Sankofa Best Drummer Award
This award is given to the best drummer of the year, who lightens feet and keeps the beat. And who shows the most energy and creativity on the drum. Students nominate and vote for the winner.
Sankofa Unsung Hero
The recipient of this award is a student who goes beyond their primary required duties and offers great help behind the scenes. This student is always available when the program needs help getting things done. Students nominate and vote for the winner.
Sankofa Distinguished Alumni
This is an award for a Bishop McNamara High School alumni and former member of the program who has given back with their time and talent. Someone who continues to give back to the program and the community.

Students who have been part of the program since their freshmen year, either on scholarship or enrollment out of interest.
Sankofa Distinguished Parent/Guardian Booster
This award is given to a current or alumni parent who has contributed immensely to all our behind the scenes activities this year, often sacrificing time and sleep to make the show a seamless success.
Sankofa Distinguished Donor Award
This award is given to the program’s largest donor. Whilst we remain eternally grateful to all in the community who have in the past and continue to support this program through various means, this is a recognition for the awardee’s contribution to the program this year. Your generosity has helped buy sewing machines and so many other luxuries that make the work easier!
Chris Williams “Make a Difference” Award
Dr. Christopher Williams (30+ years service to Bishop McNamara High School as Global Studies teacher) lives his life with the spirit of curiosity, exploration, openness to new cultures and a true desire to understand what unites all of us. He is the reason that the program was founded when he met the director in Ghana in 1994 and worked to bring him to Bishop McNamara. This Award is in honor of his contribution to our BMHS community. The Awardee exemplifies the qualities of curiosity, exploration, and openness to new cultures, personifying what it means to embrace the spirit of Sankofa. A worthy ambassador of the program.

NINA ALLEN
Nina has been a dedicated student of the Traditional African Music and Dance program throughout her high school career. She achieved summa cum laude honors all four years, demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence alongside her many extracurricular pursuits. During her time at Bishop McNamara, Nina has participated on the cheer team and track team, and proudly serves as captain of the Step Team. With a deep passion for dance, she has applied techniques and lessons learned in her African Dance classes to strengthen and refine her Step Team practices and performances. By leading with patience and respect, she has helped elevate the team’s precision, creativity, stage presence, and overall execution – with many noting that this has been the strongest the team has ever looked. Beyond the performing arts, Nina has been involved in Leadership Initiative programs, cybersecurity and law-focused internships, and has balanced academics with work experience. She has worked as a front-of-house team member at Chick-Fil-A and as a hostess at Kobe’s Japanese Steakhouse, strengthening her communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Nina plans to attend Temple University and major in sociology as preparation for law school. She aspires to pursue a career in law and eventually enter politics, where she hopes to use her voice to advocate for the injustice of others, making meaningful and lasting change in her community. Her philosophy of life is simple: you have to move with life because it won’t stop for you. CHARLES ANTHONY
Charles has been a member of the Traditional African Music and Dance (TAMD) program for one year. He participated in the Sankofa 2024 production. Although he does not plan to pursue Fine Arts in the future, his experience in the program has strengthened his discipline and teamwork. Outside of TAMD, Charles plays lacrosse and enjoys basketball. After graduation, he plans to attend Morgan State University, Bowie State University, or Towson University to study engineering. His philosophy on life is to stay disciplined, keep improving, and learn from every experience.

AMAIYA BAPTISTE
Amaiya has been passionate about dance since the age of four. At Bishop McNamara High School, she enrolled in both Classical Dance and Traditional African Music and Dance her freshman year on scholarship and has continued studying African dance throughout her high school career. She was also a member of the Sankofa Company during her freshman, sophomore, and senior years. Beyond the dance studio, Amaiya serves as Chairman for Camp Fire Teens in Action where she leads young teens into service and leadership. In addition she holds the title of Service and Event Coordinator for both the We Are All Educators Club and the Caribbean Student Union. Driven by a commitment to service, she has volunteered to feed the homeless, tutored underprivileged children, and supported women facing domestic violence in finding their voice. Amaiya will attend Hampton University to study psychology, with the goal of providing resources like those at McNamara to children in low-income and minority communities. It is her dream to support children and build stronger communities for future generations. Donovan has been drumming for two years. He enrolled in the Traditional African Music and Dance program his junior year. He performed in the Sankofa production of OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle. In sports, Donocan has been heavily involved in football, playing on the varsity team all four years. He earned the honor of Second Team All Conference his junior year. After graduation, Donovan will hopefully attend Howard or Salisbury University and pursue a career in business management, sports marketing, and football. KAYA BENJAMIN
This is Kaya’s first Sankofa production at Bishop McNamara. She has been involved in Theatre her whole high school career; she participated as part of the vocal ensemble in the 2025 Fall Musical, The Wiz, 2022’s Little Women, and the principal role of Grace Farrell in 2024 Annie. She is a four year summa cum laude student, Senior Class PR Officer, and is a member of National Honor Society (NHS), National English Honor Society (NEHS), National Science Honor Society (NSHS), Rho Kappa Honor Society, Poetry Club, The WAAE, and Black Stage and Screenwriters Association, which she founded her sophomore year. She plans to major in human biology on a pre-dental track in college. BRAYDEN BOSTON
Brayden has been a percussionist since he was in fifth grade. Brayden enrolled in the Band and Orchestra program, and he has been a member of the Percussion Ensemble since his freshman year. Brayden began in the introductory level Honors Concert Band, then progressed to Honors Symphonic Band, and he is now in the top-level Honors Wind Ensemble. Brayden also joined Pep Band during his senior year. As a member of the Traditional African Music & Dance III program, Brayden is looking forward to participating as a drummer in the 2026 Sankofa Production of TRUTH: An American Icon. Brayden has participated in the Fine Arts Christmas Festival and several Concert Band, Symphonic Band & Percussion Concerts. Later this Spring, Brayden will be participating in the String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble Concert. Brayden has also served as a student ambassador for the Washington Archdiocesan Music Teachers Council (WAMTC) Elementary Band Festival and he has competed in the Prince George’s County Solo and Ensemble Festivals and the Prince George’s County Music Festivals. In addition, Brayden is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Fine Arts Diploma Endorsement (F.A.D.E.) program, and the McNamara Emerging Leadership Training (M.E.L.T.) program. In 2023, Brayden was the recipient of the BHMS Holy Cross Service Program Student Service Award. His favorite digital art projects are his Photo Illustration of Chadwick Boseman and his Cereal Box of Universe O’s Cereal. Brayden’s most treasured band memories are attending the Fine Arts Music Trips to Disney World in Florida, Busch Gardens in Virginia, and New York City. Brayden has enjoyed and cherished his time at BMHS. One of his favorite quotes is, “A setback is just a setup for a comeback” by motivational speaker Willie Jolley. KENNEDY BOWEN
Kennedy Bowen has been dancing since she was five years old. She has been a part of the Classical Dance program all four years, and is an honors dance student. Kennedy is a member of the Honors Sankofa Company, and has been a part of the Sankofa Company for the past three years. Most recently, Kennedy participated in this year’s fall musical, The Wiz, as a part of the dance ensemble. Outside of dance, Kennedy is involved in multiple academic honor societies such as the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. MADISON BRIDGES
Madison Bridges is a talented young woman and proud member of the graduating senior class at Bishop McNamara. Though this is her first year participating in the Traditional African Music & Dance program, Madison has been a part of the overall Fine Arts program at BMHS throughout all four years of high school and her passion for the arts has continued to grow and flourish every day. She has had the pleasure of performing in the ensemble for the 2022 Fall Musical Little Women, participating as a saxophonist in the Honors Concert Band, and performing at the annual Fine Arts Christmas Festival as a member of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Outside of Fine Arts, Madison has immersed herself in the many clubs and organizations available at school, serving as a member of four honors societies as well as President of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honors Society, co-founder of the Closer 2 God (C2G) Fellowship, member of the BMHS Peer Ministry program, Captain of the Varsity Cross Country team, and much more. Postgraduation, Madison intends to study marine biology and ecology at the University of Miami, pursuing a career as a scientific scuba diver and coral physiologist. One of her firmest beliefs is in being a voice for the voiceless and advocating for the natural and social communities that have been ignored by society. Leah was a part of two musical productions at BMHS; The Wiz as Aunt Em (2025) and Guys and Dolls, playing a Hot Box girl. She has taken four AP classes and counting. Leah is also the President of the National Art Honors Society at Bishop McNamara, a member of Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honors Society, the Science National Honors Society, a member of the W.A.A.E. club, and a member of the Senior Class Cabinet. This past summer, she accepted a Public Health and Medical Advanced internship with Leadership Initiatives, working with a team to create a workshop for the prevention of typhoid fever in Bauchi, Nigeria. She studied four diseases and interviewed, diagnosed, and treated a patient in Nigeria via Zoom. Karina just enrolled in the Traditional African Music & Dance program this year. She has been a part of the Fine Arts program since her freshman year. Throughout her McNamara years she has been a part of the Band program and a member of the Wind Ensemble for the past three years, where she plays the tuba. She has performed in the Christmas Festival and in the WAMTC Honor Ensemble for the past two years. Outside of Fine Arts, she is also involved in numerous clubs, societies, sports, and programs including; being a defender on the Women’s Lacrosse Team, the manager of the Varsity Girl’s Soccer Team, a member of the F.A.D.E. program, Pep Band, Science Honor Society and many more. She plans to attend college and major in criminology with a minor in psychology with the intention to get her Masters in forensic psychology later on. Michael Dickerson, or Mj, has been a part of the Traditional African Music and Dance program for two years, while also balancing school and swimming. He is going to go to Temple University to major in cyber security. He has learned many lessons through TAMD but the main one is hard work and dedication. Most of his life he would give up or quit if he wasn’t naturally good at something. Staying with TAMD instead of transferring out was one the best decisions he made. Watching himself slowly improve was a deeply satisfying experience, because he’s never grown slowly at a skill before. His time in TAMD changed his perspective about doing what he’s not the best at. Jayla-Skye has been dancing since she was four years old. Inspired by the captivating performances of the Traditional African Music and Dance (TAMD) program during school assemblies and productions, she joined the program during her junior year. She performed in the Classical Dance production of HERstory during her freshman year, as well as the Sankofa production OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle. Beyond dance, Jayla-Skye has been actively involved at Bishop McNamara as secretary of the Women’s Empowerment Club and a member of the Social Justice Club. She has also been honored with two St. Andre awards, recognizing her companionship and collaboration with classmates. Outside of school, Jayla-Skye has served as an assistant basketball coach for 10-12 year old girls since her sophomore year, empowering young women both on and off the court. She hopes to continue her passion for dance at Towson University while majoring in business administration and marketing, using her talent and passion for dance to create a sense of community and cultural expression that inspires others. MAJOR FIELDS
Freshman year, Major was on the shift crew for Little Women, performed as a Soldier in The Mouse That Roared, and during his Sophomore year he was Big Jule in Guys and Dolls. In the fall of his junior year he was Oliver Warbucks in Annie; this was the first time Major has ever had a solo. Major had a fear of singing in front of people; he assumed he wasn’t any good at singing but playing in Annie gave him a new opportunity to try something new. In the spring of his junior year, Major played the role of Mr. Boddy in Clue. Now this is Major’s final year here at Bishop McNamara and he plans to go out with a bang; so to expand his skills he has received a role of a narrator in TRUTH: An American Icon. This would be Major’s first time doing anything with Sankofa. Major has taken Introduction Theatre, Acting class, Honors Great Stages of Drama, and Concert Choir. Major is also a part of Chamber Choir, Show Choir, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble. He was also inducted into The International Thespian Honor Society. Major intends to take his acting career professionally. KENNEDY FLEMING
Kennedy is extremely passionate about tap dancing, and has had great accomplishments through the art. At McNamara, she has been in the Classical Dance program for all four years as a part of the Tap track, performed in the musical Annie her junior year, and has been part of Traditional African Music & Dance for the past two school years. As part of the Traditional African Music and Dance program, she has performed in OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle, and is drumming this year in TRUTH: An American Icon. She is also part of National Honor Society and National Honor Society for Dance Arts. She heavily prioritizes her academics and has maintained summa cum laude all four years. Outside of school, dance, and drumming, she enjoys playing sports, baking, and spending time with her little brother, Kendrick. After high school, she plans to attend college to study kinesiology with a concentration in pre-physical therapy while continuing her tap training at a professional level. She also hopes to one day start her own tap dancing company. Her personal motto is, “Philippians 4:13 KJV - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me,” as her grandmother had instilled that in her at a very early age. London has been dancing since the age of five and has trained in many different styles. During her eighth-grade year, she had the opportunity to audition for a Traditional African Music and Dance scholarship, which she was awarded in her freshman year. London has now been a part of the Traditional African Music and Dance program for four years and a member of the Sankofa Company for three years. In recognition of her dedication and excellence in the program, she is also a member of the F.A.D.E. program at McNamara. In addition to dance, London is also a cheerleader, balancing both passions while maintaining her commitment to excellence. After high school, she plans to attend North Carolina Central University, where she will major in Business with the goal of earning her MBA. JOURNEY GARDNER
Journey has been dancing since she was three years old. She has participated in competition dance in styles such as tap, jazz, hiphop, contemporary, and ballet. She joined her middle school hiphop team and enrolled in the Traditional African Music and Dance program as a scholarship awardee in her freshman year. She performed in the Sankofa productions of YAA ASANTEWAA & The Battle for the Golden Stool, MAYA, The Phenomenal Woman, OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle, and TRUTH: An American Icon. Journey credits the program for a great high school experience. She has learned different techniques, made lifelong friends, and explored how to express herself creatively through dance. She was nervous at the start and needed to confront the challenge a bit through the years and this has instilled in her the importance of patience and perseverance. Journey is so grateful for the bonds she has made through this program and will carry the lessons she has learned throughout her life. She hopes to continue well into her adulthood and will forever be grateful for the cultural enrichment and a positive contribution the arts have provided in her high school experience. KEY’ONTAE GLENN
Key’ontae has been immersed in the creative world all his life. From running his photography business to leading the Traditional African Music and Dance program drum core, despite his late start in the program. Key’ontae joined the African Dance program his junior year, in which he not only drummed, but also danced and acted as a lead character, Cassio, in 2025’s OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle. He has been in the African dance program for two years. Throughout his career, Key’ontae has been an important asset to the football team, being named an All-WCAC twice, involved in the class cabinet, the National Honors Society, and received various honors for his prestigious academic achievements. Key’ontae is unsure of his college plans but holds acceptances from Penn State, Towson, Old Dominion, and Marshall, with more unnamed and others to come. Wherever he attends college, he plans to bring African dance with him, potentially starting a program of his own at his college. TYLER HAWKINS
Tyler has been drumming since the age of eight. Early on he played multiple instruments, but as he got older he focused on drums and piano. During his four years at McNamara he participated in the Band program, which included the school’s Honors Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. His junior year, he added another fine art to his schedule: Traditional African Music & Dance. Joining the African Dance II class, he played the Doundounba his first year in the program and knew he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to stay another year. In his second and final year with the program he switched to playing the Djembe for African Dance III. Tyler plans to attend Morgan State University as a civil engineering major, but also wants to continue his passion for music which includes Traditional African Music. Tyler selected Adinkra’s Wawa Aba, a symbol of hardiness, toughness, and perseverance.

This is Chayse’s second and third years with Traditional African Music & Dance and Sankofa Company, respectively. MYLES HINES
Myles has been drumming since he was just four years old. He enrolled in the Concert Band program during his freshman and sophomore years. In his sophomore year, he also joined the Jazz Ensemble as a drummer. Then his junior year was moved up from the Concert Band to the Wind Ensemble. During that year, Myles planned to join the Traditional African Music and Dance community, but a scheduling conflict prevented him from doing so. He finally joined the program during his senior year. Throughout his McNamara years, he has been involved in the school’s football and track teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and has been commissioned as a peer minister. After graduation, Myles plans to attend North Carolina A&T and pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Elijah has previously done work on the tech crew for past Sankofa productions, but this is his first year onstage as part of the Sankofa Company. Since his freshman year, Elijah has been on the tech crew for other Fine Arts productions such as the Winter Musical, Spring Play, Classical Dance production, and the Christmas Festival. He’s also in the school’s Tap program and has performed in the Classical Dance production DANCE SENSATIONS during his senior year. Throughout high school, he has remained involved around his school community as the National Honor Society president, the We Are All Educators organization’s Vice President, a Peer Minister, and a Class Cabinet member. He is also a member of both the Thespian and Science Honor Societies. Outside of school, Elijah deeply enjoys film, music, and playing the saxophone. Elijah is currently undecided regarding college, but he plans to go and study biology in order to achieve his goal of becoming an orthodontist. Elijah lives by the saying, “qué será, será,” meaning “what will be, will be.” To him, this means embracing life’s challenges and turning them into something positively meaningful. Andre has been part of the TAMD program for three years. He is currently preparing for TRUTH: An American Icon, which will be his senior year production. Throughout his time at McNamara, Andre has stayed active both in and out of school. He volunteers at his church and helps his community by providing food and support to families in need. He also enjoys creative projects connected to hip-hop culture.
After graduation, Andre is considering attending Louisiana State University or Florida A&M University. He plans to study business and hopes to continue growing creatively, give back to his community, and make a positive impact wherever he goes. Zuri Kenyatte has been studying African dance since she was three in the Farafina Kan Junior Company. She served as stage manager for multiple BMHS productions, is vice president of the Poetry Club, captain of the Taratibu Youth Association, and a member of National Thespian Honor Society. Along with this, she is a member of the Psych and ASL clubs. She currently interns at Roots Public Charter School as a Teacher’s Aide. Outside of the Arts, Taliah has served as Junior Class President and Public Relations Officer during her sophomore and freshman years. She is a member of the Fine Arts Diploma Endorsement program (F.A.D.E.), the National Honor Society (NHS), the National English Honor Society, (NEHS), Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, and the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA), where she serves as Vice President. She is currently the Executive Student Body President. Taliah is a classically trained dancer, proficient in Pointe, holds a Certified Cecchetti Ballet (Grade 5) certification, and practices Advanced Jazz and Senior Tap. She is a member of the Dance Expressions (DE) Studio Company team, dedicating over fifteen hours each week to refining her skills in these genres. At Dance Expressions, she also serves as a Student Apprentice, assisting teachers with instruction and class activities, including young dancers ages four to twelve while serving as an active student and role model for dancers. Dance has not only shaped Taliah’s discipline but also her character. It has taught her patience through repetition, resilience through setbacks, and pride through perseverance. Dance has also instilled in the importance of consistency, expression, and the quiet strength of showing up even when no one is watching. “It’s my therapy, my joy, and one of the truest parts of me.” Taliah will attend Spelman College and study political science on the pre-law track. His involvement in Bishop McNamara’s extracurriculars include the Fiction Writing Club, Pep Band, and WCAC, along with various other clubs and organizations. While this is his second Sankofa production, he seeks to continue bringing stories to life in college and beyond. Through dance, Ashley has strengthened her discipline, love for dance, cultural pride, and commitment to preserving African-American heritage. While she plans to pursue a career in medicine, she hopes to continue engaging in the arts throughout college as a way to remain grounded in culture and creative expression. Outside of dance, Ashley is a player on the Varsity Girl’s Tennis Team, earning the Coaches’ Award in 2025 for her dedication and hard work on the team. She serves as Vice President of the African Student Association, Secretary of the Pre-Health Careers Club, Activities Chair of Rho Kappa Honor Society, and as an active member in the National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, and M.E.L.T. (McNamara Emerging Leadership Training). Through all these roles, Ashley has built community and learned the value of hard work, all while maintaining academic excellence. Passionate about addressing disparities in healthcare, she plans to major in neuroscience on a pre-medicine track at the University of Rochester under a full-tuition Posse Scholarship. Amara joined the Sankofa African Dance program during her senior year. Through Sankofa, she has enjoyed reconnecting with her love for dance while learning traditional African movement and drumming. She performed in the Sankofa production TRUTH: An American Icon. Amara is also a violinist in the Bishop McNamara Strings Ensemble, performing in the annual Winter Concert and other orchestra events. In college, she hopes to continue developing her musical and artistic talents. In addition to the arts, Amara has been a dedicated track athlete throughout high school and is a member of both the Science National Honor Society and the National Honor Society. She is also the founder and owner of her small business, Sweetology’s Treats, where she combines creativity with entrepreneurship. Passionate about serving her community, Amara plans to attend Spelman College or North Carolina State University to study biochemistry, with the goal of pursuing a career in skincare product development and business. Hadassah has been a devoted member of the Traditional African Music and Dance program for three years. Since joining as sophomore, she has performed in Sankofa productions MAYA, The Phenomenal Woman and OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle Through this program, Hadassah has grown in her understanding of Traditional African Music and Dance and has developed a new found respect for every cultural aspect of it. While she plans to pursue a career in law, she hopes to continue to learn more about African dance in the future and educate others on its beauty. Apart from dance, and throughout her time at McNamara, Hadassah is now a 4-year member of the Varsity Women’s Soccer Team, serving as Head Captain. She proudly serves as Co-Founder of Bishop McNamara’s very first African Student Association, a committed Peer Minister, striving to uplift and support her school community, and is an active member in the National Honor Society. Through her leadership, Hadassah has cultivated a supportive community grounded in academic excellence. Motivated to combat systemic injustice, Hadassah plans to study criminal justice on a pre-law track at Pennsylvania State University and hopefully attend University of Chicago Law School after her undergraduate years. Maya Stewart has been dancing since she was very young, from ballet, to cheering for the Redskins, to the Bishop McNamara stage. She joined the Traditional African Music and Dance program during her junior year, which she regretted because of how much she enjoys the class. Throughout her time at McNamara, Maya has been involved in Student Council, the WAAE Club, theater her freshman and sophomore year, WMAC, or McNamara’s broadcast journalism, Rho Kappa Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and was volleyball manager for four years. After graduation, Maya plans to attend Hampton University with a major in nursing to pursue her career as a labor and delivery nurse and a minor in history to strengthen her research abilities.

Since her sophomore year, Taylor has been actively involved in Bishop McNamara’s Traditional African Music and Dance group. Before joining African Dance, she had training in Ballet and Tap, but later transitioned to gymnastics, which significantly enhanced her strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance for African Dance. Taylor has displayed her talent in the last two Sankofa Productions, participating in performances such as MAYA, The Phenomenal Woman and OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle. Throughout her time at Bishop McNamara, Taylor has been extensively involved in various activities, including the Student-Athlete Leadership Council, M.E.L.T. Leadership program, The WAAE Club, Senior Class Cabinet, F.A.D.E., Cheer Team, My Hair My Crown Club, ASL Honor Society, ASL Club Vice President, Theater Technical Team, TAMD, and she recently co-founded the BMHS Psychology Club. In addition to her school activities, Taylor has been a member of her church’s dance team and choir since the age of five. Furthermore, she has dedicated her time to volunteering every other Saturday at Corinth Baptist Church’s food bank, starting from her freshman year. While she is still undecided, Taylor has narrowed her university choices down to North Carolina Central University, Hampton University, or Southern University, with plans to major in psychology to pursue her passion for helping others. NarDre’ has been part of the Mustang community for four years. He joined the Traditional African Music and Dance (TAMD IV) program during his senior year and previously participated in the Theatre program, performing in the spring production of The Mouse That Roared during his freshman year. Beyond Fine Arts, NarDre’ has received summa cum laude all four years and has received awards of Outstanding Achievement in English and Math. He has been deeply involved in student leadership and school activities. He has served as a Peer Minister, played Varsity Football and Varsity Men’s Lacrosse, and is a dedicated member of the Senior Class Cabinet. He is a member of the Black Cultural Alliance Club, and he also loves to write poetry. After graduation, NarDre’ plans to attend Hampton University where he will major in cybersecurity and information systems, and continue his football career. NarDre’ is a major advocate for mental health and preaches, “it is okay to not be okay, and never be afraid to reach out for help.” His philosophy on life is based on a famous quote from his favorite rapper and poet Tupac Shakur: “Through every dark night, there’s a bright day after that. So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out, keep your head up, and handle it.” NarDre’ selected Nia Onnim (knowledge, life-long education, and continued quest for knowledge), as his Adinkra Symbol.

XAVIER TIMMONS
Xavier has been enrolled in the Traditional African Music and Dance program since his junior year and participated in the Band from freshman to sophomore year. He has been involved in the Christmas Festival every year, and last year marked his first year participating in Traditional African Music and Dance. Xavier plans to continue playing African drumming throughout the rest of his time in school, in addition to playing the traditional drum set. He enjoys playing soccer, listening to music, and spending time with his dog. Xavier hopes to major in business or digital media at a small Division II or III school, which will allow him to continue playing soccer. A quote he lives by is, “Respect is universal, but it is not earned; it’s taken.” Xavier selected Nia Onnim (knowledge, life-long education, and continued quest for knowledge), as his Adinkra Symbol.

KAELA WALKER
Kaela has been dancing since she was a little girl with big dreams. During her time at Bishop McNamara, she has participated in the Dance Team and Classical Dance program, performing in notable productions such as Spirit of Dance 2024, HERstory, DANCE SENSATIONS, and TRUTH: An American Icon. This is also her first year being part of the Traditional African Music & Dance/Sankofa program. Kaela is involved in several school organizations, including NHSDA (National Honor Society for Dance Arts), the AIEM Club (Aspiring Influencers/Entertainers of McNamara), My Hair My Crown Club, Investment & Philanthropy Club, and the Closer 2 God Fellowship. Her involvement reflects her dedication to leadership, creativity, and community. Moving forward, Kaela plans to major in business administration/entrepreneurship at Towson University. She has hopes of becoming a successful licensed cosmetologist and running her own beauty business. Her philosophy on life is, “Continue walking with God and to lead in ways that inspire others to do the same.” Kaela selected Sankofa (Go back and get it! A symbol for the wisdom of learning from the past to build for the future) as her Adinkra Symbol.

CY’MONE WILLIAMS
Cy’Mone has been dancing since the age of three. She has been in the Classical Dance program since freshman year and joined Sankofa Company during her senior year. During her time at McNamara, she has been on the Dance Team during her junior year, Class Cabinet for two years, Pre-Health Careers Club, and also a part of Black Cultural Alliance. She is a member of F.A.D.E. (Fine Arts Diploma Endorsement program) and Nationals Honors Society for Dance Arts. When she graduates she wants to pursue a career in Health Sciences. Her philosophy on life is, “Don’t allow others to try and change you.” Cy’Mone selected Sankofa (Go back and get it! A symbol for the wisdom of learning from the past to build for the future) as her Adinkra Symbol.

ETHNAN WILLIAMS
Ethnan has increasingly developed a significant amount of love towards African dance as a whole between junior and senior year. He performed in the Sankofa production OLETO, The Albin of Vencalle as a drummer and revived a senator role. In school, he is involved in multiple clubs, class cabinet, and participated in M.E.L.T. After graduation, he plans to attend The University of Maryland and major in computer science but wants to specialize in cybersecurity. Ethnan selected the Adinkra symbol, Funtumfunefu Denkyemfunefu (A symbol of unity in diversity giving a common destiny; sharing).

Tru Wooten is a senior and this is his first year in TAMD. Throughout his McNamara years, he has been involved in Football, Basketball, Track and Field, Student Athlete Leadership Council, and a Student Ambassador. After graduation, Tru is going to continue his football career and major in sports management. His philosophy on life is, “Failures are lessons.” Tru selected Wawa Aba (hardiness, toughness, and perseverance) as his Adinkra symbol.
