Abhijeet was the youngest of four brothers, so in 1981 he went to Mumbai to study Finance and Accountancy.

But his childhood fascination for singing and music got the better of him and Abhijeet made the life changing decision to pursue a career in playback singing.

Later started his singing career in the late 1980’s, now is renowned to have has sung in more than 18 languages.

Rightly so, he was recognized in the industry where Abhijeet Bhattacharya won a Filmfare Award in 1997!

Abijeet also has served as a judge for Indian reality television series including Indian Idol.

Today, according to Industry publication and sources “……. Abhijeet is one of the top names when it comes to male playback singers. He has entrenched himself firmly in the music world, with several other hits like 'Ole Ole' in Yeh Dillagi, the title track of Main Khiladi Tu Anari, 'Zara sa Jhoom loo main' Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge 'Teri ankhen jhuki jhuki' Fareb, 'Shaher Ki ladki' Rakshak, 'Jhanjhriya' Krishna, 'Tan tana tan tan tara' Judwaa. Be it a Sunil Shetty, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan , or Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and now Hrithik Roshan, Abhijeet has sung for them all. He performed for many films like Baaghi, Sadak, Khiladi, Raja Babu, Yeh Dillagi, Yes Boss, Baadshah, Josh and Dhadkan and many more. After his success in playback singing, he thought of singing pop. Today the starsinger lives in a Bollywood dream bungalow (named Sunny vistas) of white façade and red-tiled roof. He was

the apple of the eye of the community for his singing talents and pampered and cherished by a loving family of his lovely wife Sumati Bhattacharya and their two children.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya is not only a vocalist, but also an accomplished musician and with ease plays guitar and drums and is also a recognized composer. His

achievement has led him also be a real estate businessman.

In reminiscing about his humble beginning Abhijeet recalled the day he was packing his bags to go back to Kanpur after a long struggle in Bombay when he received a call from R.D. Burman to sing for Dev Anand's son's debut film.

R.D Burman who passed away in 1994 is one of the greatest and most

successful music directors of the Hindi film music industry. The late Burman composed musical scores for 331 films. Later Abhijeet also got to sing with Kishore Kumar, his idol, in the same film. It all happened to Abhijeet as he received a new lease of life when music director Ravindra Jain gave him an offer to live with him. Ravindra Jain a.k.a

Ravinder Sharma is a well known music director, who has given some very popular musical scores in hindi films in the 1970s and early 1980s. He was born, blind, in Aligarh on 28th February in 1944.

It was during his stay with Ravindra that Abhijeet's proximity to Bollywood grew in a phased and gradual manner. He began vis iting R.D. Burman's residence and started getting frequent opportunities to sing for stage shows. Abhijeet got opportunities to sing as a chorus singer for music directors Rajesh Roshan and Jagjit Singh. It was R.D. Burman who acted like a mentor to Abhijeet and gave hi m his first break as a playback singer in Dev Anand's Anand Aur Anand.

In his exemplary charting busting career Abhijeet has sung 6034 songs in more than 1000 films.

He was nominated for Forbes Popular 100 Indian Celebrity in the year 2014.

When Abhijeet walks onto our Brisbane Hillsong stage on October 19th stage it will be with pomp and aura so captivating for i n front of you is the one and only Abhijeet whose journey to that stage has been remarkable unsurpassed achievement in the Bollywoo d and Hindi performance industry.

Celebrating Culture, Supporting Each Other I hope, like me, you're enjoying the cooler weather and beautiful Winter days as embrace the month of August.I truly appreciate all the feedback I have received last month and when I have been out and about in the community! It has been wonderful to hear from readers about what is important to you.

I would like to start this month by acknowledging that some of our readers are going throw difficult times, many I have been told are experiencing poor health, financial hardship or have lost a loved one recently. What makes us different at the Brisbane Indian Times is that family and community matter and we are here for you in difficult and good times. We hope you take comfort in our paper.

August is a month filled with joy as many people celebrate India Day, Janmashtami, and Onam in Kerala. These occasions hold great significance for locals in Queensland and around the world. I know that many have marked these important dates by celebrating with family at home or participating in local community events.

On behalf of the team, I would like to congratulate the GOPIO Qld committee and all involved for organizing another successful India Day Fair at Roma St, Parklands. Witnessing thousands of families, both young and old, from diverse backgrounds coming together throughout the day brought immense joy to me and so many. I have fond memories of attending this event since I was very young, and it has become a tradition for me to volunteer and

celebrate with the community members, who I now consider as my extended family. These events hold a special place in my heart, and I am delighted to see the increasing participation of young people this year, whether it's through dance, accompanying their parents, helping their parents in the food stalls, or simply showing their respect.

It was wonderful to hear and see that so many families decided celebrate at home by wearing traditional clothing, making and sharing delicious Indian dishes, while signing and listening to their favourite Indian music. Witnessing individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those of Indian descent and those who are not, unite to partake in the festivities was truly heartwarming. This particular year held added significance for me, as I was given a lesson on preparing authentic Masala Chai tea at a friend's residence.

I am pleased to announce that the feedback received from my July survey has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the diverse ways in which we celebrate culture and

promote inclusivity in society. I want to express my gratitude to all the readers who took the time to share their thoughts, ideas, and opinions. Interestingly, 33% of our readers discovered Indian Times through word of mouth for the first time. The majority, 70%, indicated a preference for reading the paper online, while the remaining 33% still enjoy the traditional paper copy. This is encouraging news, as it shows our commitment, along with the Deo family, to ensuring that everyone, regardless of internet access or income, can still engage with our informative and community content. According to our readers, local news is the most popular category, followed by National, Environmental, cultural, political, and sports news.

I would like to emphasize the feedback we received from a reader who suggested that we concentrate more on homelessness, particularly concerning middle-aged women, women of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) and domestic and family violence (DFV) issues within multicultural

communities. Additionally, there are studies on the integration of youth and seniors, highlighting the advantages of social events for these groups, as well as addressing the pressing issue of the current housing crisis in our community.

I believe it is crucial to recognize these comments, as I recently I attended a DV fundraiser. This is one of many that I have attended despite my age. During the event, I listened to a Domestic Violence (DV) survivor share her story and emphasize the importance of educating our youth about DV while taking proactive steps to prevent it. Additionally, I discovered that there are over

40,000 Queensland Women aged 55 and above experiencing financial difficulties due to various factors such as increasing living expenses, unemployment, inadequate superannuation, and limited affordable housing options. I thank raising these significant issues with us.

Looking Back in History The Importance of revisiting History and how it affects us today.

In this addition, Brisbane Indian Times will unearth historical events whose affects help change our world. Some are heart wrenching, while others glorifying but parodically it changed our world for the better and forever!

With respect, it is not the intent of Brisbane Indian Times to magnify the historical economic recessions or catastrophic conflicts of the past. Far from it!

Columbus started his voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, was an Italian explorer that sailed west in search of a trading route; his ambition changed the world.

It received Royal Assent on August 28, 1833, and took effect on August 1, 1834. Slavery Abolition Act, (1833), in British history, act of Parliament that abolished slavery in most British colonies, freeing more than 800,000 enslaved Africans in the Caribbean and South Africa as well as a small number

Family connectedness, love and care, compassion, and conversely hate, greed and egocentric maneuverers has hardly changed over the generations from antiquity.

We will not delve into the holy significance of the month of August in the Hindu, Islamic and Christian faith. But suffice to acknowledge these faiths continue to practice their respective holy and sacred historical rituals and observances of events in their contemporary faith practices and personal development.

NEW NATIONAL CAMPAIGN AND SUPPORTS TO QUIT VAPING AND SMOKING The Australian Government is providing support for Australians to quit vaping and smoking, with new advertising campaigns and updated quit support services.

The $63.4 million ‘Give Up For Good’ campaign includes four separate but complementary creative approaches which will raise awareness of the health harms of smoking and vaping, and encourage Australians to take advantage of newly expanded quit support services.

The campaigns will run across television, digital video and audio, social

The Australia Federal Government through her Department of Home Affairs has generously invited Citizens of her neighboring countries, between the ages of 18 to 45 to try their luck on a migration kind of ballot.

“The Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) pre-application ballot aims to give eligible people from Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste equal access to the PEV. The ballot provides a fair and transparent process by randomly selecting people to apply for the visa. It makes sure there is equal

access for people of any skill level, occupation and gender.” Dept Home Affairs.

The Australian Government has generously allocated up to 3000 visa places per year, which includes partners and dependent children.

Majority of these Pacific young, age 18 – 45 are descendants of Pacific Islanders who shared the agony, sweat and blood in the trenches with brave Australia diggers/ soldiers in both world wars, Malayan campaigns, Vietnams, East Timor, Middle East and other

volatile spots on earth.

Australians’ goodwill has opened employment opportunities in Australia for Pacific Islanders under the PALM scheme. The latest update as at end of 2023 there were 39,644 PALM scheme workers in Australia and 423 current Approved Employers.

This new Visa sub class 192 offer has excited the majority of these PALM workers who may be eligible to try their luck on the draw, hoping should they be chosen to have their respective families join them in Australia.

Potential 100,000 plus applicants for the 3,000 spots?

Let’s do a bit of simplistic arithmetic, shall we?

The Pacific Island population of 2.3 million added to PNG’s 11.78 million equals 14.08 million.

Now, in Fiji’s case 48.5% are between the ages of 20 – 45 years old, within the eligible age to put their names in the draw.

So, 48.5% of Fiji’s 939,535 population is 455,567. So, to borrow Fiji’s equation pacific wide without any other socio-economic

mitigation will be 48.5% of 14.08 million is 6,790,800.

Say if only 2% of the 6,790,800 puts their names in the draw, that’s leave us with 135,816 potential applicants vying for 3,000 spot. No wonder there are late night prayer meetings in the PALM workers camp, declaring a verses in the Chistian Bible in the book of Proverbs 16:33 to favour them!

It seems that the only hope to be one of the 3,000 is by divine intervention of whatever deity each worship.

Recent visa embargos

are that no PALM workers holder of Sub class 403 may apply for Student visa as in the previous years.

However, the possibility for PALM worker spouses applying for Student visa may still be available and could be a real fallback plan should the luck of the draw fall far off the mark.

Singh is one of India’s

premier musicians and enthralled the audience with a record 103 songs in a concert that finished after midnight.

For the last four years, Singh has been the most downloaded Indian artist on Spotify and the crowd sang along joyously with the Punjabi-Bengali maestro who showcased his vocal range and mix of classical and

modern songs.

CulturalPulse provided cultural advisory services to Qudos Bank Arena which included pre-event communications and announcements in Hindi, as well as Hindi language speaking event staff and an Indian tasting box which sold out.

A corporate event was

Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C in Australia – the latest data The Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM) regularly produces reports Mapping the geographic diversity of chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C prevalence, management and treatment in Australia.

Here are some of the relevant statistics from the reports recently launched.

For the Viral Hepatitis Mapping Project: Hepatitis B National Report 2022 we see: • An estimated 205,549 people were living with chronic hepatitis B in Australia in 2022.

• 70% of people living with chronic hepatitis B in Australia were born overseas.

• Almost 28% of people living with hepatitis B don’t know they have the infection.

• Whilst not all people living with hepatitis B require treatment, an estimated 20% would require treatment. In 2022 this number was only 12.9%.

• Only 25.5% of people living with chronic hepatitis B are undertaking appropriate care – that is seeing their doctor (for blood tests including viral load monitoring, liver ultrasounds and fibrosis assessment and possible treatment) at least once a year – all people living with chronic hepatitis B need regular monitoring.

• Sadly, we have seen a

decrease in the number of children vaccinated and therefore protected from hepatitis B – with an overall infant immunisation rate of 93.8%.

For the Viral Hepatitis Mapping Project: Hepatitis C National Report 2021-2023 we see: • Around 74,400 people are living with chronic hepatitis C in Australia up to October 2023.

• Over 104,000 people received treatment and were cured of hepatitis C between March 2016 and October 2023.

• The rates of treatment uptake have declined over time – with 8,169 people receiving treatment in 2020

and 4,308 treated in 2023.

In Queensland the reports tell us that: • 32,744 people are living with chronic hepatitis B, with only 3195 (9.8%) receiving treatment and 3,380 people receiving monitoring – meaning 26,169 people are living with chronic hepatitis B in Queensland but are not seeing their doctor or nurse practitioner for care of their infection.

• The number of people receiving treatment and cure for chronic hepatitis C has decreased from 642 people per month in 2016 to 111 people per month in 2023.

Sadly, if a person has chronic hepatitis B or chronic

hepatitis C, and either don’t know they have the infection or are not having regular check-ups with their doctor and possible treatment, they have a greatly increased risk of developing liver damage, liver cirrhosis or liver cancer.

In Australia liver cancer is currently the fastestincreasing cause of cancer death.

Parenting, if only there was a manual!

The chaos parenting can be and why it is essential to have a solid foundation.

If you ask any first-time parents, they will share with you that with the intense joy and love they experience for their newborn infant they also feel intense anxiety and fear of caring for a vulnerable little human being.

It sure is a steep learning curve to fend for an infant's biological needs, and a lot of focus goes into this in the early days. The new mother is hormonally primed to care and feed the baby. These needs get sorted out eventually and there is a sense of success as rhythms gets established. However, at each age new hurdles present, and parents very quickly learn not to gloat over mastering or achieving something as the baby for sure changes! This heralds in the new journey of a parent as more complex situations present and new parents have to navigate terrains they have never travelled.

Quite a lot of things impact how we parent. These include parents own mental and physical wellbeing, their own experiences of being parented, experience of trauma in early life or stability in marriage/partnerships. Then there is parenting alone, as a single mum or dad, mostly this falls on the mother in many communities. Then there is also progressing and balancing careers, including creating the economic stability to provide for their family. Then throw in the mix the increase and prevalence of behavioural and emotional difficulties, hyperactivity or internalising behaviours like aggression, anxiety and depression that children are experiencing. Let’s not even begin to talk about increase use of screens and the prevalence of attention deficient disorders.

When I think about my own parenting experience, away from my family and community, alone with only my nuclear family, I have immense empathy for newly immigrated families who have young children. Not only are you trying to start or establish your selves in a new job, but you will be learning to navigate new a health and education system, trying settle in new country and on top of all that you could be really home sick for family and traditions that would have

surrounded you had you been back home. None of these are an easy feat! So, remember be kind to yourself. As with life – parenting is also a journey.

Sometimes we are winning, and all is working well and other times we will be drowning in laundry, crying kids and looming deadlines at work. This is when I have turned to yoga, breathwork and meditation. It has been an iterative journey of selfcorrecting and as my kids grew older being told by them, when I erred!

Calling in some sanity to the chaos!

Yoga as philosophy is about going inward and becoming centred. When we to operate from a centred state, we are able to cope with whatever life throws at us. It is about creating equanimity in the chaos of life.

It is about aiming for smaller/ shorter reactions to experiences to the good or bad things that happen. The more centred we are, the more likely we will come from a place clarity and consideration for ourselves as parents and for our children and ourselves. Then we begin to see reactions to good or bad things morph into responses. The elegance of this can surprise you at times! Once, my primary school age kid asked me “you were really mad a minute ago, but now you are fine, how did you do that?”. That was a day I was winning and, trust me there were many when I was not.

I am huge proponent of parents investing in themselves and their wellbeing before they become parents. That’s right, parenting starts before we become parents. Because when all hells comes loose with a screaming, vomity baby at 3 am, several nights in a row; we will inevitably go to our default way of operating. Whether we agree with it, like it or not, we all will have moments where we have parented in ways that we would not have approved of had we not been in the that sleep depraved state!

Here I would encourage parents to invest in themselves before they become pregnant. It is what you have been practicing for a while, and that is the established habit or discipline

that you will carry with you in your parenting phase. And, for those who have had babies, its not too late, you can still be work in progress, like the rest of us. Take some time and learn a stress management technique that can support you in your life and in your parenting. I have for over quite a few decades practiced a breathing technique call Sudarshan Kriya. So, by the time my children came this was a well-established practice for me. So, in addition to having a practice that supports us daily, it helps to have a framework that we can look to for some structure and sanity.

In parenting there were many moments when we all could have done with some structure and big picture views.

Let’s dive right into it! Why the Yama are good foundation for parenting: Yama are the social code of conduct, essentially the external discipline that helps create harmony with our outer world. Here are practical suggestions how the Yamas can be translated to parenting.

Embracing the spiritual riches of Chaturmasa, a sacred four-month period - Jul 17, 2024 – Nov 12, 2024

The content of this article is taken from the satsang (spiritual discourse) of H.H. Sant Shri Asharamji Bapu. Swami Vivekananda addressed the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in September 1893.

A hundred years after him, Pujya Bapu ji addressed the same Parliament in September 1993 and the whole parliament reverberated with the chanting of Hari Om. Both of these world-renowned spiritual leaders addressed the audience for a much longer period than the given time and the audience were absorbed in listening to them.

To save the youth who are being ruined due to the lustful festivals like valentine’s day, in 2007 Pujya Bapu ji-initiated celebrations of Matri-Pitri Pujan Diwas (Parents’ worship day) on 14th February. Pujya Bapu ji felt that, due to the blind imitation of Western culture there has been a steep rise in the incidences of alcoholism, suicide, and other immoral activities, especially among the youth during the last week of December. To rescue the youth from this debauchery and denigration, Pujya Bapu ji came up with the idea of worshipping a sacred Tulsi plant (holy basil). So, with a view to awaken the cultural pride of India and to save the countrymen from mental slavery, in 2014, he initiated celebration of Tulsi pujan on 25th December.

Pujya Bapu ji has always emphasized the necessity to follow rich Indian culture and always said that it is only the Indian culture and Sanatana dharma which can give the world true happiness & peace.

Dear readers, in this article, Pujya Bapu ji discusses the sacred four-month period of Chaturmasa.

Occurring during the rainy season, Chaturmasa is considered a particularly holy time.

This year the holy period of Chaturmasa started on 17th July 2024 and will finish on 12th November 2024. In Hinduism and Jainism, the period of Chaturmasa holds high significance.

Chaturmasa commences on Deva-shayani Ekadashi in Asadha (June-July) and concludes at Deva-uthi Ekadashi of Kartik month (October-November). During this sacred period, Lord Narayana enters Yoganidra, a state of deep meditation, Call: (07) 3189 6535

immersed in the eternal bliss of Brahman while resting in solitude within the ocean. As Lord Narayana remains in this tranquil state, the power of water intensifies, symbolizing a time of spiritual potency and introspection.

Practitioners are encouraged to enhance their mental and intellectual acuity through practices like ajapa-japa, a form of mantra meditation performed silently with the breath, aiming to draw closer to the divine essence of Brahman. Engaging in actions driven by material desires, such as marriages, is advised against during these four months, as the emphasis shifts towards virtuous deeds like fasting, silence (mauna), chanting (japa), acts of charity, meditation, and ritualistic bathing, which are believed to bring spiritual merit and success.

The period of Chaturmasa discourages indulgence in worldly pleasures and physical gratification, highlighting the importance of self-restraint to facilitate contemplation on Brahman, meditation on the divine, and finding solace in the ultimate reality of Brahman.

By observing moderation and discipline during this auspicious time, individuals can deepen their spiritual practices and seek profound connection with the divine, akin to the serene repose of Lord Narayana within the embrace of Brahman.

Especially fruitful in the four-month period of Chaturmasa Take a river bath, pond bath, or ocean-bath before sunrise in Chaturmasa or put three bilva leaves in a bucket filled with water and bathe with that water; or make a mixture of sesame seeds, barley and powder of dried Amla (Indian gooseberry) fruit. Put a little mixture in a bucket or a bowl, filled with water and make a solution and rub it on the body then chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya…’ or contemplate that the Brahman has assumed the form of water and then take a bath. Such a bath will destroy sin, give religious merit and enhance spiritual radiance. By this, the fruit of bathing in all pilgrimages will be obtained. SaptaDhanya ubatan contains barley and sesame seeds, so use this unguent before bathing is also pleasant and

joyous. The devotee should take water in his hollowed hand and consider it as the water with which the feet of Bhagavan Vishnu are washed, and then pour it on his head. If for some reason, he cannot take a bath with ash or a mental bath with chanting of mantras.

The person who lights a lamp under a Tulsi plant or an Amla tree or a banyan tree, or in a sacred place like a temple, hermitage, river, or crossroads has an increase in the light of knowledge in his intellect, understanding and practical life.

The person who eats food served on a pattala (a plate made of palash leaves sewn together) has a preponderance of sattva in his intellect and gets the love of God. If you cannot fast for one day a week in Chaturmasa, then fasting for 1 day in 15 days is a must. This Opportunity should not be missed.

For four months, Lord Vishnu lives in nomind bhava without any companion or materials.

If you too remain like this during this period, then it will be helpful in your spiritual progress.

This is an opportunity to fill your life with devotional love for Bhagavan, divine knowledge and divine joy.

This opportunity to do penance and sadhna, bhajan during Chaturmasa should not be missed. I performed an anushthana for 40 days, probably that would have been Chaturmasa as far as I remember. The powers that I got and the treasure that I got in those 40 days has not reduced at all even after distributing it to the masses for the past 50 years.

Elevate your spiritual journey by accumulating spiritual wisdom Regarding the glory of Chaturmasa, Pujya Bapuji says: Just as the peasant takes rest after sowing seeds, and waits for the crop, similarly this period of

Chaturmasa marks the start of amassing the spiritual wealth. If possible, take single meal in month of Shravana and increase the Japa. If possible, visit the sacred places to perform Anushthana or arrange a separate room for worship at Home. He should enter the room at 5 am after bath in the morning and come out on second or third morning as part of “Anushthana”.

He should observe silence, consume only fruit or light food or milk fitting his physical needs to increase spiritual wealth. He should be determined firmly: “It should not matter if I get respected or insulted, praised or censured; I will attain God even it requires to leave 10 million tasks.” That’s all, and then God will create the opportunity to reveal himself in your Heart”.

Take full advantage of the tremendously glorious period of Chaturmasa by noting the following facts) 1. Remaining engaged in virtuous acts like performance of duty, listening to Satsang, serving the Self-realized men, having Darshan of Saints, worshipping the Lord, etc. and having passion for making donations to deserving persons are considered extremely propitious during the period of Chaturmasa.

2. Sleeping on the bare ground (with blanket, a mat or bedsheet, etc.), practicing Bramhcharya, Japa, Charity, etc. are especially beneficial during these days.

Other information about Chaturmasa Chaturmas, a revered period in the Hindu calendar lasting for four sacred months from July to October or November, holds profound spiritual significance and observances. The first month of Chaturmas, Shravan, is dedicated to Lord Shiva, with special reverence on Mondays.

Bhadrapada, the subsequent month, is characterized by vibrant festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi and Krishna Ashtami, marking joyous celebrations and devotion.

As Chaturmas progresses, the month of Ashwin brings forth auspicious festivals like Durga Puja, Navratri, and Diwali, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and the victory of good over evil.

The final month of Chaturmas, Kartik, signifies the culmination of Diwali celebrations, illuminating homes with lights and fireworks to usher in prosperity and happiness.

Chaturmasa, encompassing the period of Dakshinayana, holds a deep spiritual significance as it is believed that Lord Vishnu resides with King Bali in Patala, engrossed in Yoga Nidra for the four months of Chaturmasa.

During this time, it is customary to refrain from performing auspicious activities, marriages, and construction, as the decreased sunlight

and increased rainfall affect the earth's energies and digestive powers.

The traditional customs and practices observed during Chaturmas serve as a reminder of the importance of spiritual reflection, restraint, and reverence during this sacred period. By honoring these traditions, individuals seek to align themselves with the divine forces and uphold the sanctity of Chaturmas.

It is the time for devotion, penance, bathing in holy rivers, performing sacrifices, and charity. During the rainy season, Sanyasins observe Chaturmasa and stay at one place to meditate on the Absolute Reality and instruct their disciples in the Spiritual lore. Major celebrations within this holy period include Guru Purnima, Hariyali Teej, Nag Panchami, Krishna Janmashtami, Kajari Teej, Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Durga Puja, Karwa Chauth, Dhanteras, Narak Chaturdashi, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj & Chhath Puja.

Chaturmas holds significance beyond Hinduism, with Jainism and Buddhism also incorporating this period into their spiritual practices.

Jains observe Paryushan, an eight-day (Shwetambara) or ten-day (Digambara) festival of fasting and repentance, during Chaturmas.

Traditional beliefs suggest that observing some form of fasting throughout Chaturmas is essential for maintaining good health and warding off seasonal ailments.

Jagjivan Ram Jagjivan Ram, popularly addressed as Babuji by his followers, was a social reformer, a freedom fighter and a prominent leader of Dalits in India. He was involved in establishing the All India Depressed Classes League, a Congress organisation dedicated to attain equality for dalits.

He was the youngest minister in the interim government formed in 1946. As a member of the Constituent Assembly of India, he ensured that the constitution enshrined social justice for all people including the dalits. After independence, he served as a cabinet minister with different portfolios and maintained a leading position in the central governments.

Origin - Jagjivan Ram was born in a Dalit, also known as scheduled castes or depressed class, family on 5 April 1908 in Chandwa village of Bhojpur district in Bihar.

His father was Shobhi Ram and mother Vasanti Devi.

Shobhi Ram was a deeply religious man. His uncle had served the British army in the Punjab. During his youth, Shobhi lived with him and acquired a working knowledge of English language and the basics of an education.

He joined the army and was posted at Peshawar.

Later, he resigned and returned to his native village, where he acquired some agricultural land and started living on farming.

In the village, he evolved into a Mahanth, the head of the religious order called Shiv Narayani sect. Being proficient in calligraphy, he illustrated numerous books for the sect and distributed them locally. He became popular in the region on account of his spiritual work and caring personality.

Vasanti Devi was also a pious woman. She helped her husband and managed the household. Jagjivan Ram imbibed several admirable habits from his parents. He had one older brother and three sisters.

The family lived in a small house, which Shobhi Ram had built, and led a contented and dignified life.

Jagjivan Ram was an active and mischievous child. He would remove his father’s writing materials such as the brushes and pens for play without permission. His mother usually gently remonstrated him for his innocent actions.

Education and Early life - He was admitted to primary school on Vasant Panchami day in January 1914. The primary school classes were held on the verandah of Pandit Kapil Muni Tiwari’s house. His father took him to the school for admission and introduced him to Kapil Muni. As a mark of respect, Jagjivan Ram bowed to Kapil Muni who noted his

respectful conduct and was very pleased. Five months later, Shobhi Ram passed away leaving behind his children and wife.

In absence of the father, his brother Sant Lal, who was twenty-three years older than Jagjivan Ram, helped their mother manage the family. Sant Lal always treated young Jagjivan as his own son.

Jagjivan Ram was married in his childhood, but started living with his wife when they grew older as was local custom at the time.

At the age of eleven, Jagjivan Ram passed the Upper Primary examination.

In 1920, he was admitted to the Aggarwal Middle School at Arrah and two years later, he joined Arrah Town School. He was a brilliant student and studied the usual subjects as well as religious scriptures.

Jagjivan Ram became proficient in the Ramayan and sang its verses with full confidence. He also read other religious books such as Prem Sagar and Sukh Sagar. He was a regular reader of several contemporary magazines including Bharat Mitra, Venkatesh Samachar and Saraswati, and Mahatma Gandhi’s Navajivan and Tarun Bharat. He was also fond of Hindi poets and writers and read the writings of Kabir, Tulasidas and Rahim.

Despite being born into a dalit family, in general, he did not feel inferior to his classmates from the upper castes. At one point, someone suggested he apply for a fee concession, as being a dalit student he was eligible for it.

He declined the idea and instead studied consistently and attained distinction, and thus received a scholarship on academic merit.

Untouchability was a common social ill during that period. A dalit was considered untouchable or impure and Jagjivan Ram was also exposed to mistreatments. One such occurrence that related to drinking water took place during his school days.

There were two water pots in the school, one for Hindus and other for Muslims. Normally a peon supplied water to the boys.

One day, when the peon was absent, Jagjivan Ram himself took drinking water from the Hindu pot.

Someone noticed him taking water and reported to the headmaster, stating that Jagjivan Ram was an untouchable. The head master arranged a third pot for untouchables.

Jagjivan Ram did not like the idea. He did not get into argument but broke the third pot at a convenient time. This happened twice and then the idea of the third pot was dropped.

In 1925, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya visited Arrah town. Jagjivan Ram

read the welcome address in honour of Malaviya on behalf of the schedule castes at a public meeting.

Malaviya was impressed by his address and invited him to join the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

After passing matriculation in first division, Jagjivan Ram joined the BHU in 1926. He was awarded the prestigious Birla scholarship and passed the Inter Science examination.

At BHU, he experienced social discriminations.

Hostel management declined serving him meal and barbers refused him haircut. He organised the scheduled castes to protest against such maltreatment and eventually left BHU. In 1928, Jagjivan Ram joined Vidyasagar College in Kolkata and received a B. Sc. degree from Kolkata University in 1931.

Social Work and Politics - As a student, he organised Ravidas Sabha, which worked for the upliftment of his community. He became an active participant in the activities of Congress. He worked as a volunteer at the Kolkata session of the Indian National Congress held in December 1928.

Jagjivan Ram organised several meetings of the working class and weaker sections of society to draw attention toward issues of discrimination.

He addressed a conference of the depressed classes at the Lahore session of Congress in December 1929 and came in contact with national leaders.

Jagjivan Ram was always conscious of the problem of untouchability.

He sought support from Hindu religious writings such as Veds, Gita, Ramayan and other scriptures to help discard social evils.

He had correspondence with Mahatma Gandhi on problems of depressed classes.

He actively participated in the programs of Anti Untouchability Leagues, which was later named as

Harijan Sevak Sangh. It was established with the blessing of Gandhi. As a promising dalit leader, he was invited to conferences of depressed classes in Bihar, Odisha, Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

In 1932, Jagjivan Ram participated in the Bihar Provincial AntiUntouchability Conference at Patna, which was attended by leaders of Hindu Mahasabha, Arya Samaj and Congress. He started working with Dr Rajendra Prasad and was appointed Secretary of the Bihar Harijan Sevak Sangh.

His first wife died after a serious illness in 1933. In 1935, he married Indrani Devi, the daughter of Dr Birbal, a social worker from Kanpur. The couple had two children, a son Suresh Kumar and a daughter, Meira Kumar.

Meira Kumar became the first woman speaker of Lok Sabha in 2009.

During the 1934 Bihar earthquake, Jagjivan Ram worked with Rajendra Prasad for relief of earthquake victims. When Gandhi came to Bihar during this time, Jagjivan Ram accompanied him during his state tour. He played a role in founding the All India Depressed Classes League, which was dedicated to attaining equality for untouchables.

It was an organisation of nationalist schedule castes.

Jagjivan Ram was elected its General Secretary.

Consequent to the government’s divisive policies, different religious groups attempted to convert dalits into their own religion.

Jagjivan Ram issued a statement in support of Malaviya’s calling upon the depressed classes to take a pledge not to leave Hindu religion.

Under the Government of India Act, 1935, schedule castes were awarded representation in the legislature. Both nationalists and the British loyalists sought Jagjivan Ram because of his knowledge of the social

and economic situation in Bihar. He chose to go with the nationalists and joined Congress. He was valued as an able spokesperson for the depressed class and also capable of countering loyalists.

In 1935, he proposed a resolution in the session of the Hindu Mahasabha demanding that temples and drinking water wells be opened up to dalits.

Jagjivan Ram was nominated to the Bihar Legislative Council and became an MLC in 1937.

When Congress accepted the mandate to form a government in Bihar, he was appointed to the post of Parliamentary Secretary.

He proved himself to be a capable administrator and efficient statesman.

He drafted antiuntouchability and dalit upliftment programs, organised the landless labour of Bihar, Odisha and Gujarat and founded Bihar Provincial Khet Mazdoor Sabha, an organisation of the landless labourers.

He along with the congress ministry resigned from the government against India’s participation in World War II. He was among the principal leaders who publicly denounced India's participation in the war. He was elected a member of the All India Congress Committee and General Secretary of Bihar Provincial Congress Committee.

Jagjivan Ram participated in individual Satyagrah called by Gandhi in protest against India’s participation in the war. He was arrested in December 1940 and convicted to one year’s imprisonment. He was re-arrested in August 1942 during the Quit India movement and remained in detention until October 1943.

In 1946, Jagjivan Ram became the youngest minister in Jawaharlal Nehru’s interim government.

He was appointed a member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted India’s constitution.

Post Independence - In Nehru’s first cabinet after independence, he served as a Labour Minister. He is credited for laying the foundation for several labour welfare policies in India. He was a part of the Indian delegation that attended an International Labour Conference in August 1947 held in Geneva, and was elected President of the ILO. He served as a labour minister until 1952. Later, he was appointed a cabinet minister with portfolios including Communication, Transport and Railways in the Nehru’s Cabinet.

In Indira Gandhi’s government, he was appointed the minister for Labour, Employment and Rehabilitation.

In 1967, he was appointed the minister for Food

and Agriculture. In that capacity, he presided over a period of famine. He initiated steps to increase food-grain production and reduce the country's reliance on food imports.

His policy on agriculture is credited to have led the Green Revolution, making India self sufficient in food.

When Congress split in 1969, he became the president of the section led by Indira Gandhi.

He worked as Minister of Defence and later as Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation in her cabinet. During his tenure as Defence Minister, the 1971 Indo–Pak war was fought, which led to the creation of an independent country Bangladesh.

Jagjivan Ram remained loyal to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for most of the time during Indian Emergency that was declared on 25 June 1975 and lifted on 21 March 1977. During the final days of Emergency, he along with some other politicians resigned from the cabinet and formed a party called the Congress for Democracy.

His resignation from the cabinet was a fatal blow to the Emergency government. He joined the Janata Party alliance and was a frontrunner for the prime minister’s post.

The Janata Party won the general election in 1977 and formed a national government, however, Jagjivan Ram was denied the opportunity to become the prime minister due to intra party wrangling. Morarji Desai became the Prime Minister and Jagjivan Ram was appointed the Deputy Prime Minister. He was also given the defence portfolio in the Janata Party government.

The Janata Party contested the 1980 general election with Jagjivan Ram as its prime ministerial candidate. The party did not perform well in the election. Disillusioned with Janata Party and Congress, Jagjivan Ram formed his own party the Congress (J). His party contested the 1984 general election, but he alone could win.

His son Suresh Ram passed away on 21 May 1985, leaving his parents completely heartbroken.

Jagjivan Ram was hospitalised in May the next year with severe respiratory problems. He died on 6 July 1986.

Jagjivan Ram’s political career spanned more than 50 years. He remained a Member of Parliament from the first election in 1952 till his death. He held the record for being longest serving cabinet minister in India. HEALTHY BOUNDARIES

I want to talk to you about having healthy boundaries in your life. God has a good plan for your life; if you are to live in victory and at peace, you will have to raise some healthy boundaries.

The scriptures read, "Above all, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." I am not talking about organ which pumps blood in your body, but your inner person, the real you, and the importance of setting up a guard around it.

One thing you can do today is not control other people's lives and not allow someone else to be in the driver's seat of your life. You respect other people's opinions and give them the benefit of the doubt, likewise other people must respect your boundaries.

You may ask, "What if I lose a friend if I say "No" to them."

A true friend will understand

you. They will not walk away from you if you disagree with them. They will not be offended when they see that you have established healthy boundaries in your life.

In the Bible (Nehemiah 2), Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem to find that the walls around the city had been severely damaged, and he mentions at least three gates that required restoration.

These gates were opened in the morning and closed in the afternoon.

Guards were placed at these gates. They would let the city people in but keep out any wild animals or enemies from entering. Day and night, they had the opening hours and the closing hours.

Nehemiah and his team came to repair these and to keep the city safe, secure, and protected.

Here are three things we can learn from Nehemiah.

1. Boundaries don't push others away. Boundaries are to help hold you together.

Some people were unhappy when Nehemiah and his team started rebuilding the walls. Also, Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and others got jealous and were offended. They came to attack the city and cause confusion among the people.

people together. Daring to set boundaries is a sign that you are not giving control of your life to someone else and that you love yourself enough even when you risk disappointing others.

2. The only people who will get upset about you setting boundaries are the ones who benefitted from you when you had none. You do not have to put yourself on fire to keep other people warm. As long as the walls of Jerusalem were torn down, their enemies were happy.

But when the Jews began the repairs, they got angry. Other people have set times with

family, work, rest, etc and so can you. When you have healthy boundaries, you are showing others that your life is also essential. You have your "opening hours" and your "closing hours." One time, Jesus was asleep in a boat when a storm hit. The disciples came to Jesus to get Him to wake up and do something. Some people are like that. They are not taking steps to have some discipline in their life; they won't do what is good and right for them. So, when problems come in their life, they will run to you so you can rescue them. There will be times

when you will have to say "No." The Bible says you are God's creation. You are also His temple. Through the boundaries, you show God that you love and care about His temple.

3. Love yourself enough to set boundaries. Your time and energy are precious.

You get to choose how you use it. Your boundaries are your personal space. Other people need to respect it. Nehemiah was letting others know that within the walls of Jerusalem, the Jews could live in peace and be protected. When you set healthy boundaries in your

life, you are prioritizing your needs over other people's wants. The golden rule says, "Love your neighbour, as you love yourself." That means if you are good and kind to your neighbour, you must be reasonable and kind to yourself first.

Having healthy boundaries leads to a healthy and rewarding life. You don't have to say "yes" all the time.

You are not responsible for keeping everyone happy. You have to set your “opening hours and your closing hours.” Trusting, God can help you to build your life with healthy boundaries. I believe all this is possible through a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Brisbane celebrated the auspicious Rath Yatra

On June 30, 2024, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Brisbane celebrated the auspicious Rath Yatra (Festival of Chariot) at Pallara Park, drawing a vibrant crowd of devotees, community leaders, and cultural enthusiasts.

The event, symbolizing the journey of chariots to promote goodness, happiness, and harmony, was a resounding success, filled with joy and spiritual fervour.

The Rath Yatra began at 2:00 PM, with the chariots beautifully adorned by the volunteers putting tireless efforts symbolising the devotion and dedication ready for the ceremonial procession. The atmosphere was electric with the sounds of traditional music, devotional songs, and the enthusiastic participation of around three thousand attendees.

The event was graced

by Holy presence of BAPS priests and numerous notable figures from various walks of life.

Among the distinguished guests were Hon. Minister Leanen Enoch MP, James Martin MP for Statton, Mr Jon Rovan, Mayor of Logan

City, Mrs. Neetu Bhagotia Consul General of India, Cr. Emily Kim, Swami Atmeshanand ji Vedanta Centre, and Dr. Priti Suraj President FICQ with her committee members and other community leaders and representatives of religious organisations.

These esteemed guests were warmly welcomed and participated actively in the festivities, enhancing the overall experience for everyone present.

The Rath Yatra featured an array of cultural performances, including traditional dances, devotional singing, and the recitation of spiritual hymns. Children and adults alike enjoyed participating in the procession, pulling the chariots and offering their prayers and respects.

Speeches from community leaders emphasized the importance of cultural events like Rath Yatra in fostering community spirit and preserving traditions.

The event also included a variety of food stalls offering delicious traditional Indian cuisine, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The Rath Yatra, or

Chariot Festival, is one of the grandest and most significant festivals in India, particularly in Puri, Odisha.

It commemorates the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and his sister Subhadra from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.

This journey is a powerful symbol of unity and cultural heritage, drawing millions of devotees who come to witness and participate in the grand procession of the deities on magnificently decorated chariots.

In Brisbane's celebration, the chariots were similarly adorned, with one chariot carrying the deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, and

Subhadra, while another chariot was dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Aksharpurushottam Maharaj, and the Guru Parampara. This inclusion signifies the harmonious blending of traditions and the universal appeal of the Rath Yatra.

The Rath Yatra is a timehonored tradition that plays a vital role in promoting cultural heritage and unity within the community. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple, through such events, continues to foster a sense of belonging and cultural pride among its members.

Key Scriptures: Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

We all want freedom in life.

But we need to understand that with freedom comes responsibility. Therefore, we have to exercise our rights that will not harm others.

Freedom does not mean you can do anything that pleases you.

Therefore What is true freedom?

The message of the Bible is about forgiveness, redemption and freedom.

When Jesus revealed himself as the Messiah, He said that He had come to Earth to “proclaim freedom”

(Luke 4:18). And on another occasion, He said, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Jesus was not setting us free to do whatever we wanted; He was freeing us to do what we ought to do.

Pray this simple prayer with a sincere heart: Dear God, I come to you and ask for your forgiveness.

The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of your Holy way of life.

Therefore, forgive my many sins. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again for my salvation (Moksha).

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):

A Man of Unique Character

By Ml. M .Nawaaz Ashrafi The longest lasting love is a love of someone's perfection in noble inner qualities. So we will now begin to go through snapshots of the life of Prophet Muhammad .

For forty years prior to the revelation, the Prophet Muhammad was indisputably known to be of sound morals.

Amongst his tribe he was known as "As-Sadeeq AlAmeen," meaning the honest and trustworthy one. The fact that he was given this name can mean one of two things: either his honesty and trustworthy nature surpassed all others, or at the time, it was rare to find someone who was honest and trustworthy; therefore his nature was unique and treasured as such.

There are many instances in the seerah (Prophetic biography) that illustrate the moral soundness of the Prophet Muhammad . One of these stories exemplifies the strength of the trust people had in him. It happened near the beginning of his prophethood. He summoned the people of Quraysh to the foot of a mountain and called out to them, saying: "Would you believe me if I told you an enemy host was waiting behind this hill to attack you?"

Everyone, including those who would soon become his enemies, agreed that they would believe him.

Although we may have heard this story many times, it may be difficult to grasp the true significance of that moment; an entire tribe agreed that they would prepare for a battle with an enemy they had not seen, using their precious time, and risking their resources - based on the words of one man. Allahu Akbar! (God is great) It is said that the people had so much faith in Prophet Muhammad that they would advise one another to seek his services when needed.

They would say: "If you want to entrust your wealth for safeguarding, entrust it to this trustworthy, honest man, for he will never touch it. If you look for someone who never tells a lie and never breaks his word, go directly to Muhammad, because whatever he says is true."

The best way to feel this point is to take a moment and imagine someone who you trust one hundred percent, someone you know would never hurt you, someone who would never betray your trust.

When they speak, you know that their words contained no lies; you find comfort in their presence. Most likely, this imagining will cause you to yearn for someone of this nature.

Now take a moment and change that yearning for a nameless individual, to yearning for the Prophet because this description is exactly what he was like.May God cause us to be of those who yearn to be in the presence of the Prophet Mohammed and truly make him beloved to our hearts.

A Man of Ultimate Consideration

Even at a young age, the Prophet Muhammad showed amazing consideration to those around him. Despite the lack of a steady father figure and the many trials he endured in his youth, the Prophet continued to persevere and serve those who were around him.

After the death of his grandfather, he was sent to live with his Uncle, Abu Talib. Abu Talib had many children but he always treated the Prophet Muhammad as his own and did not deprive him of what he needed. He was known to be a generous man and would always feed the pilgrims when they would come to make pilgrimage.

Because of his intense generosity, Abu Talib was poor and struggled to keep his family fed. At the young age of thirteen, Prophet Muhammad decided that he never wanted to be a burden on the shoulders of his uncle and wanted to fend for himself. In a time where being a shepherd was seen to be lowly and unrewarding, the young Prophet sacrificed his own image and became a shepherd, receiving the lowest pay possible.

He did whatever he could to make sure that his uncle did not have to struggle to keep him fed and carried his own weight around the house.

He stayed patient and rose in ranks in the work force until he became a successful business man by the age of twenty-five.

It is at this time, in a highly chauvinistic society, that Lady Khadijah hired him to work for her. Just as his ego did not prevent him from a lowly job when he needed it, again his ego did not prevent him from working for a successful woman, whom he would eventually marry.

When Prophet Muhammad did finally marry Khadijah, he did not forget the generosity of his uncle. It was not enough for him that he had carried his own weight when living with his uncle, he also wanted to give back. The Prophet returned to Abu Talib and made a noble and dignified request. He asked for one of the children of Abu Talib so that he could raise him and care for him, just as his uncle had once done for him.

Abu Talib agreed and gave him Ali, who would later be a great torch bearer of Islam.

At an age where many young men are only thinking about themselves, the Prophet was already catching every opportunity to make the lives of others easier. Had he not returned to foster one of his cousins, Abu Talib would not have been hurt. Abu Talib did not expect such a gesture; rather, it came from the pure unselfish heart of the Prophet. He was truly a man of consideration, asking for nothing in return.

A Man of Mercy

Today, often times a "religious" person is seen to be someone who is rough and rigid, spouting do's and don'ts

without thinking twice about the emotions of the person being scolded. The Prophet, however, was the farthest from any such description. He was a man who was enveloped in mercy, who cared for the weak, encouraged the women, and stood up for anyone in need.

God describes the character of the Prophet in the Quran when He says: "So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely (upon Him)." (Al-Imran 3:159) The Prophet did not only have mercy towards the men of his society at a time when women were treated very harshly, he was also busy working against this to replace it with mercy and compassion.

The men at the time of Prophet Muhammad were privileged with the opportunity to constantly be in his company, learning and growing with him. The women wanted to have such an opportunity, and being the leader that he was, the women did not feel any shyness or fear in requesting this from him. Upon request, the Prophet set aside a special time just for the women so that he could answer their questions and help them with what they needed.

There is a narration in which the Prophet was sitting amongst the women and they were talking loudly to him.

Omar came into the room and the women completely changed their demeanor.

Seeing this, the Prophet did not get angry, nor offended, nor even jealous-rather, he laughed.

Omar asked the Prophet why he laughed at their behavior and he replied that he was amazed at how the women hid the instant they heard Omar's voice! This angered Omar and he questioned the women, asking how they should fear him yet not the Prophet? Their response exemplifies the mercy that Prophet had towards these women; they responded confidently that in comparison, Omar was hot-tempered, while the Prophet was the epitome of mercy.

The Prophet's mercy was vast and inclusive. He spread it far and wide to the point that even animals could find refuge in his kindness. Of the many instances that are breathtakingly vibrant with the clemency of the Prophet is that of the helpless bird. 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud was traveling with the Prophet and a few other men. One of the men took an egg from the bird's nest. Out of despair, the bird came and flapped its wings at the Prophet, and he took immediate notice to her sad state. He turned to his companions and asked them who had made this poor bird miserable. Upon finding out that her egg had been

taken, he ordered the man to return the egg to her as a sign of mercy and compassion. At a time when many humans were not being shown kindness, the Prophet mastered kindness to mankind and was already encouraging kindness and rights for animals.

Today, we look to the lives of the companions and read their stories. Many times, it is hard to comprehend how they had so much energy and drive to do all the things that they did.

Their energy stemmed from pure Divine love which was not built through harsh reprimands or robotic movements-rather, this love was built by being in the presence of the Prophet seeing his amazing mercy and knowing that if he, the creation of God, could exhibit such mercy, then what of his Creator?

IS THERE ANYONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW MUHAMMAD, THE PROPHET OF ISLAM?

To us – Muslims – he is the revealed mercy, the bright light, the fountainhead of truth, the beacon of knowledge and religion. He is the establisher of the balance of truth when all balances tilted, the restorer of justice who gave everyone his due right, the emancipator of slaves, and the raiser of the banner of righteousness and monotheism.

Yes, he was all this and much more! He was best of the best; the ideal human being. May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!

Indeed, Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was a man who – with Allah’s Grace – became a whole ummah (i.e. nation or community) that spread over the entire world with one religion, one language, a joint history, as well as a religion-based fraternity.

As far as his social life is concerned, Prophet Muhammad was an orphan who lost not only his father, but also his mother at a young age.

Nothing could be harder than losing one’s parents at a very early age! It did not stop there as he later lost his grandfather who supported him and took good care of him as a child.

What did he do afterwards?

Did he withdraw into an isolated corner? Or, did he hide himself in a dark place? Or, did he find himself a small shell to confine himself to? No, he did not do or even think of any of these options. On the contrary, he set out – with a firm will – to defend humanity, support the weak, establish the right of the wronged, and console the injured.

Indeed, Muhammad was a single man who succeeded in creating a whole progressive ummah; he made history and wrote down lengthy pages of magnanimity, nobleness, and humaneness that have never been preceded and will never be repeated. He was successful in doing this through endeavoring to prepare his own men; the men who would shoulder the responsibility of conveying the message of Islam to the whole world; the men who

defied all forms of tyranny and injustice, whether practiced against Muslims or nonMuslims alike. They stood in the face of tyranny and sided with absolute justice, whether practiced by Muslim or nonMuslim individuals.

Men-making is one of the greatest issues that defy any educational and/or scholarly methodology.

Indeed, the method of Islam, represented in the light of revelation and the strength of faith, is the best recipe for making men and heroes. Surely, this can be done only in accordance with what is destined by the Almighty.

Islam was revealed to a community sunk in ignorance.

It brought with it a methodology that carries per se guidance, light, and goodness. It is a method that brings up righteous generations, refines their souls, helps them build civilizations, and gets man out of darkness into light. The Almighty says, (O people of the Scripture!

Now has Our messenger come unto you, expounding unto you much of that which you used to hide in the Scripture, and forgiving much. Now has come unto you light from Allah and a plain Scripture. Whereby Allah guides him who seeks His good pleasure unto paths of peace.

He brings them out of darkness unto light by His decree, and guides them unto a straight path.) (Al-Ma’idah 4:15-16) The moment one embraces Islam, one starts to feel the trust confided to him/her by the Almighty. Every single one of the Prophet’s Companions cherished the responsibility of calling for Allah and found sweet in any and all forms of torture and sacrifice. When those men devoted themselves to their faith, Allah liberated at their hands most of the territories of the inhabited world at the time. They founded a state with sovereignty, and they excelled over the Persians and the Romans.

Sayed Qutb, the late Muslim writer and thinker, says in his Dirasat Islamiyyah (Islamic Studies) under the title, Victory of Muhammad ibn `Abdallah: Muhammad won victory the day he managed to render his own companions, May Allah be pleased with them, as real faithful believers who [as all mortals] eat food and walk in the markets. He gained victory the day he made each one of them an embodied model in which people could see Islam incarnated or mirrored in.

[Verily] Texts alone can do nothing. The Qur’an cannot be effective unless it fills one with its principles, values and guidance; and, principles cannot survive until they turn into real conduct.

Hence, Muhammad’s first priority was to build men rather than deliver sermons; to formulate consciences rather than put speeches in an elegant style; to establish a whole ummah rather than create an abstract philosophy… As for the conception, this was taken care of by the Noble Qur’an per se. Muhammad’s mission was

then to turn the conception into real human beings.

Muhammad won the day when he managed to weave human beings using the fabric of Islam. When he turned their [internal] belief in Islam into action, he made many thousand copies of the Qur’an using no ink and/or papers, but, using the light [of Islam] and [their] page-like hearts. He, then, set them out to interact with all peoples in a give-andtake process that shows the latter the real essence of Islam.

Shortly, those Companions were taught by their ever-first master how to “emulate” the English proverb: Actions speak louder than words!

Truly, all this did not take place in the twinkling of an eye. Instead, it was achieved through the shedding of their blood and the spending of their most precious properties in the cause of Allah.

Following are the essentials of gaining victory and empowerment: as the faithful should (a) adhere to their firm belief, and (b) turn their internal belief into a practical reality that can be seen by the onlookers as represented in values, ethics, fair dealings, and effective acts of worship. In so doing, a Muslim becomes able to and capable of extending the just message of Islam to the whole world.

These were the things that changed the Companions of the Prophet and made them capable of making that huge leap from idolatry to leading the human race; from being the most humiliated people on earth into the most dignified ones; from an insignificant community into an ummah that leads the whole world and establishes an unprecedented civilization. It is Islam, the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad who managed to change them and turn them all into that past wonderful reality. It is their keen following of the example of the Prophet that made them capable of absorbing all that he had to teach them about the Creator, life, and the Hereafter.

Finally, many are those who graduated from the Prophet’s faith-based educational institution. They did not get degrees from western or eastern universities; rather, they were graduates of the Prophet’s men-making plant more than 1400 years ago. To cite some prime examples only, we can mention Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (the reformer), `Umar ibn Al-Khattab (the inspired leader), `Uthman ibn `Affan (the openhanded), `Ali ibn Abi Talib (the unique genius), Mus`ab ibn `Umair (the peerless ambassador), Salman Al-Farisi (the brilliant philosopher), Abu Dharr AlGhifari (the faithful ascetic), Sa`d ibn Al-Rabi` (the altruist), and many more thousands who succeeded in rendering most of the globe under the merciful and goodness-bearer banner of Islam. They managed to educate the whole world about the Lord, Allah, Who created all from nothing and Who desires nothing but their own goodness.

The Kerala government has asked the Centre to send deep search radars to help in the rescue operations. On Saturday, one Xaver radar from Northern Command and four Reeco radars from Tiranga Mountain Rescue Organisation, Delhi, were carried to Wayanad aboard an Air Force aircraft.

Over 200 people remain missing as private search and rescue firms and volunteers join rescue operations conducted by the Indian Army, Kerala Police, and emergency service units, which are now in their fifth day.

Bombay High Court protects Arijit Singh’s personality rights against unauthorized AI exploitation In a landmark decision in the unauthorized use of their likeness by artificial intelligence (AI) creators, the Bombay High Court has taken a significant step to safeguard Bollywood singer Arijit Singh’s personality rights. The court has issued a restraining order against several third parties, prohibiting them from using Singh's name, voice, mannerisms, and other personal attributes without his consent.

According to Live Law India, Justice Riyaz Chagl addressed a growing concern over the exploitation of celebrities' personal traits through advanced AI technologies.

This order is a direct response to the misuse of Singh’s voice and image by various entities seeking commercial gain without authorization.

The court has prohibited entities from using Arijit Singh's name, vocal style, photographs, and other attributes for any form of commercial or personal gain.

This restriction extends to various forms of media, including online platforms, advertisements, promotional materials, and merchandise. Importantly, it also encompasses the use of AI technologies such as voice models, voice conversion tools, digital avatars, and deepfake technologies that replicate or mimic Singh’s persona.

emphasized, “Even though freedom of speech and expression allows for critique and commentary, it does not grant the license to exploit a celebrity's persona for commercial gain.” The ruling aims to protect Singh from wrongful exploitation of his personality rights, ensuring that any AI-generated content mimicking his traits is addressed under the law.

The court's concern centres on how unauthorized AI tools can manipulate and misuse a celebrity's identity. Such tools enable the creation of counterfeit sound recordings, videos, and

other content that could potentially harm the celebrity's career and public image. Justice Chagla noted that these tools facilitate the unauthorized appropriation of a celebrity’s voice and likeness, which undermines their control over their identity.

The judge highlighted, “Making AI tools available that enable the conversion of any voice into that of a celebrity without his/her permission constitutes a violation of the celebrity's personality rights.” This observation underscores the potential risks posed by such technologies, including economic harm

and reputational damage to the celebrity involved.

The ruling addressed how the misuse of Singh’s name, voice, and image could jeopardize his livelihood.

The judge pointed out that the Defendants are drawing traffic to their platforms by capitalizing on Singh's popularity, leading to potential abuse of his personality rights.

The creation of new audio or video content in Singh's name without his consent could result in severe economic harm and jeopardize his career.

Justice Chagla observed, “These Defendants are attracting visitors / drawing traffic to their websites and/or AI platforms by capitalising on the Plaintiff's popularity and reputation, thereby subjecting the Plaintiff's personality rights to potential abuse.”

In the ongoing legal battle, Singh’s counsel, advocate Hiren Kamod, highlighted that some AI creators were using Singh’s voice and mannerisms without permission.

Additionally, Singh's image and name were being exploited on various online platforms and merchandise.

The Bombay High Court's order mandates the removal of content violating Singh's personality rights.

The court will reconvene on September 2, 2024, to review the case further and ensure compliance with the restraining order.

Ajay Devgn starrer Son of Sardaar 2 to have an extensive cast, reveal sources

While Ajay Devgn is eagerly awaiting the response for the Neeraj Pandey directorial Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, the actor also has other interesting films in the pipeline, which he has already kicked off. Among the upcoming projects is the popular action-comedy Son of Sardaar which is marking its return with a sequel and will see Devgn reunite with Sanjay Dutt. Apart from the duo, the second instalment will have Mrunal Thakur as the leading lady. However, recent reports suggest that Son of Sardaar 2 will have an extensive supporting cast.

Queensland Fiji Football Association Celebrates Memorable QBOG 2024 Tournament with Local Talents

Queensland Fiji Football Association (QFFA) celebrated the Chapaklal Pitamber Khatri and Family sponsored Queensland Battle of the Giants (QBOG) on behalf of beloved son Late Kavin Khatri, soccer tournament in a unique style with final day on Sunday 21st July 2024 at the Acacia Ridge Soccer fields.

With only local talents participating in the tournament - no guest players- all the teams prepared well and displayed remarkable performances throughout the 4-day tournament with the Open Final between Ra vs Nadi a spectacle to enjoy.

Special thanks and congratulations to each of the affiliated clubs who worked tirelessly on and off the field to ensure the QBOG 2024 was successful and memorable.

All the affiliated clubs of QFFA took part in this tournament, namely, Ba, Labasa, Lautoka, Nadi, Nadroga, RA, Rewa, Suva, and Tavua.

Whilst Team Ra emerged victors in the Opens category in a very hardfought final, Team Nadi should be tremendously proud of the performance, going down 1 nil in a late extra-time superb goal.

Earlier, Team Nadroga after a long lapse of and thirst for a QFFA trophy beat Team Ra in the Masters final, and in penalty kicks.

Before the finals, a QFFA initiative sponsored by Subway Browns Plains was introduced, for juniors to compete in a Ball and Skills competition, displaying 3 levels of skills integral to soccer development.
