We are delighted that the woodland fairies and friends are returning to the gardens of Enys. After last year’s success, the fairies have returned with even more of their secretive and usually shy animals. The trail is designed for all ages, but you will have to keep your eyes peeled if you are going to see all the animals that live in this magical world. New for this year is an accompanying story/colouring book so you can remind yourselves of the beautiful fairies and their friends.

As Polwhele House marks its 40th anniversary, there is cause for further celebration as it opens its new Nursery School. The Nursery School at Polwhele House is inspired by Boscawen Rose, the school’s very first nursery.

40 years of experience goes into providing a special place for children to begin to explore their individual spirit of curiosity in a beautiful environment, where they are helped to grow, flourish & thrive as they take the first steps on their learning journey.

Cornwall Play Therapy Associates are here!

Have you ever wondered what Play Therapy is? Or maybe you have a child who is experiencing difficulties and you are not really sure where to go for help?

Play Therapy is a specialized form of counselling that is designed specifically for children. Play is the natural form of communication for children and through the metaphor of play, children are distanced from the reality of their world and do not feel threatened or interrogated.

A qualified and experienced Play Therapist is trained to enter your child’s ‘world of play’ and identify any difficulties your child might be communicating. Children can use their play to work through their problems, with their Play Therapist to support them. In addition, your child’s Play Therapist can help you and your child’s teachers have a better understanding of what they may be struggling with and will often make suggestions for ways to support your child at home and in school.

Trusting your child’s mental health to a professional is a difficult decision for most parents and carers. This uncertainty is not helped by the range of different people saying they offer ‘play therapy’ or are ‘play therapists’. Play Therapist is not a protected title, so it is very hard for parents, carers and teachers alike to be confident that they are engaging the right therapist to support a child’s individual needs.

Some time ago, a group of concerned qualified and experienced Play Therapists came together to create Cornwall Play Therapy Associates.

They are really worried that the lack of ‘protected title’ is leading to unqualified people offering therapeutic support, which was not meeting the needs of children and actually risked causing them harm.

Knowing that your therapist is registered with a professional body is important. It offers your family the protection of knowing the therapist is bound by a code of ethics (and there is a complaints procedure if you are not satisfied with the service you receive); they are insured and comply with data protection regulations; they need to continue to keep up to date with new research and there are checks in place to ensure that they are ‘fit to practice’.

Cornwall Play Therapy Associates have put together a website that they hope will be a free and useful, first point of contact for parents, carers and teachers in finding out about Play Therapy. All the Associates have also volunteered to provide a free and no-obligation point of contact to answer any questions you many have or direct you to a qualified Play Therapist close to you. They want to ensure that every family receiving Play Therapy support has a positive therapeutic experience.

A series of 8 micro pilgrimages ideally suited to primary school children. Each will take you on a journey of discovery finding out about local history, geography, conservation, saints and legends.

Follow a colourful map, looking for lots of interesting features.

Reflect on nature as you walk, look, listen and think. Be creative with natural materials or go on a Beach Scavenger Hunt.
