There is no doubting that this has been a rough year and its safe to say we are looking forward to turning the page into 2021. We may have worked from home, learned from home, and remodeled our home because we were sick of staying in our home, BUT not all was bad. This community is truly incredible, from complete pivots to adapting to the times and spreading good we will make it through this!

Times have been tough, but this city never ceases to amaze! Restaurants have turned from dine in to take out and family meal bundles; boutiques have started private, small shopping parties and free local delivery; the city voted to approve “to goâ€? drinks from our local bars, gyms got to go virtual with classes, and events were celebrated from the comfort of the couches with many able to join‌via Zoom of course.

She hopes this will become a destination location where people can come for tours of the creamery and farm and sample their gelato and cheese. “I want it to have like a European feel,” Maartje described. “There’s so many things like that in the Netherlands, and I would love for people to experience that here.”

ome businesses went above and beyond in generosity to help out their fellow local businesses in the coronavirus pandemic. Bismarck Motor Company made a generous contribution to the Bismarck community in 2020 that gave hope to many small businesses despite the challenges of a shutdown.

As the coronavirus began to seriously impact North Dakota, Bismarck Motor Company first ensured that they were able to take care of their employees and keep their business afloat. Then, they focused on helping the community. “At Bismarck Motor Company being good community citizens is one of our core values. We believe that without our community we would be nothing,” said Jenna Adams, brand marketing manager at Bismarck Motor Company. One of the ways Bismarck Motor Company did this at the beginning of the pandemic was by offering rental vehicles to local restaurants for free, so they could start up delivery services.

Next, Bismarck Motor Company looked

at their budget and shifted funds in order to allocate $20,000 to give back to the community by purchasing gift cards from local businesses and gifting them to frontline heroes. Moritz Sport and Marine powered by Bimsarck Motor Company donated another $10,000, bringing the total to $30,000. Jenna, along with Shaneille Ulmer, digital sales and marketing manager for Bismarck Motor Company, posted a video on Facebook asking which local businesses needed help. The response to the video was tremendous with over 300 comments suggesting deserving local businesses.

In the end, Bismarck Motor Company helped 60 different local businesses. In order to ensure that each contribution made a difference, Bismarck Motor Company bought $500 worth of gift cards from each business in $50 increments. The gift cards were then packaged into small gift bags and given to frontline heroes like hospital workers, firefighters, ambulance workers, and police officers. The feedback from local

business owners and frontline workers was overwhelming. Jenna said she had people call who would break into tears, expressing that the Bismarck Motor Company's generosity meant they were able to pay the rent or keep on an employee for another month. “It’s hard not to cry along with them, because everyone was going through the same thing. It felt really good to help people in the community,” Jenna expressed.

The same goes for the frontline workers as Jenna said, “It feels good to directly affect those who have been there for us too.” Bismarck Motor Company always had community as a core value, but Jenna said this was a totally new level. “It shows that when you spend your dollars locally and spend on small businesses, it can go such a long way.”

Bismarck Motor Company believes that what you put into a community is what you get out of it. Their generosity kept small local businesses open and exemplifies how to give back and support one another during times of strife.
