Gardens opened to the public THURCASTON AND Cropston’s popular open garden weekend in June raised funds for the county Air Ambulance. This year 22 gardens were open, and garden owners were on hand to welcome visitors, give information about plants and flowers, and generally encourage visitors to enjoy their own gardens. As always, there was a varied mix of gardens on view, large and small, formal and relaxed. Some have water features, vegetable plots, and wildlife areas. Other Open Garden essentials were also available: ice cream for sale, lots of plants to buy, and, of course, tea and cake to enjoy. There was a book and plant sale at All Saints Church, and original artwork by local artist John Crewe was on show in the Memorial Hall on Anstey Lane.
