Sustainable Design
OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE DESIGN.
Throughout our nearly 45 years of experience, we have developed an integrated, holistic approach to design. Collaboration happens resulting in innovation throughout the process. With the impacts of climate change growing every day, this mindset is even more important – we have no time to waste. Addressing carbon in the built environment and working to combat climate change is no longer a choice but an obligation. We combine passion for the Planet + People strategies to positively impact our clients carbon footprint and their bottom line. In partnership with our clients, we aim to establish a holistic vision for their project.
SITE PLANNING
Sustainable site planning extends beyond project boundaries to embody neighborhood values. The orientation of site buildings is crucial to optimize renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, as well as solar hot water and daylighting. Incorporating low-maintenance, native landscaping preserves views of nature from the station’s interior, while features like fresh vegetable and flower gardens contribute to health and well-being strategies.
ENERGY CONSERVATION
Energy efficiency plays a pivotal role in the design of our fire stations, given their round-the-clock occupancy. Incorporating renewable energy sources, Incorporating renewable energy sources, energy rebates, solar, electric, water conservation, circadian lighting, geothermal, passive solar, and self-shading for sustainability. Natural ventilation and daylighting boost firefighter well-being. Orientation maximizes efficiency. Our team uses modeling to ensure optimal outcomes.
HEALTHY MATERIALS
With a plethora of materials available, safety is paramount. At BKV Group, each office boasts a comprehensive material library. We collaborate with manufacturers to ensure the selection of the finest products for our clients. Our designers and architects prioritize sustainable materials, scrutinizing the embodied carbon of options like steel and concrete. We endorse various certifications such as Declare Labels, Cradle to Cradle, Health Product Declaration, and Mindful Materials.
