Understanding the Queensland 491 Visa for Small Business Owners: A Pathway to Regional Australian Living IN an effort to encourage business growth and skilled migration in regional Queensland, the Queensland Government has introduced a specialized pathway under the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa, commonly known as the 491 visa, designed exclusively for small business owners. This pathway allows eligible applicants to establish and operate a business in designated regional Queensland, providing a compelling avenue toward potential permanent residency.

FEATURES OF THE QUEENSLAND 491 SMALL BUSINESS PATHWAY This pathway is tailored for migrants who are already residing in Queensland and managing a small business within designated regional areas. Key eligibility factors include: - Occupational Alignment: Applicants must hold an occupation listed in the LIN 19/051 instrument and have an active skills assessment for that occupation.

- Work and Study Status: Full-time work rights are essential, and applicants should not be currently studying.

The pathway offers two distinct options, each with unique criteria: Pathway 1: Purchase of an Existing Business • Business Acquisition: Purchase an existing, registered business in a regional area for a minimum of $100,000.

• Employment Requirement: Employ at least one Australian resident.

• Business Duration: The business must have been operational for at least six months before lodging an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Pathway 2: New Business Start-Up • Business Establishment: Start a new business and manage it consistently for at least two years.

• Profitability: The business must be profitable with a turnover of at least $200,000 in the twelve months preceding the application.

In both cases, applicants must complete an EOI on SkillSelect and submit a 491 – Small Business Owner Assessment Form to proceed with the visa application.

OVERVIEW OF THE QUEENSLAND 491 SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS PATHWAY The Queensland 491 visa – Small Business Owners pathway enables state nomination for those living and running a small business in regional Queensland. To qualify, applicants must meet the Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) requirements and those set by Queensland authorities.

The pathway is currently open for applications, providing a unique opportunity for business owners to contribute to the local economy while progressing toward Australian residency.

DEPARTMENT OF HOME AFFAIRS REQUIREMENTS To be eligible, applicants must fulfill key criteria set by the DoHA: • Points Requirement: A minimum score of 65 points on the points test, including state nomination points.

• Skills Assessment: Possess a positive skills assessment in a nominated occupation listed on the Home Affairs Legislative Instrument LIN 19/051.

• Age Limit: Be under 45 years old.

In Truckers, We Trust DO many Australians ever pause to consider the brave truck drivers who cover the vast 7.6 million square kilometres of our island continent? As we sit down to enjoy a meal—whether it's a hearty plate of vegetables, lamb, beef, or exotic meats—do we think about the hardworking truckers making that meal possible?

While we are savouring our delicious food, a tired, sweaty, and dehydrated trucker could be stranded in the desert, hundreds of kilometres from help. It's not unusual for truckers with their heavy road trains to be stuck for hours, or even days, waiting for auto mechanics or parts to arrive. Often, parts are flown in from cities, transferred to smaller planes, and delivered to the nearest airstrip. From there, they are driven for hundreds of kilometres to reach the stranded trucker, who can only hope the parts are the right ones.

But why is this the case?

Shouldn't these massive trucks be in perfect condition before embarking on long, rugged journeys across the country?

It's important to clear up the misconception that all roads in modern Australia are sealed. As of February 2024, of Australia's 817,000 kilometres of roads, less than 50%—only 355,000 kilometres—are sealed.

The remaining 462,000 kilometres are unsealed,

These roads include dry, dusty deserts, waterlogged surfaces, and slippery sand dunes that are nightmarish for vehicles without proper tires or traction. These harsh conditions cause the truck frame, engine, and cargo to shake violently, not to mention the discomfort for the truckers themselves.

We city dwellers often

complain when we hit a pothole in the pavement, yet many of Australia's rural roads are in such poor condition that even bridges are impassable to the massive trucks bringing food and goods to our tables. Think about it: While we enjoy the luxury of multimillion-dollar river walkways, many remote communities across the continent rely on truckers to bring essential supplies like food, medicine, and

educational materials.

Take the infamous Pentecost River crossings in the Kimberley, for example.

These remote areas, with their difficult road conditions, have been the same for centuries. The same routes were once traversed by the Indian Cameleers in the 1800s, who carried goods and explorers through this vast, unforgiving land. In these isolated regions, farms are often larger than countries like England or New York State, and some properties are as big as entire Pacific Islands. It takes truckers days—sometimes weeks—to reach these outposts with the

vital supplies needed to keep these communities running.

And let’s not forget the incredible women who also drive these long, lonely roads.

Women truckers like Sandeep Kaur and Heather Jones have proven themselves as leaders in this industry, taking on roles as drivers, navigators, auto mechanics, safety officers, and even chefs. They juggle their work with being loving mothers, wives, and pet owners. These women, just like their male counterparts, face all the challenges of the road, and we honour them for their contributions.

Couples who drive together as a team are

common, and for them, it’s not just a job—it’s a lifestyle.

Spending days on end together in a truck fosters strong relationships and is a testament to the power of teamwork. For solo drivers, like the seasoned Steve Grahan, their pets often accompany them as loyal companions, making the lonely journey a little less isolating.

Australia depends on its truckers. When they stop, Australia stops. So, in deep gratitude, we say, “In Truckers, We Trust.”

INDIAN EMINENCE IN POST-MODERN US POLITICS...

CONTD. FROM PG 1 travelled with a group of around 20 Indians from London, as part of the indentured labour trade, a practice common at the time.

This human trade tradition, although initially exploited, would later extend to Queen Victoria hiring an Indian servant, Mohammed Abdul Karim, in the 19th century.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and the relationship between India and the United States has evolved significantly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for instance, was one of the first world leaders to extend his congratulations to Presidentelect Donald Trump in 2016, a gesture that demonstrated the growing diplomatic bond between the two countries.

Modi’s enthusiastic tweet, “Heartiest congratulations, my friend Donald Trump, on your historic election victory,” was an emblem of the unique partnership forming between the two nations, underscoring a shared sense of pride, patriotism, and the global influence of Indian communities worldwide.

The Indian American influence in U.S. politics became even more evident during the 2024 elections.

A diverse group of Indian American leaders from various political, business, and academic backgrounds played key roles in both the

campaigns and in subsequent appointments to the Trump administration. These figures from the Indian diaspora have worked their way into influential positions, helping shape the political discourse and strategy on both sides of the aisle.

On the Democratic side, the most prominent Indian American figure is Vice President Kamala Harris. Raised by her Indian mother, who instilled a deep connection to their Hindu roots, Kamala Harris stands as a trailblazer in U.S. politics.

Her mother’s influence and the family’s commitment to Hindu rituals were significant parts of Kamala's upbringing.

In a previous issue of The Australian Indian Times, we explored her Indian roots and Hindu faith journey,

shedding light on how these cultural ties have shaped her approach to politics and governance. While Kamala Harris swore her inaugural oath as Vice President on a Christian Bible, her Hindu background remains an integral part of her identity and an inspiration for millions of Indian Americans.

Harris' ascent to the secondhighest office in the United States is a testament to the growing influence of Indian Americans in shaping U.S. politics.

Another rising star in American politics is Usha Chilukuri Vance, born in 1986 to Indian immigrant parents. Usha, now the wife of Vice-Presidentelect James David Vance, is set to become the second lady of the United States.

Throughout the election campaign, there were playful debates, fuelled by social media, about the differences between Telugu and Tamil heritage. Kamala Harris, with her Tamil Brahmin roots, and Usha Vance, with her Telugu heritage from Andhra Pradesh, both represent the rich diversity of India. Their involvement at the highest levels of U.S. political power serves as a proud moment for the Indian community, highlighting their growing presence and influence in American society.

Billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy also represents a key figure in this new Indian American political era.

Originally a Republican Party Presidential aspirant in 2024, Ramaswamy later endorsed Donald Trump and played a

crucial role in his campaign.

A monotheistic Hindu and fluent Tamil speaker, Ramaswamy hails from a family of immigrants from Palakkad, Kerala. His rise to prominence, culminating in his appointment to the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, reflects the continued integration of Indian American leaders into key political positions.

The department's focus on reducing government spending is an example of the practical, business-savvy approach that many Indian American leaders bring to the U.S. political sphere. By advocating for cuts in federal spending, including slashing foreign aid and streamlining the Department of Education, Ramaswamy and his colleagues seek to make government more efficient and responsive to taxpayers.

One of the most notable nominations in the Trump administration is that of Tulsi Gabbard, the first Hindu to serve in the U.S. Congress.

Although not of Indian descent, Gabbard’s use of the Bhagavad Gita during her congressional oath and her open embrace of Hindu values has made her a strong symbol of Indian influence in American politics. Gabbard’s name, Tulsi, derives from the sacred plant in Hindu tradition, and she is viewed as a representative of

the spiritual and cultural bridge between India and the United States. Recently, questions about her past inclusion in the "Quiet Skies" program—an algorithmbased surveillance system designed to track and screen passengers—have sparked debate, but these challenges have not diminished her standing in the political landscape.

In this post-colonial era, the growing influence of Indian Americans in U.S. politics is undeniable. As the relationship between the two countries deepens, Prime Minister Modi, along with his American allies, will continue to play a critical role in fostering global diplomacy. The voices of Indian American leaders are now integral to the American political discourse, shaping policy and bringing a diverse range of perspectives to the table.

In the coming years, we can expect even greater representation and influence from Indian Americans in U.S. politics, a journey that has come a long way from the days when the first Indian, “Tony,” was considered an insignificant speck. Today, Indian American politicians and leaders are shaping the future of the United States, demonstrating the power of the global Indian diaspora and its significant role in modern American politics.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year – Time to celebrate and reflect THE holiday season is upon us—a perfect time to reflect, celebrate good times, make peace with negative experiences, and come together as a community to share kindness and gratitude.

I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to all Year 12 graduates for reaching this significant milestone and to every student who completed the year.

Last month, A highlight for me was once more presenting the “Esperanza Award” (Esperanza means “Hope” in Spanish) to two very deserving recipients in grades 11 and 12. They never gave up on furthering their education despite life's challenges.

This award, sponsored by my mum and me in my late auntie's name - holds a special place in our hearts.

I also completed my Rite Journey and was presented with the STAR Award, a prestigious acknowledgment chosen by both my peers and teacher. This award is given to one student who excels in the program. This was only possible thanks to the support and guidance I’ve received from the Deo and Brisbane Indian Times Family. Much of this growth is thanks to my mentor, JD Deo, and wife Shanjeshni Deo. Their

Second India-Australia Annual Summit PRIME Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia held the 2nd India-Australia Annual Summit on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on 19 November. The 1st Annual Summit was held on 10 March 2023 in New Delhi during the State Visit of Prime Minister Albanese to India.

The Prime Ministers reaffirmed their support for strengthening the IndiaAustralia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They discussed cooperation in the areas of defence and security, trade and investments, education, skills and mobility, renewable energy, space, sports and people-topeople ties.

JOINT STATEMENT Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

They also reiterated their commitment for a peaceful, stable and prosperous IndoPacific Region, based on respect for international law.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, held the second Australia-India Annual Summit on the sidelines of the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Rio de Janeiro on 19 November 2024.

Ahead of the fifth anniversary of the AustraliaIndia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025, the Prime Ministers noted the significant progress made in strengthening bilateral ties across a range of important sectors – including climate change and renewable energy, trade and investment, defence and security, education and research, skills, mobility, science and technology, regional and multilateral cooperation, community and cultural links, and people-topeople ties.

3. Both Prime Ministers reflected on the shared interests of our region, noting with satisfaction that closer bilateral engagement has benefited both nations and the broader region. They welcomed sustained highlevel contact and ministerial engagement between India and Australia.

Looking forward, the Prime Ministers reaffirmed commitment to deepening cooperation and announced initiatives to focus and accelerate efforts for mutual benefit, as well as to promote the peace, stability and prosperity of our shared region.

ECONOMY, TRADE AND INVESTMENTS 4. The Prime Ministers expressed satisfaction at the increasing two-way trade, business engagements and

realise greater synergies between the economies of both the countries and promote mutually beneficial investments in both directions.

6. The Prime Ministers welcomed the extension of the Australia-India Business Exchange (AIBX) program for another four years from July 2024. The AIBX continues to boost the confidence and capabilities of Australian and India businesses to connect and develop mutually beneficial partnerships.

(KABIL) and Australia’s Critical Minerals Office as an opportunity to grow commercial links and advance supply chain diversification interests. The leaders underlined the role of research and innovation, skills development, and professional exchange, including participation in each other’s conferences; and sustainable practices in developing the critical minerals sector in support of the global clean energy transition, including as inputs to technologies such as batteries and roof top solar.

9. The Prime Ministers welcomed the growing space partnership between the two countries, both at space agency and space industry levels. Cooperation to support the Gaganyaan missions, the planned launch of Australian satellites on-board an Indian launch vehicle in 2026 and joint projects between our respective space industries exemplify this deepening collaboration.

50 Years Ago, Today FIFTY years ago today, the world was a very different place. It was 1974, a year marked by significant historical events, social changes, and cultural shifts.

The mid-1970s was a time when the world was transitioning from the turbulence of the 1960s into a new era of technological innovation, political upheaval, and cultural expression. Let’s take a journey back to 1974 and explore some of the major events and trends that defined the world half a century ago.

THE WORLD STAGE: A YEAR OF POLITICAL CHANGE The global political landscape in 1974 was marked by both hope and turmoil. One of the most significant political events of the year was the unfolding of the Watergate scandal in the United States, which would eventually lead to the resignation of President Richard Nixon in August 1974. In June of that year, the U.S. Senate Watergate hearings were televised, exposing the depth of the corruption and cover-up surrounding the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters.

The public outcry and investigations eventually forced Nixon to step down, making him the first U.S. president in history to resign from office. This scandal rocked the nation and left an indelible mark on American politics.

Across the world, political shifts were also taking place.

In Europe, many countries were grappling with the aftermath of World War II and adjusting to the Cold War dynamics between the United States and the Soviet Union. Artists such as David Bowie, Elton John, and Bob Marley were dominating the charts, while disco music was beginning to make its presence felt, foreshadowing the disco explosion that would hit in the late 1970s. On the other end of the spectrum, rock and roll was undergoing a transformation with the emergence of punk music, which would soon take centre stage in the late 1970s as a countercultural movement.

Filmgoers in 1974 were treated to some of the most influential movies of the decade. The year saw the release of The Godfather Part II, the epic continuation of Francis Ford Coppola’s groundbreaking crime drama that further cemented the legacy of the Corleone family. Meanwhile, Chinatown, directed by Roman Polanski, was released, offering a dark and gritty portrayal of

Second India-Australia Annual Summit CONTD. FROM PG 7 the Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation in 2025, to reflect ambition in both countries’ elevated defence and security partnership and strategic convergence.

The Prime Ministers looked forward to a longterm vision of defence and security collaboration between the two countries to enhance collective strength, contribute to both countries’ security and make an important contribution to regional peace and security.

The leaders appreciated the growing frequency and complexity of defence exercises and exchanges and the increasing interoperability through implementation of the Mutual Logistics Support Arrangement.

The Prime Ministers welcomed arrangements for enhancing maritime domain awareness and increased and reciprocal defence information-sharing to deepen operational defence cooperation, address shared concerns and challenges, and work towards an open, inclusive, peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

They agreed to develop a joint maritime security collaboration road map.

The Prime Ministers highlighted the significance of defence industry, research and material cooperation, including in the maritime industry, and noted the firstever participation of Indian defence industries in the Indian Ocean Defence & Security 2024 Conference in Perth and in the Land Forces Exposition in Melbourne.

Recognising the strength of growing peopleto-people linkages which continue to enrich our bilateral ties, the two leaders welcomed the significant contribution of Australians of Indian heritage and agreed to further strengthen this ‘living bridge’.

16. The Prime Ministers welcomed the opening of the new Consulate-General of Australia in Bengaluru and the new Consulate-General of India in Brisbane. They

expressed confidence that these will further strengthen trade and investment relations and deepen cultural links.

17. The Prime Ministers recognised that mobility opportunities between Australia and India were a key driver of economic growth.

They welcomed the launch of Australia’s Working Holiday Maker visa program for India in October 2024 and looked forward to the commencement of Australia’s Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES), which will promote mobility of early professionals and provide Australian industry access to some of India’s most talented STEM graduates.

18. Recognising the value of a strong and growing educational partnership, the Prime Ministers expressed satisfaction at Australian universities establishing their campuses in India. The Prime Ministers noted that the second Australia India Education and Skills Council meeting held in October 2024 helped in advancing educational and skills cooperation.

19. The Prime Ministers

REGIONAL AND MULTILATERAL COOPERATION 20. The Prime Ministers reiterated their commitment to supporting an open, inclusive, stable, peaceful and prosperous IndoPacific where sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected. The Prime Ministers underlined the importance of being able to exercise rights and freedoms in all seas and oceans consistent with international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), including freedom of navigation and overflight.

21. The Prime Ministers reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation through the Quad as a force for global good which delivers real, positive and enduring impact for the Indo-Pacific, to advance their shared vision for a region that is free, open, inclusive and resilient.

They appreciated the Quad’s ongoing efforts to undertake ambitious projects to help partners address pandemics and disease; respond to natural disasters; strengthen maritime domain awareness and maritime security; mobilise and build highstandard physical and digital infrastructure; invest in and benefit from critical and emerging technologies; confront the threat of climate change; bolster cyber-security; and cultivate the next generation

The Prime Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to ASEAN centrality and the ASEANled regional architecture including the East Asia Summit (EAS), the ASEAN Regional Forum and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus. They expressed ongoing support for the practical implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo Pacific (AOIP).

They noted the ongoing bilateral cooperation under the Indo Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), and called for enhanced cooperation in preserving maritime ecology, reducing the impact of marine pollution, ensuring sustainable use of marine resources, and reducing the impact of climate change.

The Prime Ministers reflected on the success of the 2024 Indian Ocean Conference, co-hosted by Australia and India in Perth, Australia’s Indian Ocean capital. They reiterated their strong support for the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) as the Indian Ocean region’s premier forum for addressing the region’s challenges and looked forward to working closely together when India assumes the IORA Chair in 2025.

23. The Prime Ministers agreed on the importance of strengthened cooperation in the Pacific to support the needs and priorities of Pacific Island countries and noted both countries’ ongoing commitment to supporting Pacific priorities, including climate action, health and education.

They affirmed the central role played by the Pacific Islands Forum and its 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific

Continent in addressing regional challenges.

Prime Minister Albanese recognised India’s role in extending development partnership to Pacific Island countries, including through the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) framework. Both countries also looked forward to support development activities in the Indian Ocean region.

24. The Prime Ministers exchanged views on contemporary regional and global developments.

They reiterated the call for resolution of ongoing conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. They also emphasised the importance of all countries combating the threat of terrorism, including by bolstering cooperation in the Financial Action Task Force, as the global standard setter and international body for countering terrorism financing, and exploring other initiatives to tackle terrorism financing. Both leaders unequivocally condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms.

25. The Prime Ministers shared their positive assessment of the progress of bilateral engagements and affirmed their commitment to further and deepen ties for mutual benefit and for the benefit of the region.

Acknowledging the significance of the approaching fifth anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Prime Ministers welcomed opportunities to commemorate this milestone in 2025 in a befitting manner.

They looked forward to the next India-Australia Annual Summit in 2025.

JURY GRAND PRIZE FOR ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT, BEST YOUTH FILM TO BOONG AT 17th ASIA PACIFIC SCREEN AWARDS

GOLD Coast, Australia: Dea Kulumbegashvili’s April has had a stunning double win at the 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA). The gripping cinematic drama took home the APSA for Best Film, with the APSA for Best Performance going to Ia Sukhitashvili for her phenomenal portrayal of a Georgian Ob Gyn providing women’s health services.

Ia Sukhitashvili was at the prestigious APSA ceremony in Australia on Saturday night to accept both awards.

The event was held at The Langham, Gold Coast, on the traditional land of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh language region.

The international film event, held in strategic partnership with Jewel Private Residences, honours the cinematic excellence of 78 countries and areas of the Asia Pacific, and films that best reflect their cultural origins and the diversity of the vast region.

April is the second feature for Dea Kulumbegashvili, who was a recipient of an MPA APSA Academy Film Fund grant for early development of the film, which is produced

by David Zerat, Ilan Amouyal, Luca Guadagnino, Francesco Melzi d'Eril, Archil Gelovani, Gabriele Moratti and Alexandra Rossi.

In a particularly strong year for women’s stories, the International Jury awarded its Jury Grand Prize to All We Imagine as Light, the highly acclaimed second feature from India’s Payal Kapadia.

The Prize, selected at the discretion of the jury, was awarded to this story of two working-class nurses amidst the nocturnal landscape of Mumbai.

Best Youth Film also goes to a female director from India, Lakshmipriya Devi, and producers Alan McAlex, Vikesh Bhutani, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Shujaat Saudagar, for Boong, the heartwarming story of a young boy in remote Manipur who goes on an adventure to reunite his family.

The APSA for Best Animated Film has been won by The Missing (Iti Mapukpukaw, Philippines).

The film, a groundbreaking adult sci-fi animation, is a personal tale from director Carl Joseph Papa who accepted the award on the night.

Best Documentary Film at the 17th APSA has been won

by No Other Land (Palestine, Norway), directed as a group

by Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers Basel Adra, Rachel Szor, Hamdan Ballal and Yuval Abraham, and giving their perspective on the violence and destruction surrounding them. The film is currently in theatrical release in Australia and the UK. Georgian director Tato Kotetishvili was awarded the APSA for Best Director for his debut feature, the dark comedy Holy Electricity (Georgia, Netherlands), which sees cousins selling neon crucifixes door to door in Tbilisi, in a cinematic ode to the city and its people.

From Türkiye, the tense legal thriller Hesitation Wound (Tereddüt Çizgisi, Türkiye, Spain, Romania, France) has seen writer/ director Selman Nacar win the APSA for Best Screenplay for his second feature, the story of a fiercely intelligent female defence attorney facing mounting professional, personal and moral challenges.

Winning Best Cinematography is French cinematographer Michaël Capron (Blue Is the Warmest Colour) for Mongrel, the contemplative Taiwanese drama that puts the unseen life of an undocumented Thai carer in the spotlight.

New Zealand’s prolific producer, actor and APSA winner Cliff Curtis is the recipient of the prestigious FIAPF Award, determined

by APSA founding partner FIAPF–International Federation of Film Producers Associations, and awarded for outstanding achievement in film in the Asia Pacific region.

The three previously announced winners were all in attendance in Australia to accept their awards: Neo Sora received APSA’s Young Cinema Award in partnership with NETPAC for Happyend and Nepali director Min Bahadur Bham’s accepted the Cultural Diversity Award forShambhala. Georgia’s Data Chachua accepted his APSA for Best New Performer for Panopticon, a film which also stars APSA Best Performance winner Ia Sukhitashvili.

All three of these awards were presented by the soonto-launch Top 51 World Filmmakers Club, of which the three winners become members. A dynamic hub for creativity, encouraging innovative collaborations and cultural exchange among global filmmakers, the Top 51 World Filmmakers Club will be located on the 51st level of The Langham, Gold Coast, and will launch in early 2025.

Unprecedentedly, the winners of the 17th edition of APSA have been for films almost exclusively by first-

or second-time filmmakers.

Amongst some of the winners at the 17th APSA are renowned filmmakers mentoring this next generation, Luca Guadagnino for April and Hou Hsiao-hsienfor Mongrel, creating continuity, connection and growth for the region’s cinema. This is one of the aims of APSA – for its established and growing Academy, already comprising many of region’s leading auteurs and emerging talent, to help celebrate and amplify the talented creative voices of a new generation as they share their stories.

The 17th APSA International Jury was headed by President Pen-ek Ratanaruang (Thailand), one of Asia’s leading film directors and screenwriters, alongside Crazy Rich Asians star Chris Pang (Australia), Papua New Guinea and New Zealand producer Kerry Warkia,

Korean filmmaker, educator and policymaker Park Kiyong, and Kazakh producer Yuliya Kim. The APSA Youth, Animation, Documentary International Jury, determining the winners in those three categories, was led

by President of Italy’s Udine Far East Film Festival Sabrina Baracetti, joined by Japan and US-based producer Alex C Lo, Indonesian program director Gugi Gumilang and Australian actress Jillian Nguyen.

Also announced during the 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards Ceremony are the four recipients of the MPA APSA Academy Film Fund grants of US$25,000 wholly supported by the MPA (Motion Picture Association) Asia Pacific.

All APSA nominees, Nominations Councils and Jury members are inducted into the prestigious APSA Academy presided over by Australian screen legend Jack Thompson AM PhD. In 2024 the Academy will total more than 1,650 of the region's leading filmmakers.

THE Indian Senior Citizens Association’s Christmas Function, held at Runcorn State School was a heartwarming celebration of holiday cheer, community spirit, and cherished traditions. It brought together association members and friends from across the area to enjoy an afternoon filled with delicious food, entertainment, and goodwill.

Seniors and friends were delighted by the variety of entertainment, including dance performances by local Punjabi dance groups.

Local dignitaries also attended, including Councillor Kim Marx and Senator Paul Scarr, both spoke about the importance of celebrating the seniors in the community.

Health and Wellbeing: Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) – How Much Do You Know?

STIs, such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and syphilis, are on the rise in Australia, including in Queensland. For example, the most common bacterial STI, chlamydia, had 16,648 notifications in 2020 in Queensland, increasing to 19,361 in 2023. Similarly, gonorrhoea notifications increased from 4,884 in 2020 to 5,470 in 2023, and infectious syphilis cases rose from 737 to 1,026 during the same period (source: www. health.qld.gov.au).

If left untreated, these infections can cause serious health issues, including infertility (in both males and females), pelvic inflammatory disease, and ectopic pregnancy. In particular, syphilis can lead to longterm damage to the brain, heart, eyes, and nervous system. Pregnant women with syphilis are at risk of stillbirth, miscarriage, and passing on syphilis that can cause permanent damage to their babies, including blindness, deafness, and disability.

SYMPTOMS OF STIS Some individuals may experience symptoms such as: • Blisters, lumps, sores, or rashes in the genital area or inner thighs • Testicular pain (in males) • Lower abdominal pain, pain during or after sex, or bleeding between periods (in females)

• Unusual discharge or bleeding from the penis, vagina, or anus • Pain or difficulty when urinating However, many STIs are asymptomatic, making regular sexual health checks essential, especially if you: • Change sexual partners, particularly at the beginning or end of a relationship • Have had unprotected sex • Have multiple sexual partners SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR

PREGNANT WOMEN In Queensland all pregnant women undergo HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis testing at the start of pregnancy, even if they’ve had only one partner, to protect their health and prevent transmission to their baby. Retesting for syphilis is done at 26–28 weeks and again at 36 weeks gestation to avoid serious health issues for both mother and baby.

MPOX (MONKEYPOX) Mpox, another STI of concern, has seen rising

cases in Queensland, with 69 identified between January 1 and September 27 this year.

Hepatitis C - What is it, how can you get it and can it be cured?

HEPATITIS C is an infection caused by the hepatitis C virus. This virus like hepatitis B affects the liver and therefore, it is important to check if you have ever been infected.

HOW CAN YOU GET INFECTED WITH HEPATITIS C? Infections generally happen through contact with an infected person’s blood.

This includes through: • The use of unsterile medical/dental equipment – this is less likely in Australia due to strict infection control practices.

• The reuse of needles including those used for acupuncture, cosmetic procedures and injecting drug use.

• Tattooing where the ink and equipment may be contaminated with blood and the equipment is not sterilised – this includes cosmetic tattooing such as eyebrow tattooing.

• Sharing razors and other personal hygiene equipment

such as toothbrushes and nail clippers that may be infected with blood.

People living with hepatitis C generally will not know they have the infection until it starts to cause damage to their liver including cirrhosis and liver cancer – this can take many years. It is important to know that not all people are tested for hepatitis B or hepatitis C when they migrate to Australia. So, it is better to test for the virus through a simple specific blood test.

Vision Protects You: Embracing God’s Purpose for Your Life

Yet, in the midst of the noise, there is one essential truth that can transform how we live: vision protects us. It grounds us, refocuses our energy, and aligns our lives with a higher purpose. For those of us who seek to live a life aligned with God's will, understanding our vision is not just beneficial—it is essential.

The concept of vision is not just about setting goals or having dreams; it is deeply rooted in understanding God’s purpose for our lives.

As a leader, I've come to realise that a clear vision is what differentiates a life of fulfillment from one of aimless wandering. It is the compass that directs us, helping us avoid the temptation of trying to do everything at once.

VISION PROTECTS US FROM OVERCOMMITTING Many of us are guilty of overextending ourselves, trying to be everything to everyone. In our eagerness to prove our capabilities, we may end up participating in activities that, although well-intentioned, pull us away from our true calling.

But having a clear vision keeps us grounded. It helps us prioritise what truly matters, ensuring that our efforts align with our Godgiven mission.

Take the apostle Paul, for example. Although Paul had a deep love for the Jewish people—his own people— his vision was to preach the

gospel to the Gentiles. In his letter to Timothy, he clearly states, “For this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles” (1 Timothy 2:7).

Paul’s unwavering focus on his vision allowed him to fulfill his mission without getting sidetracked, even by causes that were close to his heart.

Paul’s vision was not only his guide but also his source of motivation: “I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome” (Romans 1:15).

He did not allow himself to be distracted by things that fell outside of his God-given assignment, even if they seemed good or noble on the surface.

KNOWING YOUR GIFTS AND STAYING WITHIN THEM One of the reasons we become overcommitted is that we try to do things outside of our unique gifts and calling. God has equipped each of us with specific talents and strengths to fulfill our personal visions. If we focus on tasks we are not gifted in, we risk depleting our energy, leaving us too exhausted to focus on what we are truly called to do.

This is where many people find themselves burnt out, because they have strayed from their core purpose.

Jesus Himself modeled this principle. Though He performed many miracles and served people in countless ways, He never

lost sight of His ultimate purpose. Even when one of His closest friends, Peter, tried to dissuade Him from His mission, Jesus stayed firm. When Peter said, “This shall never happen to you!” in response to Jesus speaking of His death (Matthew 16:22), Jesus corrected him. Although Peter’s intentions were good, they did not align with the vision Jesus was sent to fulfill.

This is a powerful lesson for us. Sometimes, even those closest to us may unintentionally steer us away from our vision. That’s why it’s so crucial to remain connected to God’s purpose and to seek His guidance continually.

THE TRANSFORMATION OF HEART AND MIND Living with a vision is not just about external actions; it involves a deep internal transformation. It changes the way we think, believe, and live. For those who are believers in Jesus Christ, our vision is ultimately rooted in our identity as

citizens of heaven. We are called to live in a way that reflects God’s reign on earth, allowing His principles to guide our actions and decisions.

This mindset shift is what allows us to live with true purpose. It’s not about accumulating wealth, fame, or success in the world’s eyes, but about aligning our lives with God's eternal plan. The kingdom of God is not merely a distant future reality; it is a present-day calling that impacts every aspect of our lives. It is about letting God reign in our hearts and letting His love flow through our actions.

LIVING OUT GOD’S VISION IN EVERYDAY LIFE How can we put this into practice? Here are a few practical steps: • Spend Time in Prayer and Reflection: Regularly seek God's guidance to understand His vision for your life. Spend time in prayer, asking for clarity and discernment.

• Identify Your Unique Gifts: Reflect on the talents and passions God has given you. How can you use these gifts to serve others and fulfill your vision?

• Stay Focused on Your Mission: Once you have clarity on your vision, resist the temptation to take on activities that do not align with it. Saying “no” can be challenging, but it’s necessary to protect your purpose.

• Surround Yourself with Supportive People: Be intentional about building a community of like-minded individuals who will encourage you to stay true to your vision. Their support will help you stay on course when challenges arise.

• Trust in God’s Timing: Remember that fulfilling your vision is a journey, not a race. Trust in God's timing and remain faithful in your efforts, even when results are not immediately visible.

CONCLUSION Vision is not just a plan; it is a divine calling that protects and guides us. By aligning our actions with God’s purpose, we find fulfillment and joy, even amidst life’s challenges. THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS

When Jesus was born, an angel appeared to some shepherds and told them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people, for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, Call: (07) 3189 6535

Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

When Jesus was on earth, He became a light to everyone who came across Him. He came to offer us a way to have a personal relationship with God, and He let His light shine brightly everywhere He went.

In the scriptures we read (Luke 1v78-79), "Our God is merciful and tender.

He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us.

And to shine from heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death,

In Matthew, chapter 5 it reminds us that Christians are the world's light. As believers, Jesus lives inside us so we can shine the light of His love on everyone around us. Weather at work, in the mall, and even among friends and family members who don't have a relationship with God.

Jesus truly loved people, and they felt better after spending time with Him. They found in Jesus that He listened to them, had compassion for them, healed them, and brought joy and life to each situation.

HERE ARE SOME WAYS WE CAN DO SO THIS CHRISTMAS. 4 Choose to be happy and full of joy everywhere you go.

4 Take time to reach out to someone who seems lonely or is going through a difficult time at work.

4 Send a message to someone, that you are thinking of them and praying for them.

4 Surprise your neighbour or someone you know who is struggling with a gift to make their Christmas more special.

during this special season, you can use your gifts, time, resources, and talents to share that light and serve and brighten someone else's life.

We are all busy with so many responsibilities, yet we can share the love of Jesus with someone. For some of us, it could mean wearing a smile or brightening someone's day with a laugh.

But perhaps this season, you may be the one who is going through a difficult time with your finances, health, relationships, etc. Then, it's best to spend time with Jesus and allow Him to strengthen you. A simple prayer could look like, "Dear Heavenly Father, by faith, I place all my fears, worries, and difficulties into your hands. I believe you are more powerful than all the opposition I am facing now, and you can do anything and everything."

Then, move forward and

make someone else's day. It is easy to turn inward and shut down, especially during a painful time. This is what the enemy wants you to do, but one of the best things you can do is to reach out and help someone else. The scripture says what you make happen for others. God sees that, and in return, He will bless your life, where you will feel His presence, joy, and strength in an even more excellent way.

After all, this is what Christmas is all about. Just as Jesus came to love and serve all of us by giving us the greatest gift, His very life, we can give of ourselves because His life and light dwell inside us. It's our time to shine!

Guru Govind Singh GURU Govind Singh was the tenth and final human guru of Sikhs. He declared Guru Granth Sahib as the central holy scripture of Sikhism and established a new system for initiation and customs that Sikhs follow. He converted his disciples into a fighting force to protect themselves and their community.

Early life - Govind Singh was born in Patna Bihar to mother Mata Gujari on the 7th day of the bright fortnight in the Poush month, Vikram Samvat 1723. This date corresponds to 1st January 1667 of the Gregorian calendar according to the Drik Panchang. He was the only son of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth guru.

His childhood name was Govind Rai. The Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara in Patna memorialises his birthplace.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was on an expedition to eastern India. His wife Mata Gujari was in an advanced stage of pregnancy. Considering her condition, Mata Gujari had stayed in Patna while the Guru travelled further east. On his return journey, the Guru stopped in Patna to meet his newborn son and then he travelled to Anandpur in the Punjab, where he had his permanent residence.

Govind Rai remained in Patna for around five years and was brought up under the care of his mother, grandmother and maternal uncle Kirpal Chand. Then he along with the family moved from Patna to Anandpur to reside with his father.

At the age of seven, he was placed under the guidance of Sahib Chand Granthi to learn Gurmukhi.

In a short period, he learnt the Adi Granth. The same year, Qazi Pir Mohammad taught him Persian, and an expert was entrusted to teach him horsemanship and the handling of weapons.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was a spiritual teacher.

People visited him for guidance and help. During this period, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb was forcibly converting Hindus into Islam and destroying temples and other places of worship. Under his rule, the majority of the Hindu population in Kashmir had converted to Islam. A group of Kashmiri Pandits came to the Guru for assistance against forcible conversion.

Guru Tegh Bahadur opposed the forced conversions of Kashmiri Pandits and non-Muslims to Islam. For taking up their cause, the Guru was arrested and presented to the emperor who tried to convince him to convert to Islam. On his refusal, he was publicly beheaded in Chandani Chauk. The Gurudwara Shish Ganj in Chandani Chauk Delhi is built over the place of his beheading.

Following the completion

of the funeral rites for his father, Govind Rai was formally installed on the Gaddi of Guru on Baishakhi, 29 March 1676.

Constructive Work Soon after his consecration, his advisers suggested him to organise a campaign to wreak vengeance on Aurangzeb. However, he prioritised nurturing and strengthening the feeling of resistance to authority in the minds of his people and making them selfrespecting and self-reliant.

He realised that many ills that the Hindu community suffered came not from without but from within.

Their social fabric was not based on sound principles.

Their religious convictions were not strong. Most of them were absorbed only in personal gains and had no consideration for the community.

In this context, he did not entertain the proposal for war and commenced constructive works.

He spent time on cultural development. He engaged scholars in preparing vernacular editions of his preferred Sanskrit texts. He attended prayer meetings in Gurudwaras and recited Katha from Granth Sahib as well as from the Ramayan, Mahabharat and Purans to inspire his audience.

He was a great patron of learning and wished his people to become familiar with the knowledge and wisdom available in Sanskrit books. Scholars were employed to teach Sanskrit to his disciples.

When one instructor realised that the students were from lower castes, he declined to teach them. Then the Guru sent five promising youths to Varanasi where they acquired competency in Sanskrit. After several years, they returned well qualified and performed a great service in training the Sikhs. They were honoured with the title of Nirmala, pure one.

Masands acted as a representative of the guru and over time had become very oppressive.

Guru Govind Singh became aware of masands’ repugnant behaviour and abolished the order of masand. He forbade his followers to have any relation with them.

Guru Govind Singh had three wives. He married his first wife Jeeto Ji in 1677.

The couple had three sons named Jujhar Singh born in 1691, Zorawar Singh born in 1696 and Fateh Singh born in 1699. He married his second wife Sundari Devi in 1684. Ajit Singh was born from this union in 1687.

The Guru married Sahib Devi in 1700. He claimed that he maintained a purely spiritual relationship with his last wife.

Guru Govind Singh lived at Paonta, now an industrial town in Himachal Pradesh, at the request of the king of Nahan. The Guru had founded the town on the king’s territory. He had

helped the king to resolve a border dispute with a neighboring king. His son Ajit Singh was born in Paonta. The Guru wrote Sikh religious books during his stay there. After some years, he returned to Anandpur.

Khalsa Govind Singh sought to organise his followers, who were scattered far and wide and belonged to various castes.

He wished to inspire his people with the feeling of love, masculinity and sacrifice for a common cause.

He witnessed a ceremony where people were told that the goddess would emerge from the Havan fire. When this did not transpire, the presiding priest stated She would appear when the Guru sacrificed a sacred person. It became clear that the most sacred person was the priest himself. Sensing the public view that he might be sacrificed, the priest fled from the site.

Guru considered the whole episode absurd. He became sad and withdrawn due to prevailing superstitions among masses, and stayed in seclusion for some time.

People believed he was in communion with God. After emerging from his stupor, the Guru appeared before his followers with a sword at Anandpur on Baishakhi day in 1699. He declared that the goddess had appeared to him and asked if anyone was prepared to sacrifice their life at the altar for the Guru and community. One volunteer named Daya Ram stood up and offered his head. The Guru took him to the adjoining tent. His sword apparently slashed Daya Ram’s head and blood streamed out. The Guru came out with a bloodied sword and demanded other heads for sacrifice. Dharma a Jat, Himmat a water

carrier, Sahiba a Barber and Mokham a washerman offered themselves one by one. They followed a similar fate. A few minutes later, all five volunteers reappeared from the tent. The Guru followed and seated them on the stage. They were called the Panj Pyare, the five beloved in the Sikh tradition. Guru had killed goats instead of human volunteers.

He then mixed water and sugar in an iron bowl stirring it with a double-edged sword. The sweetened water known as Amrit or sacred water was administered to the five Pyare, accompanied with recitations from Adi Granth. Then they all took Karah Parshad, a cooked sweetened food of flour, sugar, ghee and water from the same vessel and thus renounced caste prejudice.

The Guru gave them a new surname of Singh, lion.

Once the first five Khalsa, or Pure, had been initiated, the Guru asked them to initiate him as a Khalsa. This made the Guru the sixth Khalsa. His name changed from Guru Govind Rai to Guru Govind Singh.

He asked them to remember that henceforward they were all brothers and members of one religious group called Khalsa. They were to wear garments suited to a life of a soldier and possess five items identified with first starting the letter K of the Hindi alphabet. That included Kesh, the unshorn hair and beard; Kanghi, a comb in the hair; Kara, steel bangle on the right wrist; Kachchha, short drawers; and Kirpan, steel dagger.

They were to abhor tobacco and intoxicants in any form.

The initiated Khalsa were to regard him as their spiritual father and his wife Sahib Devi as their mother.

Wars – Guru Govind

Singh fought over twenty battles against enemies during the period from 1682 to 1707. He had trained his disciples in the art of war and had set up weapons manufacturing units. His army was a formidable force in the region. His soldiers belonged to diverse castes, lived together and ate from a common kitchen.

Local kings disliked these practices out of jealousy and superstitious belief.

The Nawab of Sirhind, which was the provincial capital of the region, ruled Eastern Punjab. The kings collaborated with the Nawab to suppress Guru’s actions. They encouraged the Nawab to demand more tax from the Guru and complained about his activities. In many battles the Guru’s army emerged victorious against kings and Nawab forces. Sometimes both armies jointly attacked the Guru’s soldiers.

During the battle of Anandpur in 1704, the Mughal army attacked Anandpur. The Mughal general was fatally wounded. The governor of Sirhind sent a larger army and laid siege of the town. Eventually, the Guru, his family and followers accepted an offer of safe passage out of Anandpur. As they left Anandpur in two batches, they were attacked from behind. Mata Gujari and Guru’s two younger sons were taken captive by the Mughal army. Both children were executed by being buried alive into a wall when they refused to convert to Islam. Their grandmother Mata Gujari died on hearing this news.

Guru Govind Singh with his elder sons and around a hundred men reached Chamkaur. During their movement, they were also attacked from behind and later the enemy surrounded them in Chamkaur. In a fierce battle, the Guru’s two elder sons, Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh were killed. The Guru with his three attendants escaped and travelled towards the Malwa region. En route, he met supporters who took care of him. When the threat of pursuit from enemy forces was over, he travelled to villages, promoting principles of fellowhood and sacrifice.

Soon he had established a regular fighting force for service in an emergency.

Guru Govind Singh wrote a letter known as Zafarnama to Aurangzeb, reminding him how he and his soldiers had broken their oaths sworn upon the Koran. They had promised a safe passage to the Guru and his supporters but launched a hidden attack using a large army on his famished Sikh soldiers.

In 1705, the Mughal army re-attacked the Guru’s army in Khidrana ki Dhab.

The attackers were repelled but many Sikhs lost their lives. This included the forty Sikhs who had left Anandpur during its siege

but joined the Guru during his visit in Malwa. The Guru had pardoned them for deserting him earlier and hence they were called liberated. Maharaja Ranjit Singh renamed Khidrana to Mukt-sar, the tank of deliverance in honor of those who died for the cause of liberation.

Post war - In response to the Guru’s letter, Aurangzeb sent orders to his officials in the Punjab to stop persecuting the Guru and allow him to reside peacefully where it suited him. He also sent an invitation to the Guru asking him to come and make amends for earlier events.

The Guru accepted the invitation and started for Deccan where Aurangzeb was engaged in suppressing rebellions. On the way, he was informed of Aurangzeb’s demise. During the war between Aurangzeb’s sons for throne, the Guru lent support to Bahadur Shah on his request. With the Guru’s help, Bahadur Shah emerged victorious and was declared emperor.

Bahadur Shah invited Guru Govind Singh with his army to meet him in person in the Deccan region for a reconciliation talk. The Guru travelled south and stayed at Nanded, a town on the banks of River Godavari.

Bahadur Shah offered promises to him however they were not fulfilled.

In Nanded, the Guru met an ascetic named Madho Das Bairagi, who became his disciple.

Following initiation, he was given a new name of Gurbaksh Singh but was popularly known as Banda Singh Bahadur.

Guru Govind Singh sent Banda to Punjab with the goal of ending the cruelty of Punjab rulers.

Banda defeated the Mughals in the Punjab and freed a large tract from them.

One day, when the Guru was delivering a lecture to his congregation in Nanded, a Pathan in disguise stabbed him. The Guru fought back and killed the assassin, while the Sikh guards killed his companion as he tried to escape. The Guru died of his wounds a few days later on 7 October 1708. His body was cremated and ashes buried at a spot where Gurudwara Hazur Sahib is located.

Guru Govind Singh was a warrior and writer. He finalized the manuscript of Guru Granth Sahib, the main scripture of Sikh religion.

He declared this book to be the eternal Guru for all Sikhs. He wrote the Dasam Granth, which is considered to be the second scripture.

The Dasam Granth includes hymns, mythological tales and celebration of goddess Durga, and stories from the Purans and the Mahabharat. Parts of its composition such as Jap Sahib, Benti Chaupaee, Nitnem and sacred verses are used in the initiation of Khalsa Sikhs.

All are not healthy in Paradise Fiji I say this as within the Itaukei -traditional Fijians ,(62%of the population ) or Indo Fijian ( 34% of the population) diabetes in both men and women is amongst the highest in the world , there is much obesity (40% adult women and 30% adult men ), prostate cancer is the biggest killer of men, other cancers for women and the excessive drinking of Kava, the traditional Fijian drink of hospitality and communal bonding, is leading to domestic violence and the breakdown of families. There are also concerns about the health of children who are not getting an adequate healthy diet On my last visit to Fiji in September of this year to Lautoka I met a Filipino female dentist and in Sigatoka an Indo Fijian Church Pastor who both expressed concerns about the health of the people that they were meeting.

The dentist said that in the villages in which she held regular dental and health clinics, the lack of finance meant that villagers would, at times do not eat healthily and have a diet of noodles, bread and cheap sweet, canned drinks. A problem was that they were not growing or eating many vegetables. As a result, both the parents and the children had bad teeth. The dentist should know about these health problems as,

One thing she noticed was that it was mainly women and children were in attendance at their night clinics as, sadly the men, who probably needed the most treatment were too busy drinking Kava.

also seen declining health in many overweight people he had met in both nearby villages and Sigatoka, as a result of a diet Indians love that is high in sugar, salt and oil.

Both the dentist and the Pastor also noticed that other problems were that people were neither exercising, as they were too lazy, or also not eating

traditional healthy foods.

Those in Sigatoka were often choosing fast food ‘take aways” rather than cooking at home They said that “It seems that People are over eating like there is no tomorrow!”

When I was at a Church lunch in Sigatoka, I was amazed how much food that both and men and women ate that was quite unhealthy!

In response to these health concerns, this Christmas both the dentist and the Pastor are going to give out food parcels of value Aus $ 60 to needy families, containing flour, rice, oil, sardines dhal milk and washing soap for clothes.

That is a great, practical response to a community health problem.

So, what can we learn

from this in Brisbane as we approach the long, hot Christmas summer season?

Simply don’t over eat or drink this summer but eat healthily, with plenty of vegetables, fruit, water and limit those Christmas foods high in oil, sugar and salt.

Above all, don’t get lazy and overweight in the summer heat but do some regular exercise with a friend.

I certainly will be eating healthily and exercising regularly over Christmas getting ready for the challenges of 2025 and a return trip to Fiji in February.

Prakrti Tattva and Oṋḿkára Tattva

PRA karoti iti Prakrti, that is Prakrti means the force creating objects. It is on account of Prakrti alone that the existence of humans and animals, of plants and matter is appreciated within the eternal, infinite and perfect Brahma. In other words, the Cosmic Force responsible for the creation of this world abounding in varieties and kinds is called Prakrti.

Puruśa is only consciousness and in absence of the creative force, it has no manifestation. The presence of this cosmic force or Prakrti is indispensable everywhere within the bounds of the creation, i.e., for creation, sustenance and destruction. The word Prakrti is not equivalent to the word nature of the English language. As a matter of fact, nature is the property or Dharma of Prakrti. Whatever Prakrti does is commonly known as nature.

Puruśa is only Consciousness, Puruśa is the all-knowing entity and the entity that witnesses whatever Prakrti does.

Prakrti is unmanifested where Consciousness or Puruśa is dominant – the creative force in that state remains suspended within the scope of Consciousness.

Prakrti comprises a set of three attributes. It is significant that she has not been termed an aggregate of the three attributes, since Prakrti is the term meant to connote all the three attributes together or a state combining them all. These three attributes are termed Sattva or sentient, Rajah or mutative, and Tamah or static according to the manifestations.

Now, the question arises as to what does the word “attribute” signify? Does attribute or guńa connote the word “quality?” No, it does not. The plain philosophic meaning of “guńa” is a binding string – a string used to bind some objects. Here, “guńa” connotes the Cosmic Force whereby the Universal Consciousness is bound to various shapes or ideas. In English the word “tendency” may also be used to express the spirit of “guńa”.

Where Prakrti is dormant there is no knowledge of the “I” feeling as the object of Consciousness, neither is there any mental vibration. Wherever the consciousness is influenced or bound by Prakrti’s sattvaguńa, the sense of “I” feeling, or “I am”, is created. By the property or dharma of sattvaguńa the universal Cosmic Consciousness becomes circumscribed or shaped into the knowledge of existence of the “I” feeling. When the Consciousness becomes bound by name and form, philosophically referred to as Mahattattva, it naturally appears to be different from its original standard.

Ordinarily, none of the guńas of the active Prakrti occurs singly. Wherever sattvaguńa occurs the possibility of the occurrence of rajah and tamah cannot be excluded.

This is further clarified hereafter.

The ultimate resultant stage or the static state is the characteristic of tamoguńa. The performance of an act must precede its result. This performance of an act or activity is the property of rajoguńa. Hence, rajoguńa must inevitably exist wherever there is tamoguńa. For the performance of the act the sense of “I” feeling, feeling of existence, must exist, otherwise who will perform the act in the absence of the “I”? Previously I said that the characteristic of sattvaguńa is to impart the knowledge of existence. Similarly, wherever rajoguńa exists, sattvaguńa must be there. Wherever sattvaguńa exists, the possibility of co-existence of rajoguńa or tamoguńa is there whether they manifest themselves or not. Furthermore, wherever tamoguńa exists, sattvaguńa and rajoguńa must also invariably co-exist. Wherever there is rajoguńa, sattvaguńa must also be there.

The characteristics of sattvaguńa are knowledge of existence, and imparting happiness and a sense of relief. rajoguńa is characterized by action designed to keep the “I” busy with some act, and the characteristic of tamoguńa is to get the result or to enjoy the resultant shape.

It is important to note that sattvaguńa does not denote inactivity since inactivity is the result of tamaguńa.

Inactivity means the tranquillity of death, not the sobriety of knowledge. In every matter of the world, there is an incessant struggle going on between rajoguńa and tamoguńa. So long as rajoguńa prevails, there is the graceful lustre of sattvaguńa. Look at a bud. So long as it is blossoming, you will find that it is gradually blooming and the victory of rajoguńa in the struggle with tamoguńa is manifested in the graceful lustre of sattvaguńa. But when the force of rajoguńa is spent, then [[tamoguńa predominates every moment. The flower gradually withers and fades, the glow of sattva wanes and eventually , the alldevouring hunger of]] tamoguńa transforms it into a state of crudeness, that is to say, it dies. In transformation from a sprout to a blade and from a blade to a leaf and then to autumn defoliation, from infancy into youth and from youth declining to old age the struggle between rajoguńa and tamoguńa is uniquely manifested. This is the struggle of the creator and the destroyer, of Hari and Hara.

The mind is formed due to the influence of Prakrti over Puruśa. The characteristic of the mind is to think. When the mind goes from subtleness to crudeness and gets engrossed in material objects, the process is termed mental detraction or saiṋcara kriyá. When the mind passes from material objects to subtleness it merges into the Cosmic

“I” feeling and the process is termed mental attraction or pratisaiṋcara. Saiṋcara is principally guided by tamoguńa and pratisaiṋcara by sattvguńa. Saiṋcara tends to create static feelings while pratisaiṋcara promotes cosmic feelings.

But the Cosmic Consciousness unaffected by the detraction and attraction (saiṋcara and practisaiṋcara) processes from the nucleus of the cycle of thoughtwaves is the knower “I” ((Átman). This cycle of thoughtwave is His object, in other words, it is He alone who is thinking. This world of varieties or paiṋcabhúta is the expression of the stage of maximum detraction of the Cosmic Mind formed by the influence of Prakrti over Cosmic Consciousness, Puruśa is Nirguńa where the attraction and detraction processes do not go on making Puruśa as the nucleus. Those who call Prakrti delusion or illusion are mistaken. If Prakrti is an illusion, how do perceptions occur? The imagined object may be unreal but the fact that imagination has been done is real.

Ya eko jálavániishata iishaniibhih Sarvánalokániishata iishaniibhih.

Ya evaeka udbhave sambhave ca Ya etadviduramrtáste bhavanti.

Behind this world’s creation, there is a cosmic magician who has created the universe and also controls it. In fact, whatever has been or shall be created is He and He alone.

Those who have realized this truth attain blessedness.

Eko hi rudro na dvitiiyáya tasthúrya Imánllokániishata iishaniibhih.

Pratyaḿjanáḿtith́ ate saḿcukopántakakále Saḿsrjya vishvá bhuvanáni gopáh.

“There is only the Supreme Brahma and no other entity.

He controls this perceptible world through His Prakrti and at the time of universal annihilation, the entire creation merges in Him. He is concealing Himself in His own created universe.”

The all-knowing entity is called imperishable Consciousness or Akśara-Puruśa because He has not been degraded from His original. He is undecaying and infallible.

During the detraction and attraction processes that part of Puruśa which is transformed is known as Kśar Puruśa or the perishable entity. Kśar Puruśa is transformed when it becomes the object of the knowing entity or mind which is called Jiṋátá Puruśa. If we consider the unit consciousness imperishable and the unit mind perishable, then Saguńa Brahma will have to be regarded as collectively perishable and collectively imperishable. It is only the creation of the rollicksome Prakrti behind transformation of the collective mind into unit and behind the unit consciousness as the

knowing entity of the unit in its totality.

Sarvarúpamayii devii sarvaḿ devii mayaḿjagat, Tato’ham vishvarúpáḿ táḿ namámi Parameshvariim.

–Márkańdeya Puráńa “This Universe is in the form of Devii or Prakrti alone.

Whatever is visible in the universe is composed of Devii. I bow down to the Devii assuming the image of the universe, the Mother of the universe.”

The question may arise, how was this Prakrti created?

Prakrti is the creator of the mind, that is to say, the mind has been formed by the influence of Prakrti over Puruśa.

The mind has the property to have the knowledge of time, and there can be no comprehension of time without mind.

The mind, which measures and creates time has been created by Prakrti alone, and hence is beyond and above the ambit of time. She is eternal and unborn.

Ajámekáḿ lohitashukla Krśnáḿ Bahviih prajáh srjamáḿáḿ svarúpám.

Ajohyeko juśamánonuśhete Jahátyeńáḿ bluktabhogámajo’nyah (Shruti).

Prakrti herself is unborn. Prakrti, the all-creative and constructive force has no progenitor. She is composed of three colours – red, white, and black. Sattvaguńa is white, rajoguńa is red and tamoguńa is black. In the human body these colours come into play according to different varieties of tendencies. The colour of a person is according to his or her tendency. It should be remembered that the colour pertains to the mind and not to the physical body. This natural classification has no connection with the caste system founded in ancient times by those interested in privilege or prestige on the basis of being born into particular families. It has already been said that the attraction towards Brahma or pratisaiṋcara is chiefly predominated by sattvaguńa and the detraction from Brahma or saiṋcara is predominated by tamoguńa. The attraction process leads a living being to the realization of its self and ultimately merges the mahattattva of the unit mind into the Mahattattva of the universal mind. It is for this reason that persons endowed with introversive vision advance unobstructed towards the realization of Self and take the shelter of sattvaguńa. In the initial phase they find that their mental horizon becomes increasingly radiant with dispassion and a resplendent flood of light.

This internal purity becomes apparent in their external activities also. Hence, people with sáttvika propensities cannot conceal themselves. Similarly, persons of rájasika and támasika propensities cannot conceal themselves from CONTD. ON PG 27

the common people. When a person of rájasika propensity inclines towards tamah, the former’s characteristic blood red colour deepens and becomes dark. Similarly, when a person of rájasika tendency inclines towards sattva the same redness changes into refulgent white.

In Nirguńa Brahma, which is the sublimest attainment of Sádhaná, Prakrti remains dormant.

Hence, Nirguńa Brahma is without characteristics and those who aspire in that direction should also discard all attributes both external and internal. It is for this reason that the followers of Ananda Marga have no caste.

They do not acknowledge the baneful and delusory classifications created by society. Those classifications, either directly or indirectly, contribute to propagation of the tamoguńa attribute which then speeds unhampered in the innermost recesses of the heart.

Varńáshramábhimánena shrutidásye bhavennarah Varńáshramvihiinashca vartate shrutimúdrańi.

Caste vanity makes human beings slaves of the scriptures and they become dominated by the three guńas.

It is only the renouncers of caste who attain the sublimest position, above the scope of the scriptures.

O children of Á nanda Márga, you have to rise above the caste-differentiations and attain a state beyond the attributes. You must not aspire to be the white-coloured vipra, the blood-red-coloured Kśatriya, the blood-andblack-coloured, i.e., yellow-coloured vaeshya or the darkcoloured shúdra. You have to rise above all these. To attain the state beyond the attributes, you have to meditate on Puruśa, reflect on your universality and know your original form. In the beginning, you have to become the whitecoloured vipra. Then you will have to shake off the vipra feeling and finally merge into the Cosmic Consciousness which is free from all colours.

Daevii hyeśá guńamayii mama Máyá duratyayá; Mámeva ye prapadyante Máyámetáḿ taranti te.(1) “My divine Máyá, the Supreme Máyá or Cosmic Force composed of three attributes – ordinarily it is very difficult to transcend these attributes; however, those who merge themselves in Me or take refuge in Me can transcend Prakrti.”

When He draws the universe by His act of attraction towards Himself i.e., pratisaiṋcara, Brahma causes the emancipation of the living beings. It is evident that He does this with the aid of Prakrti through sattvaguńa. Hence, the fact that Prakrti contributes to emancipation is an admitted truth. Nonetheless, living beings have to devote themselves to Puruśa rather than to Prakrti, in as much as they have to establish themselves in Cosmic Consciousness throughout eternity and acquire the Nirguńa state. Their ultimate goal is the blissful Cosmic Consciousness, which is above the influence of Prakrti, imperishable and irreducible. The living being who is under the bondage of Prakrti cannot attain that state. For this reason the tantra sáhdhaka implores: Tvaḿ Vaesńavii shaktiranataviiroyá Vishvasya bijam paramási máyá Sammohitaḿ devii samstametad Tvam vae prasanná bhúvi muktihetuh.

“O Prakrti, thou art never-ending. Viśnumáyá, thou art the seed of the universe, thou art the cause of the universe, thou art the supreme máyá and the supreme cosmic force, thou hast hypnotized the creation and kept it under the clutches of the páshas and ripu’s. The gate of emancipation opens only when thou art merciful.”

This is why I said earlier that spiritual aspiration is to be directed to the Cosmic Consciousness, rather than to Prakrti. To aspire towards Prakrti inclines one towards crudeness. Selfish efforts in pursuit of mean “I”-ness imperceptibly tightens the páshas.

There is no balance of forces in manifested Prakrti.

The incessant struggle between creation and destruction leads to the creation of generative forces, and the skeleton of destruction is being permeated with the vibration of new lives. It is not proper to consider Prakrti the enemy of humanity. By properly employing the three attributes, humans can come to know virtue, truth and perfection.

They can elevate their mental horizons with the aid of the sattvaguńa of Prakrti, which operates in the attraction process of Brahma. Is it not true that Prakrti is benevolent?

To find fault with Prakrti without following spiritual practices betrays inactivity which should not be supported.

Are Prakrti and Puruśa two independent entities?

No, certainly not. To make these concepts intelligible in a philosophical discourse such as this the two terms are employed separately. However, in reality they are not only inseparably related but are interdependent just like milk and its whiteness or like fire and its consuming power.

In the course of sádhaná, when the aspirant finds Prakrti receding into Puruśa, then he or she comes to himself or herself. So long as the aspirant entertains any distinction between Puruśa and Prakrti and consequently between Brahma and self, he or she tries in vain to attain bliss and becomes more and more entangled in the web of saḿskáras.

Satyaloke Nirákárá mahájyotisvarúpińii Máyaccháditátmánaḿ canakákararúpińii Máyábalkalaḿ saḿtyajya dvidhábhinnáyadommukhii Shivashaktivibhágena jáyate srśtikalpaná.

the mystery of Puruśa and Prakrti is evident in this diverse universe. [[The more you go ahead in your sadhana of Puruśa,]] the more you will observe that in the surrendered state, the Cosmic Force gets merged in you. In the state of kaevalya (oneness) the two entities are not distinctly or separately available.

Tvameko dvitvamápanno Shivashaktivibhágashah.

“In fact thou are one and only one. Thou art being manifest in these two objects.”

This crude and subtle universe has originated from the thought-waves of the universal mind, which itself was created by the Prakrti of the universal Puruśa.

The nucleus of these thought-waves is the universal, undecaying Consciousness, the central source of all enlightenment. This consciousness has taken His thought-wave as the object of His mind. However, because there is nothing outside His infinite and limitless form, Prakrti cannot endow him with any organs (indrya), nor can she set any limit of time, space and person. For the One beyond whom there is nothing, the question of receiving or generating tammátras (waves) does not arise.

Apánipádo javano grahiitá Pashyatyacakśuh sa shrńotyakarńah, Sa vetti vedyaḿna ca tasyásti vettá Tamáhuragryaḿ puruśaḿ mahántam.

–Shruti * * * Shrotrasya shortram manaso mano Yad vácá hi vácy sa u práńasya práńah, Cakśuśashcakśuratimucya dhiiráh Pretyaśmánllokádamrtáh bhavanti.

–Shruti * * * Yanmanasána manute yenáhurmano mataḿ Tadeva Brahma taḿ viddhi nedam yadidamupásate –Shruti * * * Yaccakśusá na pashyati yena cakśúḿsi pashyati Tadeva Brahma taḿ viddhi nedam yadidamupasate.

–Shruti With the help of Prakrti’s sattvaguńa, the aspirant can gain access into the universal, imperishable consciousness.

When his or her mind merges in universal mind, this state is called “savikalpa samádhi”. According to natural principles, if the aspirant takes something limited and perishable as the object of his or her attainment and adopts it as the goal of their life, they unconsciously proceed toward tamoguńa – toward crudeness, and eventually towards animality.

Tamoguńa alone is crudeness, and rajoguńa can be called dynamism, and sattvaguńa the harmonious enlightenment.

It has been said above that ordinarily all the three attributes operate together in everything, although in varying proportions. Those things where sattvaguńa predominates are called “sattvika”, those where rajoguńa dominates are called “rájasika”, and those where tamoguńa is dominate are called “támasika”. Irrespective of which attribute predominates in a particular object, the different living beings take that same object in different lights according to the differences in place and time. For instance, the same aspect of the world in the same circumstances is pleasing to some, displeasing to others and indifferent to the rest.

Suppose a person endowed with sattvaguńa is employed by the state as a judge or magistrate, then he/ she is a sattvika person and loved by the peace-loving citizens. For persons of wicked nature he/she is undesirable and therefore unpopular. And the same employee is rajoguńii for the people outside his/her jurisdiction and is therefore, looked upon with indifference. A beautiful woman is the beloved of her husband, indifferent for others and undesirable for a co-wife.

A sattvaguńii person always finds sattvaguńa in everything. Similarly, a rajoguńii finds rajoguńah, and a tamoguńii finds tamoguńa. On visiting Káshi a righteous person shall associate with the sages and saints on the bank of the Ganges and will find Káshi to be the most sacred place. A tourist will go round the city and find it a city like all others, while a cheat will find this city a proper place for his operations. The same city is visualised in three different ways by three persons according to their respective temperaments.

You must constantly bear in mind that you have to advance internally by fighting against the tamoguńii crudeness with the aid of sattvaguńa. To constantly advance, you must keep yourself aloof from the forces of mental distraction, because these distraction-forces will throw you out towards the tumult of crudeness.

Átmasthitam Shivaḿ tyaktvá vahisthaḿ yah samarcayet; Hastasthaḿ pińd́ amutsrjya bhramate jiivitáshayá.

–Shiva Saḿhitá * * * Idaḿ tiirthamidaḿ tiirthaḿ bhramanti támasá janáh; Átmatiirthaḿ na jánanti kathaḿ mokśo baráńane.

–Tantra Do not be extroversial, do not go ahead towards your own destruction since once you have fallen into the grip of crudeness it is well-nigh impossible to get released from it.

The abyss shall devour you and you, shall miss the pole star of your life. The idolators inadvertently adore tamoguńa.

Brahma is omnipresent and shines forth in the interior and exterior of living beings. The idolators forget Brahma and mistake a small external image as the adored object of their

life. Their mind catches the shade of that image, and they hear hallucinatory voices according to their saḿskáras and mistakenly consider that they have attained their goal.

The devotees of idols gradually deteriorate both mentally and physically to tamah. They become incapable of tolerating any progressive ideal. Both the active propensity of rajoguńa and the pure knowledge of sattvaguńa are intolerable to them. They wish to set back the hands of the clock, and this love for tradition is but a sign of their crudeness. Vyásadeva, the author of Puráńas has written: Rápam rúpavivarjiitasya bhavato yadhyánena kalpitaḿ Stutyánirvacaniiyatákhiloguro dúriikrtá yammayá.

Vyápiitvam ca nirákrtaḿ bhagavato yat tiirthayátrádiná Kśantavyam jagadiisha tadvikalatádosatrayaḿmatkrt aḿ.

“Thou hast no form. I have attempted to reduce Thee by giving Thee a form. By propagating the importance of holy lands, I tried to limit Thy all-pervasiveness. Through prayers I have tried to limit in words Thy incomprehensiveness. O Lord, may you pardon these three lapses of mine cause by mental disquietitude.”

Prakrti infuses guńa into Puruśa and gives Him a form. This act of infusion of guńa causes vibration in the body of Puruśa, since wherever there is an action there is vibration. Hence, under the influence of Prakrti, the body of he Puruśa or the changeable self or Saguńa experiences constant vibrations. It is an external, unprecedented, supra-universal and stupefying vibration. Everyone knows that it is the difference of the wave lengths in the vibrations which generate the relative tanmátras or perception-waves, i.e. sound, touch, vision, taste and smell. The sense organs, or jiṋánendriyas, of the living being perceive the tammátras from the external world or Cosmic mind, and the unit mind expresses these tammátras with the help of the motor organs or karmendriyas. This variation in vibration is responsible for the generation of white colour by sattvaguńa, red colour by rajoguńa and dark colour by tamoguńa. The greater the degree of crudeness, the lesser is the force of vibration. It is for this reason that tamoguńa is coloured black. Black is no colour. In fact, the perception of black colour is due to the absence of all colours. White, on the other hand, is the combination of all colours. Where there is perfect enlightenment, the white colour of sattvaguńa is most fully expressed. The subtlest tanmátra which is created by vibration is the sound tanmátra. Oṋḿkára is the sound tanmátra that is created by the universal cosmic mind. Concealed in the centre of this oṋḿkára

is the seed of all the sounds of the universe. This sound originates from the universal, undecaying self and also merges in that self.

Hence the sages have clearly said that by concentrating their energies on this oṋḿkára, spiritual aspirants will surely attain the nucleus of this universe, the Supreme Cosmic Consciousness.

Prańava is another name for oṋḿkára. The word “prańava” signifies zealous devotion (pra-nu+al, “nu” means to worship).

Prańavo dhanuh sharohyátmá Brahma tallakśyamucyate Apramattena veddhavyaḿ Sharavattanmayo bhavet.

This oṋḿkára is the seed of all the alphabets, and is the proclaimant and identifier of Brahma. For this reason, this is also called Shabda-Brahma. The Shruti says, Sarve vedá yadpadamá mananti Tapáḿsi sarváńi ca yadvadanti Yadicchanto brahmacaraḿ caranti Tattepadaḿ saḿgrahena vraviimyomityeta (Yajuh). * * * Etaddhyevákśaraḿ Brahma Etadevákśaram paraḿ Etadevákśaram jiṋátvá yo Yadicchati tasya tat. * * * Etadálambanaḿ Shreeth́ ametadálambanaḿ param Etadálambanaḿ jiṋatvá Brahmaloke mahiiyate.

O human beings, proceed ahead in the path of oṋḿkára towards subtleness. Do not run after the superficially pleasant mirage, dominated by tamoguńa. Establish yourself in sattvaguńa and then merge into Brahma. Reach the spot whence oṋḿkára has emerged. Awaken your dormant dynamism through sádhaná and devotion. Realize the mental elevation of divinity and merge this into the endless stream of divine mercy.

The shock clause in Jarome Luai’s GANGA 's Blasting $6 million Wests Tigers deal THE contract of Wests Tigers superstar signing Jarome Luai includes an option in his favour that could allow the playmaker to leave the joint venture club after just two seasons.

In a major development heading into next season, this masthead can reveal Luai will become a free agent following his first season at the Wests Tigers after the club agreed to player options in the final three years of his five-year contract.

Luai’s deal, worth a reported $6 million over five years, is guaranteed in the first two years but allows him to leave if things don’t work out the way he hopes in each of the following three years.

It means rival clubs will be free to negotiate with Luai potentially as early as November 1 next year over a move for the 2027 season, and also that he will effectively be coming off contract at the same time as impressive rookie sensation Lachlan Galvin.

Luai has the option to remain a free agent on November 1 every year thereafter until his Tigers contract expires at the end of the 2029 season.

Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity said that the request for the player options was first presented to former chief executive Justin Pascoe.

Most of the Games were held in Gold Coast and Brisbane.

This Games is Held every 2 years and participants come from some 30 different Countries. Ganga prasad again represented Australia in Athletics and competed in 15 Athletics events and won 10 medals in total.

5 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze and had finished with highest medal winner at Athletics Track and Field Championship.

Winning medals by Ganga from Brisbane were achieved from 100m , 60m , Discus, Javelin, Hammer Throw, Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Weight Pentathlon. Most Sportmen had a great and successful Championship in Gold Coast.

Allu Arjun to face charges over deadly stampede at Pushpa 2 premiere that killed one woman ALLU Arjun will be charged for the stampede outside a Hyderabad theatre that led to the death of a woman on Wednesday.

This occurred after he arrived unannounced for the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule, according to police reports on Thursday.

Alongside the actor, the management of Sandhya Theatre will be held accountable for failing to implement “additional security measures to manage the crowd.”

At the time of this report, there had been no immediate response from either Allu Arjun or the theatre management.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand stated that neither the theatre management nor the actor’s team had informed authorities about his visit, adding that there were no separate entry or exit arrangements for the

actor despite the theatre’s awareness of his arrival.

A 35-year-old woman died and her nine-year-old

son was hospitalized due to asphyxiation after a large crowd surged at the film theatre to catch a glimpse

of Allu Arjun, who arrived with music director Devi Sri Prasad for the screening on Wednesday evening.

According to the police, Allu Arjun arrived at the theatre around 9:30 pm with his personal security. As hundreds gathered to see him, his security team began pushing the crowd, which only worsened the situation.

The actor and his security team, along with the crowd, entered the lower balcony area of the theatre. “In this, one Revathi and her son felt suffocated... the police personnel pulled them out of the public... and performed CPR to her, son and immediately shifted her to the nearby Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital. The doctor informed that she was dead and son was advised to be shifted to another hospital for better treatment,” the statement said.

The woman's son, Teja, is reported to be in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment.

The family, who lives in Dilsukhnagar, has demanded

accountability from the theatre management and called for a response from the actor regarding the incident. They have also requested that Allu Arjun provide support to them.

Police have filed a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the woman's family's complaint.

“Stringent action as per law will be taken against all the persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre leading to the death of a person and injury to others,” said the top police official.

Meanwhile, the production house, Mythri Movie Makers, expressed regret over the incident during the movie's screening.

“We are committed to standing by them and extending all possible support during this difficult time,” the statement read on X.
