WINTER was upon us and we were met with the decision of what to base this issue’s theme on. As a general rule, Winter issues usually are more holiday- oriented as you’ve already blown the doors open showing all of the new collections in the FALL/AUTUMN issues. A quandary ensued, but after a bit of thought we agreed that since we were all huge fans of music we would roll with a Music concept... What a wonderful choice! We had such a blast meeting new people from genres other than fashion. It also just so happened that this issue coincided with the 50-year reunion of the Sunset Marquis Hotel, a rock’n roll staple, and were lucky enough to attend the festivities. What luck! Here‘s wishing you a rockin’ holiday season and to all of you who contributed to this issue , we thank you from our little soulful hearts. We hope you enjoy our 7th issue.

In a triumph of modern music, the debut album “Days are Gone” from Los Angeles based sisterly trio Haim, has taken it’s place right at the top of the heap of must-have music to come out of 2013.
I
t’s insatiable groovy beats, poetic and delightfully unique vocal stylings, and a deeply retro sensibility makes this album appealing to all walks of life. I’m not kidding, not only has this been on repeat on my stereo, but I’ve been giving it as gifts to music lovers like my mom who grew up jamming to Joni Mitchell, Wilson Phillips and Fleetwood Mac. The album crosses all those t’s and then some. I was hooked from the first moment I played track one, “Falling.” The lyrics literally described my feelings as the sound took shape, “I hurl into the moment like I’m standing at the

edge, never look back, never give up.” It was with those words I dove head first into this music and was anything but disappointed. These girls are young, but certainly full of life experience and stories. They speak with authority and wisdom but share a vulnerable side which assures us, we don’t always know everything, and that’s okay, life is for the learning. They open up through the poetry of the lyrics, the dynamic and rhythmic melody lines and tight, cohesive harmonies; a sound that could only come from a group with serious play time… like, their entire lives. Since childhood, the sisters have been making music together, and from what I gather, it was always a family matter. Their parents claim to have put instruments in the hands of their babies, and thank god they did! What has manifested is a breath of fresh air to the world of musical exploration. Not only are they relatable to classic sounds, but with incredible collaborations with hit-makers like Major Lazer and Kid Cudi, and the experience of opening for great acts such as Florence and the Machine, this band is fresh and poised for takeover. I will be right there, jumping up and down like a 14 year old girl, crying, laughing and singing along to anything they want to throw at me… you can count on that. This album….Check. It’s a keeper.
