The View Hill House is freestanding on a greenfield site. The building is not a ‘house’ but two enormous metal sticks surmounting the hill: rectilinear tubes set at right angles to each other, one posed above the other and cantilevering impossibly in each direction. It is like a giant piece of sculpture; and is similar in scale and just as mysterious as the large-scale land art of Walter de Maria and Mary Miss.
