Ravalli County Sheriff / Coroner Steve Holton said the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred at an apartment complex on Main Street in Corvallis at approximately 2:15 a.m. this morning. At the time of this release, there are three confirmed deaths as a result of the fire. It is believed that all of the victims are adults. Corvallis Fire responded with mutual aid from Hamilton, Pinesdale, and Victor Fire Departments and were able to contain the fire to one building. The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office has directed all of its resources to the investigation, and called for assistance from the State Fire Marshal and an independent fire investigator. Sheriff Holton asks that anyone with information regarding the fire contact the RCSO immediately. The RCSO would like to visit with anyone in the area that might have seen how or when the fire started, or who might have witnessed any activity prior to the fire. The identities of the victims had not been released as of press time. The RCSO will release more information as the investigation See FIRE, page 3

Temporary hold placed on Stevensville recall election

On June 30, 2020, Ravalli County District Court Judge Howard Recht put a temporary hold on the administration of a recall election against the Mayor of Stevensville stating in his Temporary Restraining Order that “further processing of the Recall Petition risks causing irreparable and immediate harm to the Plaintiff.” The order enjoins the spon-

sor of the recall petition, Leanna Rodabaugh, and the County Clerk and Recorder, Regina Plettenberg, in her capacity as the County Election Administrator, and prohibits them from processing the Recall Petition any further than gathering more signatures during the allotted 3 month timeframe which began on May 22. A show cause hearing is set for July 9 at 9 a.m. at the

county courthouse. The temporary restraining order will stay in effect until the show cause hearing and a Preliminary Injunction will stay in effect until the final hearing and ruling on the issue. Mayor Dewey has challenged the legality of the petition in court claiming that it is based on lies and misinformation and should not have been approved for circulation.

A skateboard competition, live music, food and fireworks were the order of the day on the 4th of July at Lewis & Clark Park in Stevensville. The event was organized by Raymond Smith, who funded everything through donations from businesses, groups and individuals. The Stevensville Volunteer Fire Department topped off the day with an outstanding fireworks display with plenty of room in the park for social distancing. Jay Harmon, pictured here, was winner of the highest Ollie, clearing four skateboards. Ara Masar photo.
