THE ROOTS WITHOUT ROOT

First I looked for mushrooms in the forests around Sequerciani. I walked along a road or maybe a dry riverbed with forest on both sides. I found a kind of mushroom growing at the junction between the trunk and the roots. Then I noticed these tree roots. They can be washed away by rain, eaten by insects or decomposed by fungi and scattered in the riverbed. I collected about thirty tree roots and brought them from Sequerciani to Berlin. For each of the roots I drew "portraits". The original portraits are almost the same size as the original roots. The postcard set shows a collection of 30 portraits that are about half the size of the original roots.
