TINICIA TEE SMITH “Being a Black Woman is LIFE. A Black woman births beautiFULL Black children, and ideas, the type of ideas that ensure the best life for heir children.

I am most proud about the strength that I am able to exhibit as a Black woman. Being able to balance marriage, motherhood, and career as well as being a business owner who is involved in the betterment of the community.

The cards were not dealt in a Black Woman’s favor however, I have taken the hand that I have been dealt and ran an Boston on life. I am Loving how I’m Living.”

SHANI ANDERSON “I would best describe my journey as being a black woman in the word STRENGTH! Every single day I’m faced with obstacles that are designed and meant to break me however, day after day I stand tall while many days internally feeling shattered. I choose to smile instead of cry. A young ashamed mother and college drop out I was told by many I would fail and be just another statistic. The strength within me used it as fuel and regardless what brick I was forced to carry I did it with what appeared to be ease. Forced throughout my life’s journey to wear multiple hats made it even more challenging but the God I serve picked me up when I felt I had nothing left, refueled my strength and has never left my side. Even in my brokenness I’m STRENGTH! First and foremost the phenomenal woman that came before me, building the foundation while displaying strength on a level that was hard to fathom as a child. Defying all the odds and labels this country puts on “being black” and taking pride in my ability to be strong while feeling broken, to be positive while feeling sad and being an inspiration to so many even in my broken spaces.

I feel most proud that my internal strength as a black woman allows me to be humble yet confident and secure enough to stand in ALL of ME, regardless what others may think!”

“I can see that I’m Black when I look in the mirror, when I show up to the office or when I go out into the world. My Blackness is powerful and the culture I come from is complex and deserves respect. I’m inspired to show up fully as myself in all rooms I enter, be it a boardroom or a bedroom. Being a Black Woman is being attentive to my culture, to my brothers, sisters and ultimately to my community.

A lot of my coming-of-age and being proud to be a Black Woman was unpacking and eliminating some of those mental chains, and redefining what is true for me, and what is beautiful. My voice is loud and it’s bold and I try to use it for good. I truly believe if you don’t use your gift, it’s going to go away. I was like, “Noni, you better use it. And use it to serve.” So, my way of doing that was creating random affirmations (#noniism) vis Instagram and Facebook that have helped me follow the trail on the path of my life. I am proud of what I can contribute to my culture, brothers, sisters and community as a Black Woman on #noniism at a time.”

ADELE WILLIAMS “Knowing the lineage from our Black origins, I wouldn't want to be anything else but a Black Woman. We come from royalty, Kings & Queens whose heritage and riches expands beyond what is portrayed in movies and TV. In truth, the hardships we have endured as Black Women have made us the resilient, strong, innovative and intelligent women we are today.

We are entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, professors, athletes, students, mothers, daughters, sisters, friends... truth be told there are people in other races spending big money to look like us, and that stems from their admiration (whether secret or not) of us... there's no other woman I'd rather be than a Black Woman... period.�

She is also the proud mother of four sons, who, though they all exhibit artistic talent, none have chosen to follow in her footsteps‌

“Recently I was asked why I often used African-American females in my work.

My initial response was along the lines of, ‘I paint what I know’.

But as I continued to think about it, I realized that I paint the black female because to me, it is the ultimate tool of expression.

The female figure in general, is a familiar reference, with a built in dictionary—gestures and expressions equal certain meanings.

It can evoke a variety of ideas simply by being “illustrated”— even if the artist’s intention was to present only one.

The black female figure embodies all that and so much more.

My work often explores the

myriad of tones and colors found in their skin, the multitude of textures present in their hair, the fullness of their features and the suppleness of their figures to create images full of emotion, strength, beauty, and power.

My work is not just about honoring the physical beauty of the black female, it does, in fact, reveal how the elements of her loveliness become tools to define, reveal, and illustrate a much richer beauty that lives beyond, beneath, and un-anchored by the physical characteristics of her flesh. early every student in the United States learns about Sacagawea, the remarkable Shoshone woman who accompanied Lewis and Clark from the Northern Plains through the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and back – all while carrying her infant in a papoose!

A History of Caring

More than two centuries later, Sacagawea’s descendant, Sacajawea Patrick, is making her own journey through unchartered territory – fostering toddlers through Angels Foster Family Network. It wasn’t her foremother who inspired her to foster, though. The single mother of two teens of her own says she has wanted to serve as a foster parent since she was a little girl. “Where I grew up families always had foster kids and they weren’t always treated so well, so they came over to our house,” she recalls. “Our home was a wonderful place. My father even built a basketball court at our house so all of the children in the neighborhood could come over and play. Sacajawea says she used to love reading to the little children and teaching them sign language.

When Sacajawea was seven years old, she saw a film on the life of Josephine Baker and her “Rainbow Tribe” of adopted children and she knew fostering was her calling. “I told my parents ‘That’s going to be me,’ and they told me they didn’t doubt it for a minute,” she says, sitting in her living room, a warm, homey space with stuffed animals and games bursting from toy chests. There are two brand-new tricycles with shiny streamers spouting from the handle bars for the toddler twins, a brother and sister, who have been with her and her teens Shannon, 16, and Sacajawea, 13, for more than a year. “These children are so full of pureness and joy,” Sacajawea says with a sigh. “It just shows everything that’s good in the world.”

Sacajawea said she was pleasantly surprised to find that she was eligible to foster as a single mother. “I am blessed with a good job and a home, but I thought it was a requirement that I had to be married. I’m glad it’s not because I treat these children like my own

and they brighten my day.” Her teens are equally committed to fostering.

“They are well-mannered children who are very helpful to me and consider these kids their siblings.”

This is not to say fostering is easy.

Each case is different and children may have medical or emotional issues. And sometimes navigating the relationship with biological family can be challenging. Sacajawea has had her share of bumps along the road, but says Angels Foster Family Network has supported her every step of the way. In addition to ongoing education and support groups for foster parents, the agency provides each family with a clinical case manager who is available to answer questions or address concerns round the clock. Despite the challenges, Sacajawea continues fostering because she knows she’s making a difference in the lives of young children and that makes it worth the effort. And if anyone knows how to make her way through difficult terrain it’s Sacajawea. It’s in her blood.

Can chemistry be developed over time with your partner/date? Chemistry is an emotion you feel for someone that makes you think “I need to see him/her again”. That feeling you get when you two “click.”

Yes. Chemistry can and should be built over time.

1. The initial chemistry is not an indicator of what the future holds.

It’s not! You think you can tell by this initial meeting or maybe if you are sexually attracted to the person.

Then you jump ahead and think this person is very intellectual based off the conversation, next you think, “Oh my! I can work with him or her.” But, slow down.

The initial chemistry that you feel or don’t feel is not an indicator of how your future will unfold. For example, my brother’s wife (my sister-in-law) was not feeling my brother. He, of course, did the chase and eventually wore her down. She wasn’t into him at all. You know how you meet someone and it’s just “okay.” Now they have a thriving, wonderful relationship with 4 kids.

I’ve heard several stories like this from my clients. Even in my own relationship, I didn’t believe my now husband was into me. Our first date was good, but there were no butterflies or stars within my eyes. After continuing to see him, getting to know him, and appreciate him and what he brings to my life, I fell for him and he fell for me. Our chemistry and attraction grew over time. I also hear clients say the guy or girl they had the most attraction and chemistry with did not meet their requirements over time or they felt as though something was missing.

2. You may be stressed or preoccupied. Once you relax you can focus and chemistry can ensue.

When you first go out on these dates you want to be the other person’s “type” whether you admit this verbally or not. In whichever manner you met the person, either online or when you were out and about having that initial conversation, you want to be their type. You are meeting them face-to-face. It’s time for the conversation, you will think, “Are they going to like me?”

Or something could’ve happened just before you two are supposed to meet for the date. You’re not in the best mood but you don’t want to cancel the date, so you may have been preoccupied about things and may have come off the wrong way. Your date may be going through something, as well, and they didn’t want to cancel the date either. Then you are in your head thinking, “Was the date good or not?”

Find a way to do something so you can shake all of those things off of you, such as prayer, meditation, or laughing out loud, so you can show up as your best self.

This will help to reset you so you can showcase the real you while on the date. Because if you are being your true self then more than likely your date will like you.

Throw your representative in the trash. While dating and building a relationship, you really want to do that with the right person.

3. These feelings come and go depending on your partner’s behavior.

This chemistry can ebb and flow. It can come and go depending on your partner’s behavior. Sometimes you want to smack your partner (of course I don’t recommend that). But sometimes you feel this way because of their demeaning attitude. The chemistry seems more critical in the dating stages because you thought you two were doing good, but something happens and then you are confused.

Understand that this is a part of a relationship and life. You have to learn how to deal with these things IF you think they are a potential winner and they have bad days once in a while.

4. Be prepared to give it a short amount of time to build but no more than 6 dates.

Yes, 6 dates. I can hear the record scratching now. I say 6 dates because all that nervous energy should be down to a minimum by then. You would know if you want to continue seeing them after 6 dates and if you want to make the relationship exclusive or not. This should naturally occur whether it is verbalized or not. This gives things time to build up such as building up the connection. Building up the intimacy. Building up the flirting. Build up everything. Cutting someone off on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd date because things didn’t go right or they were a bit awkward or you felt there was a lot of dead space or silence there… is not giving the other person a fair chance.

Sometimes people are overly nervous and they may think you are the finest person they’ve ever seen or been out on a date with, so you are making them nervous.

Instead of them coming off as innocent, sweet, cute, or adorable you are becoming irritated. So if you initially found this person to be physically attractive, held a conversation with him or her eventually leading to a date, then give it the 6 dates to build up, so things can flow, and you both are in your natural state.

How will you make sure your chemistry can build over time? Can you be critical of the person without giving them a fair chance to show up as their authentic self?

Have you noticed the ebbs and flows within the chemistry in your own relationship or previous relationships? Will you test the 6 dates out before giving up? What can you do today to turn things around for you, especially, if you are currently on the fence about continuing to see him or her?

Staff Writer Female entrepreneurs make up approximately 1/3 of all entrepreneurs worldwide, and it's always a great time to highlight, support and applaud women in business, in your community and across the globe.

Here are a few easy ways you can celebrate and support businesswomen and female entrepreneurs.

Contact career counselors at high schools or local colleges and offer to let students shadow you at work, or give them a chance to do an informational interview with you to learn more about your business. Help them get connected within your business network and share your experiences. If your employer is willing, develop an internship or on-the-job training program to encourage and empower up-and-coming women in your industry.

Support companies actively involved in projects that empower women. Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. and Dove Chocolate have pledged $1 million to CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, specifically to empower women in West Africa. Dove Chocolate and CARE partnered to empower women in the cocoa growing communities of Cote d'Ivoire after an assessment of women's involvement in West African cocoa farms found that women were not benefiting from cocoa production, even though they participate in more than half of cocoa-farming activities. The first stone was recently laid on a new marketplace for women-led businesses in the village of Gueyo, a centrally located commerce area nestled among the cocoa fields of Cote d'Ivoire. 5 ways to create an inviting room using tile

Staff Writer Today's tile trends extend so far beyond their traditional use as a staple of bathroom design that you may not recognize them.
