salvage. 2016. 36"x24" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Sasha-Loriene. $1,100.00

"Salvage - the rescue of a wrecked or disabled ship or its cargo from loss at seas.” I originally started this piece in 2015 as a collaboration piece. Circumstances changed and the original painting never came into fruition. I decided to start fresh and paint over her. I painted my feelings and poured back into myself in the process. Tek Time. 2018. 24"x12" Acrylic and Oil on Stretched Canvas

By Addie Rawr. $750.00

This piece was inspired by my favorite duo DVSN. I was expanding my range as an artist while intertwining my love for black women

in the process.

My Tiger Lily. 2016. 10.25"x12.25" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By SOYSHEM Arts. $270.47

Tiger Lilly’s are some of my favourite flowers. They have presence, character, distinct beauty and draw you in to it’s uniqueness, just like black women.

Swimming With Turtles. 2016. 30"x24" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By SOYSHEM Arts. $1,100.00

The first time I went snorkeling was in Barbados. I had the privilege to stroke the shell back of a turtle that was over 100 years old! The connection I felt to the sea world and all its wonders inspired me to paint Swimming With Turtles.

This painting ships from the UK.

My Joy. 2019. 20" x 20" Oil on Stretched Canvas.

Art by Keila. $375.00

I chose to adopt a healthy eating habit a couple months ago due to health issues. On that day, I got a canvas and decided to paint something that will remind me of that day. Eating healthy, is not about strict limitations, being thin or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Rather, it’s about feeling great, having more energy, and being HAPPY.

Love You Mom. 2018. 7"x5" Mixed Media on Cradled Wood Panel

By Waterscissorspaper. $49.00

I love my mom and every year, I make a few paintings around Mother’s Day as a shout out to all the moms holding it down. Why birds? A bird, and how it tends to its baby, is magical. Birds walk the earth, swim in the sea, and soar in the skies above, often bringing sticks to make a nest and food to drop in their babies mouths. They teach them to fly when they are ready. My Mom did all these things and more. She gave me wings.

This piece was created with pencil, acrylic paint, and recycled magazines.

Summer Commute. 2018. 20"x16" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas

By Carinista Art. $80.00

This piece is meant to reflect my mind during a morning walk in the summer - light and fluffy visuals of my imagination. Music playing, scenery passing and a clear and refreshing morning sky overhead. Cupids Bow. 2018. 24"x24" Acrylic and Glitter on Stretched Canvas (2 piece set)

Stormy Things Studio. $380.00

This was the first piece of art I created after deciding to start my company, Stormy Things Studio. It was after many years of creative artist blocks and rejections from graphic design companies, which was what I majored in during college. Creating this piece started me on my new journey of creating art for myself and others to enjoy.

MINIMALIST

Mix and Mingle. 2019. 12" x 24" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Kheila J (Matters Of The Art). $80.00

This piece is a fluid art painting, inspired by summertime at the beach. The blues and oranges complement each other to make a perfect addition to any space. This piece comes stretched and ready to hang.

POP

Conceptual Beauty. 2019. 36" x 24" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Stormy Things Studio. $500.00

When painting this piece, I was in a space where I wanted to be appreciated for not only for my body but also for my ideas and thoughts. Sometimes, people can't see past physical beauty. Women are more then what the naked eye can see. We have many layers. Reception. 2019. 40" x 30" Acrylic on Stretched Canvas.

By Sheneece's Pieces. $350.00

I wanted to do lines of color for this painting but as I was creating it, it quickly took me back to my childhood – those days of knowing it was bed time because the TV said so. So I decided to add a little snowy effect and added a TV. I named this painting Reception after the tangible meaning and literal meaning of receiving. Ironically, my favorite aspect of this piece is hearing how it's personally received by others.
