Celebrant: Most Rev. Robert J. Brennan Bishop of Brooklyn Everett J. Wilson ‘91 - Bishop Loughlin Performing and Visual Arts Chairperson Entrance Processional - Gather Us In Here in this place, new light is streaming, now is the darkness, vanished away, see in this space our fears and our dreamings, brought here to you in the light of this day. Gather us in, the lost and forsaken; gather us in, the blind and the lame; call to us now, and we shall awaken, we shall arise at the sound of our name. We are the young, our lives are a mystery; we are the old, who yearn for your face, we have been sung throughout all of history, called to be light to the whole human race. Gather us in, the rich and the haughty; gather us in, the proud and the strong; give us a heart so meek and so lowly, give us the courage to enter the song. Here we will take the wine and the water, here we will take the bread of new birth, here you shall call your sons and your daughters, call us anew to be salt for the earth. Give us to drink the wine of compassion, give us to eat, the bread that is you; nourish us well, and teach us to fashion lives that are holy and hearts that are true.
Opening Prayer First Reading: Ephesians 1: 3-6, 11-12 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as God chose us in him, before the world began, to be holy and without blemish before him. In love God destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will, for the praise of the glory of the grace that God granted us in the beloved. In Christ we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to his will, so that we might exist for the praise of God’s glory; we who first hoped in Christ. The Word of the Lord. Thanks Be To God. Responsorial Psalm: “You are the highest honor of our race.” Blessed are you daughter, by the Most High God, above all women on earth; and blessed be the Lord God, the creator of heaven and earth. (R) Your deed of hope will never be forgotten by those who tell of the might of God. (R) Alleluia: Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.
The Lord be with you. Response: And with your spirit. A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Luke Response: Glory to you, Lord. Gospel: Luke 1: 39-47 Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leapt for joy. Blessed are you who have believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Homily
Prayer of the Faithful Opening Prayer (Bishop Brennan) As we gather today to celebrate one hundred years of grace, learning and sisterhood, let us bring our prayers before the Lord who guides our steps in every season. Reader - Our response is: Lord hear our prayer. For our Holy Father, Leo, our Bishop Robert, our priests and church leaders, may they guide us with wisdom and love, and inspire faithful service in communities worldwide. Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord hear our prayer. For our hundred-year legacy of Bishop McDonnell High School, we give thanks and praise to God for the faith, wisdom, and friendships formed within its walls. Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer. For the religious sisters, priests and lay teachers, who sacrificed to build our school and sustain it, may their vision and dedication to Catholic Education continue to bear fruit in our lives. Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer. For all our alumnae gathered here today, and those united with us in spirit, may the bonds of our youth keep us united in faith, hope and love. May the values taught us in high school, make us instruments of peace and justice in our families and communities. Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer. For all of our deceased classmates, faculty and benefactors, may they rest in the eternal peace and joy of God’s heavenly kingdom. We pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
For all those who tragically lost their lives on 9-11, may they dwell in the peace and light of God’s heavenly kingdom and for all who still struggle with fear, pain or loss from that tragedy, may they find compassionate support, understanding and peace in their communities. Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer. For our world, torn by violence and sorrow, may God soften every heart and guide us all to lasting peace. Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer. For all of our military, police, firefighters, and first responders who help protect us and keep us safe from harm. We pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer. For all the prayers we hold in the silence of our hearts. Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
Offertory Hymn: Make Me a Channel of Your Peace Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord And where there's doubt, true faith in you. Make me a channel of your peace Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope Where there is darkness, only light And where there's sadness, ever joy. Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled as to console To be understood as to understand To be loved as to love with all my soul. Make me a channel of your peace It is in pardoning that we are pardoned In giving of ourselves that we receive And in dying that we're born to eternal life. Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled as to console To be understood as to understand To be loved as to love with all my soul.
