Welcome to one of the fastest growing cities in the state of Oklahoma! With a growth rate of over 116% since 2000, Bixby is now the 15th largest city in the state and the 4th largest city in Tulsa county, with nearly 30,000 citizens.

Some of the major attractions to Bixby are its excellent schools, quality neighborhoods, friendly small town feel, and significant commercial development growth. The percentage of citizens holding a B.S. degree or higher is 2/3rds higher than statewide average at 46%. Our prosperous city also has the highest median home values in the Tulsa Metro Region, which is 70% higher than the state as a whole. Bixby also has the highest per capita income in the Tulsa Metro Region, at 51% higher than the state of Oklahoma average.

Bixby offers interstate and major highway access (I-44, US 169, US 75 via HWY 64 & HWY 67, and HWY 64). International air service via the Tulsa International Airport is only 30 minutes from downtown Bixby. Water cargo transport through the Tulsa Ports at Catoosa is only 15 minutes away, with more than 2.2 million tons of cargo moved through the Port each year by barge, rail and truck.

Learning IN BIXBY

The Bixby school system is a wonderful place to work and learn. Recently completing my fifth year as superintendent, I can report the district has a strong foundation and is riding momentum to accomplish incredible things for Bixby’s children over the next decade and beyond.

Despite the challenges associated with the pandemic, students have continued to thrive in Bixby. We are one of the fastest growing districts in Oklahoma with an enrollment of over 7,900, expanding by 18% since May 2021. The district’s growth is anticipated to continue for the next few years, reaching nearly 10,000 students in 2028. To prepare for these new students, we have begun construction of a 200,000 square foot, state-ofthe-art academic building on our high school campus, scheduled to open in fall of 2024. Furthermore, 20 new classrooms have been added to our West Campus to address growth in this section of town. These are just a few of many bond projects approved by our community in February, 2022. The bond campaign, “Building An Extraordinary Future Together,” will

deliver significant improvements and renovations over the next three to five years.

The district has a well-deserved reputation in academics, athletics, arts, and student activities. Bixby High School is rated in the top 15 high schools in the state’s annual ratings. Our students’ proficiency levels on state testing are among the highest in Oklahoma. Of course, we are very proud of our eight-time state champion Spartan Football Team, the six-time state champion Pride of Bixby Marching Band, and our award-winning Marine Corps Junior ROTC program, among many others. Needless to say, we have many things to be proud of at BPS. I am also pleased with our district’s efforts to instill character and citizenship in our students. Bixby Schools is the only district in Oklahoma to be recognized as a Great Expectations Model District. These practices and philosophies match well with our Spartan motto to “Learn Well and Live with Honor.”

PARKS & RECREATION

The award-winning Bentley Park Sports Complex in Bixby is one of the best youth parks in Oklahoma. The complex features: bocce courts, 14 youth soccer fields, horseshoe pits, international soccer field, super playground, splash pad, and more.

Charley Young Event Park is an urban park located in the heart of Downtown Bixby. The park features an outdoor concert stage with built-in lighting, a large green open-space lawn, interactive fountains, and a jungle gym.

The 32.5 acre Washington Irving Memorial Park and Arboretum is located just north of the Arkansas River Bridge on Memorial in Bixby, just south of 134th and Memorial. Located in the park, visitors will find: Laci Dawn Hill Butterfly Garden, Memorial to the children of the Murrah Building bombing, Memorial to 9/11, picnic tables, and walking trails.

Bixby is less than 10 miles from Tulsa and is within a 90-120 minute drive to major lakes and rivers. Lake Bixhoma, located about 5 miles southeast of Bixby on Leonard Mountain, is a gorgeous city lake that is a great fishing spot.

Haikey Creek maintains 151 acres, picnic shelters, picnic tables and grills, playgrounds, restrooms, running/walking trail, outdoor fitness court, disc golf course, and more!

Located in South Country Estates subdivision in the 8600 block of 106th Street South, the Quail Creek Park, facilities include playground equipment, picnic tables, swing set, a barbecue grill, and 2-lighted Tennis courts.

Oklahoma’s first linear park, Harmony Bridge is a newly renovated bridge over the Arkansas River and is wonderful for picnics, strolling, or playing with the kids.

EVENTS & FESTIVALS

At Washington Irving Memorial Park & Arboretum each May, Bixby Rotary’s BBQ n’ Blues Festival features great food and entertainment for the whole family.

The Bixby Optimist Club’s Green Corn Festival in June features great music, crafts, food bingo, carnival games, fresh roasted corn, and more - all in the heart of Downtown Bixby.

The Bixby Freedom Celebration is the largest free, public fireworks show in this area. For the past five years, The Bridge

Church has presented this fun-packed family event to the community.

Support the Bixby Outreach Center at their annual Blue Jeans Ball, featuring a silent auction, whiskey and knife pull, and live music.

Bring the family out to the Washington Irving Festival the last Saturday in October! The Bixby Optimist Club puts on this free fall festival with trunk or treating, a costume contest, a children’s fun-zone, pony rides, food trucks and more!

Celebrate Christmas in Downtown Bixby and enjoy the annual Christmas Parade, photos with Santa, Ice Skating at Winter Wonderland, the Bixby Historical Society’s Festival of Trees, and more holiday activities at local businesses.

Retail business is growing rapidly to keep up with the increased population in the Bixby Area, and the Bixby Metro Chamber is proud to partner with these businesses to ensure they are prosperous. Bixby has access to several shopping centers, as well as shops and restaurants located along South Memorial Drive and in Downtown Bixby.

The Bixby branch of the Tulsa-County Library system is open 6 days a week in Downtown Bixby, or visit the Hardesty Regional Library, also part of the Tulsa-County System, just north of Bixby at 93rd and Memorial. Next?

Take one trip down Memorial Drive or through Downtown Bixby, and it’s hard to miss all of the development taking place throughout the city of Bixby. Bixby has been growing, and is growing quickly.

In the near future, Bixby is set to have several exciting developments, including a new Fire/EMS station, which is expected to help improve emergency response times in the area. Additionally, the brand new Performing Arts Center will soon begin construction, which will provide a venue for a variety of events and performances to the local commmunity.

Another upcoming development is the North River Access

Park, which is currently under construction and will offer residents and visitors direct access to the Arkansas River. The park is set to provide additional parking for walking trail access, a fishing dock, overflow parking for Washington

Irving Memorial park, and other recreational facilities.

Overall, Bixby is a vibrant community that is investing in its future with exciting developments, and we can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store!
