our 2015 » 2017 challenges for Giulia BIFANO in the University Board (CdA) #supportcommitment
H
ello everyone! I am Giulia Bifano, a 21 year-old law student. I grew up in Calabria, but later moved to Milan, four years ago. Once at Bocconi, I immediately joined the Orientation Team: by touring Italian high schools, I had the opportunity to tell students how amazing it is to study in Via Sarfatti, thus re-discovering, time after time, the dreams of those who choose to enroll at our University. Year over year, I kept on overcoming shyness and putting myself to the test: as a class representative, I tried to help my classmates by “being there”, committed to solve everyday problems. That feeling of happiness stemming from “being useful” had eventually excited me so much that I decided to go deeper into campus life. In such a way, I stumbled into B.lab: you just step into one of its weekly meetings, meet enthusiastic students, with ambitious projects for our campus, and so you find out what a rich “extra-curricular” university life we can build - as students, indeed. The plans for the next two years are easy to guess: if you feel at home, your optimism and commitment to do your best steadily grow. Days spent running around Bocconi’s offices, sending email and polls on Faceook student groups, small victories, few disappointments and great results have shown me how even such a great University may and must be improved. If Bocconi wants us to be ambitious, then it is in fact asking us to ask for more. And that “more” is what I want to ask for, as the students’ representative in the University Board. I am going to do that along with you, thanks to the ideas you can find in our electoral program, written by hundreds of students and which you may contribute to construct.
We have challenging years in front of us and we have proven efforts cannot be just electoral promises. On our side, we have a lot of experience and strong will, to tailor our University according to the dreams and needs of its students. And that is what we will do, together.
What is B.lab | Bocconi?
Giulia
B.lab is the group that, thanks to your help and advice, has brought on for years a true passion for a present and responsible representation of students’ needs. Our motto is “Be Free!”: we are fond of independence and therefore we decided since the very beginning to represent a truly plural and heterogeneous laboratory. We deem that being involved in Uni life can be an extraordinary experience: weekly meetings, the first International Welcome Week with its Speed Date, Crash Labs, conferences, Christmas Gala, the “Freshmen Guide”, many tutorials and much more: this is our story!
#SAID&DONE here there are some of our results... > 12-week summer - internships and Summer Schools are now more accessible. The revised calendar allows us to better combine academic learning with field experiences, thus letting Bocconi students compete with top int’l universities. Immediate effects: 100+ more Exchange slots, thanks to a stronger alignment with partner universities; one/two December test dates for all degree programmes. We can improve it further. > Get your degree in July 2015 - those who took part at the Exchange Programme in the first semester can take first-semester exams in July and still earn their degree in July if they need it for Graduate Schools abroad. > One-access WiFi - you no longer need to type username and password any time you arrive on campus. Register to the “BOCCONI-STUDENTI” network and never log in again. > New way to pay the first instalment - in September everyone is required to pay a 1500€ deposit, while the balance is owed in December. In this way the old payment-and-reimbursement system is substituted by a much simpler one, which helps scholarship recipients and those whose income bracket has been revised. > New rules for CASA Committee - 50% shorter times to have your association approved and to set up an event (from 21 to 10 days on average). > Bunker - more study spaces and extended opening, especially during exam periods. > E-learning platform integrated into yoU@B - accessible from the same webpage. > Study rooms in the Library are now assigned with a faster process - you can easily reserve places from your mobile and save precious time. > Free courses to get prepared for foreign language certifications - IELTS, BEC e ILEC. > You can now take IELTS at Bocconi - from May 2015! > International welcome week - not just one day, but an entire week for student associations to organise activities to welcome freshmen. Last year we organised an International Speed Date and a huge party at Parco Ravizza, with sports, music and Sangria! > Instalment payment reminder - a pop-up on yoU@B now warns you that the deadline to pay one of your instalments is approaching, so as to avoid late-payment sanctions. > New student associations now approved in shorter time - since fewer documents are required, our campus has never been so lively! > School of law: Merit Awards, Telders Moot Court, second foreign language.
This is just a selection... on
the complete list!
