Rules for Bred Heifers:
1. Heifers need to be consigned in groups of 3 to 5 heifers. Each consignor must consign a minimum of three (3) heifers.
2. Heifer birthdates: August 1 to December 31, 2024
3. Heifers should calve between August 1 and December 31, 2026
4. All heifers must be bred to a registered bull, preferrably with EPD (Expected Progeny Difference) values. Heifers can be bred AI or pasture bred.
5. The registration number of the sire(s) and service sire(s) of the bred heifer must be provided at consignment to the sale.
6. A breeding date or date range and the resulting projected calving date range will be required for each bred heifer.
7. Heifers must be determined pregnant by a licensed veterinarian by rectal palpation or ultrasound by May 10, 2026.
8. Recommended Vaccinations and best management practices are the following:
a. 7-way Blackleg (Clostridial diseases)
b. 5-way Leptospirosis - Vibriosis
c. IBR-PI3-BVD-BRSV
d. Heifers should be treated for internal and external parasites within 30 days prior to the sale using a quality product as a best management practice. The above vaccines should be given twice (a primary and booster) in accordance with the specific vaccine label directions or within a veterinarian-client relationship in accordance with Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) guidelines.
9. Each bred heifer must have a minimum WDA (weight per day of age) of 1.5 lbs./day at delivery. This equals to 945 lbs. for August born heifers; 900 lbs. for September born heifers; 850 lbs. for October born heifers; 810 lbs. for November born heifers; 765 lbs. for December born heifers.
10. Heifers must not have been implanted with a growth implant at any time during their life.
Sale Order and Sale Commission:
Sale order will be determined by a committee once all consignment females are received at the sale barn on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Sale order will rotate among consignors and will take into consideration quality and overall number of females consigned.
Sales commission will be 8.5%.
Additional charge: If heifers arrive to the sale facility NOT tagged with both the visual and EID tags, there will be a $35/head chute charge to tag your cattle.

Rules for Select Pairs:
The definition of Select Pairs for the Blackbelt Fall Ball Replacement Female Sale are as follows:
1. Cow should have a birthdate between August 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024.
2. Current calf at side should be born between August 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026.
a. Calf must be sired by a registered bull. Calves can be sired by AI bulls or natural service sires.
Additional Select Pair Information:
3. Select Pairs will be sold as pairs. Two pairs will be sold at a time through the sale ring.
a. A consignor should consign at least 2 pairs
4. The registration number of the calf’s sire(s) must be provided at consignment to the sale. If known, also provide the registration number of the dam’s sire.
5. Recommended Vaccinations and best management practices are the following for the cow:
a. 7-way Blackleg (Clostridial diseases)
b. 5-way Leptospirosis - Vibriosis
c. IBR-PI3-BVD-BRSV
d. Cows should be treated for internal and external parasites within 30 days prior to the sale using a quality product as a best management practice. 6. Each pair will be screened for structural correctness, udder quality, overall quality and foot structure. The sales management has the right to refuse inferior quality pairs.
7. No use of growth implants in the cow or their heifer calf.
Preparing Heifers for Sale Day
1. The goal is to present your heifers with their best foot forward. No matter the breed type, one way to make the heifers look more youthful is to:
a. Clip the tail hair to the bottom of the tail bone as seen in Figure 3.

b. Clip ear hair if ear hair is long. This makes sure the entire ear tag number can be easily and clearly seen. It also adds to the youthful appearance of the heifer. Again scissors or clippers can be used.
c. Head and brisket areas can also be clipped. However, this needs to be done approximately 3 weeks prior to sale day.
Application of Sale Tags
All cattle selling in the 2023 Fall Ball Sale must be tagged with a visual tag and an official (840) EID tag. According to Alabama law, Official ID is required for cattle, 18 months of age or older at change of ownership; all female dairy cattle; cattle and bison used in rodeo, show, exhibition or recreational events. Exemptions to the rule are cattle less than 18 months of age and cattle sold for slaughter purposes. However, regardless of age, we are tagging all cattle sold in this sale.
All cattle must be tagged prior to arriving in Uniontown on November 16th
1. Remove your farm visual tag
2. An Allflex Universal Tagger is needed to apply the sale visual tag and the EID tag
a. If you are unable to get an Allflex Universal Tagger, please contact Jeremy or Lisa for assistance. (Figure 1)
3. Please place the sale visual tag and EID tag in the RIGHT EAR if at all possible. Please look at the graphic to look at placement of the visual tag and the EID tag. (Figure 2)
a. If your animal has a tattoo in his ear, do not place either tag through the tattoo.
b. Place the EID tag as close to the head as possible. Please make sure the male portion of the tag is on the backside of the bull’s ear.
c. If you animal already has an EID in his ear, DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG. Just let us know what the number is.

4. Match your farm tag with the sale tag number. Write the sale tag number and the farm tag number on the enclosed worksheet. Please email or mail this information prior to delivery day.
Video Pen “Guidelines”
Blackbelt Cattle Marketing has hired DVAuction to provide live internet auction bidding on Sale Day. They will also place videos on their website for potential buyers to view prior to sale day.
On sale day, DVAuction will play these videos of the cattle plus provide a live feed as they animals are being auctioned.
Obviously, we want to showcase your cattle as their best. Here are some guidelines to getting great video when we come to your farm.
1.First, and most importantly, we need to video the actual animals you will be bringing to the sale. That means they need to be separated from others not coming to the sale when we come to video.
2.The second most important thing having the ability to video the animals. Since we will be selling heifers in groups, it is okay to video in groups, but we want to be able to see each heifer individually and not have them all bunched up.
a.If you know you want to pen certain heifers together for the sale, we need to shoot them as a group.
b.We have to have a place to video. The location should be:
i.As level as possible
1. A flat pen allows the videographer to shoot footage with the animal going in each direction, which creates less time for that animal in the video pen (and stress) and provides a better perspective of the animal.
ii.A place we can get the heifers to walk as straight as possible for as long as possible (ideally 60 feet or longer). In an ideal world, the heifers will walk nose to tail in a straight line.
1.For large groups, a long fenceline could work.
2.Buyers will want to see the cattle walk, so no feed.
3.The 60 foot mark will keep the videographer out of the animal’s flight zone.
iii.Mowed grass is most eye-appealing to potential buyers. If you can’t mow it, the grass should not be taller than 9 inches. A dry dirt lot is also fine.
iv.The location should be free from distractions and items you don’t want in the background. The goal is all focus is on the animals.
3.The videographer will always shoot with the sun at their back, so plan for them to shoot facing the Northwest in the morning, straight North in the mid part of the day, and the Northeast later in the day.
a.This minimizes shadows on the animal, which detract power and eye appeal from the subject.
4.The ideal pen layout is on the back of this sheet. We understand we will have to shoot in a variety of situations and will make work what you have. We are providing this information to let you know how we can achieve the best success together.
