New WJTA Vacuum Technology Short Course, November 1, 2022, New Orleans

JTA has announced a comprehensive new preconference program covering industrial and municipal vacuum equipment, technology, safety, and applications. The short course will be held November 1, 2022, in New Orleans, prior to the November 2-3 WJTA Conference & Expo.

This course is modeled on the popular Waterjet Technology Basics & Beyond Short Course, which has been presented every two years in conjunction with the WJTA Conference since the 1980s. With the cancellation of the 2021 WJTA Conference & Expo, the waterjet short course was converted into a virtual presentation.

The Vacuum Technology Short Course is intended for anyone with an interest in mobile vacuum equipment, including contractors, municipalities, asset owners, manufacturers,

suppliers, consultants, researchers, and engineers. The curriculum is suitable for those new to the industry but presents material that will be valuable even for experienced industry veterans.

Call for Abstracts Opens for 2022 WJTA Conference

T

he WaterJet Technology Association invites researchers and industry professionals to submit abstracts for presentation at the 2022 WJTA Conference & Expo being held in-person November 2-3, 2022, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

This is a unique opportunity to meet and discuss the newest research, applications, best practices and technology with colleagues from around the world who are actively involved in ongoing technological developments and applications. We welcome abstracts relating to waterjet cutting/machining; waterjet cleaning; vacuum conveyance/ air mover technology; hydro or pneumatic/air excavation; industrial cleaning and related service lines; surface prep/coating removal; hydrodemolition; novel fluid-jet

applications; safety; jet dynamics and modelling; robotics/ automation; and market and future needs.

March 31, 2022 is the deadline for abstract submission. Abstracts accepted for presentation will be scheduled during the technical sessions on November 2-3. Accepted papers will be published in the 2022 WJTA Conference Proceedings.

Message from the President

I

t’s easy for those in our industry to feel like they’re working in a bubble, isolated from related people and companies, which is why WJTA membership is so important.

The WJTA not only wishes everyone a very happy 2022, but we also propose a call to action for the new year to increase membership to ensure the organization’s health. If there’s anyone you believe the WJTA can benefit, recruit, recruit, recruit! We are on a mission to encourage greater engagement from existing members as well as attract new ones.

Of course, the major question non-members ask is ‘What’s in it for me?’ Personally, joining the WJTA years ago was an eye-opening experience. I realized how many things people in our industry struggle with in common on an ordinary basis. Chances are, other WJTA members have struggled with similar issues and these members may already provide viable solutions. This knowledge alone can save members valuable time and exceptional resources.

With the expansion of the association’s training and certification program and recent updates to the WJTA best practices and other initiatives, it’s important for contractors and asset owners to stay informed and engaged.

Membership is the best way to join WJTA’s mission to advance safety and technology in our industry through best practices, training, education, and especially networking with professionals from around the world. Additionally, WJTA members enjoy other benefits including access to our publication the Jet News, members-only online resources and discounts, just to name a few.

The WJTA offers corporate level benefits as well, such as three individual memberships including the individual class benefits and a reduction in dues for additional individual memberships after the three. Corporate members enjoy public listing on the WJTA Online Corporate Directory with logo, services description, and hyperlink to the company website. Corporate members also enjoy discounts on Jet News advertising and exhibit space at the annual WJTA Expo as well as a company membership certificate and free quarter-page advertisement in the annual print WJTA Corporate Member Directory.

A brand new WJTA membership benefit is its scholarship program, which awards four $5,000 college scholarships to WJTA members, or their spouses, dependents or even Page 6

grandchildren. These scholarships are not limited to any fields of study. Simply put, all interested members, and even those related to members, are encouraged to apply. It’s a great program just waiting for people to take advantage of it. The window for applications is still open and applicants will be notified no later than May 15, 2022.

Selection criteria include, but are not limited to scholastic achievement, community service and involvement and financial need.

The scholarships will draw from an educational fund first established through a donation by Fun-Den Wang, Ph.D., a founding member of WJTA and a recipient of WJTA’s Pioneer Award. These scholarship awards are gifts to be applied toward the cost of tuition. Recipients’ only obligation is to do their best work possible. Recipients are not obligated to repay the WJTA, but it is hoped that they, too, will help others to obtain an education when they become successful in the field of their choice.

One of the favorite benefits is the annual WJTA Conference & Expo, which is back this year following a two-year absence. A successful in-person trade show, the Expo is November 2-3, 2022, at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, and features the latest technology and products on the market. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect and reconnect with others in the industry and a fun getaway overall. Members can look forward to high pressure waterjetting, industrial vacuum and related cleaning equipment, live demonstrations, and exhibits with hands-on heavy equipment displays. We won’t forget the WJTA awards presentation and conference research papers that were scheduled for presentation last year.

The bottom line is, I had no idea the value of WJTA’s benefits before I became a member and now, I can’t imagine doing business without them. There are tools out there I didn’t know existed. Increased and engaged membership will help the WJTA meet its goal of providing and promoting best practices in health and safety for the waterjetting and industrial vacuuming industries.

“We knew this would be a significant undertaking,” said Allan Drewlo, president of Drewlo Holdings. “We’ve kept up with maintenance at all of our properties, but eventually significant updates are required to meet updated safety guidelines and changing tenant expectations. Our goal was to renovate as many structures as possible while keeping budgets, labor requirements, and tenant displacements at a minimum.”

The team identified about 80 structures, the majority of which were one- or two-level above-ground parkades. The list also included about 15 underground garages. Buildup of chloride ions from road salt and decades of wear and tear meant some of the older structures required significant repairs – removal of as much as 60% of the existing concrete in some cases.

“There was a lot of variability from structure to structure,” said Robert Reynolds, special project manager for Drewlo. “Each site presented its own challenges as well as the overall logistical hurdles that come with a project of this magnitude.”

With the resulting schedule, crews would tackle the oldest and most damaged structures first.

Long-Term Parking Solutions First and foremost, Reynolds and his team had to contend with the hefty price tag that comes with such a large project. Minimizing costs would be critical for overall Page 10

Speed seemed to be the next biggest hurdle. Crews would have to work fast – not just for the sake of the tenants, but because this was only one of several concurrent projects.

With an estimated average removal of 15,000 square feet (1,393.5 square meters) on the smaller above-ground structures and 50,000-square feet (4,645.2 square meters) for the larger underground garages, the property manager needed to maximize productivity with minimal labor.

“Drewlo has always seen the value in investing in potential, whether it be people or technology,” Reynolds said. “When we sat down to crunch the numbers, we realized jackhammers and large crews weren’t the answer.

We would basically end up rebuilding the structures at a huge cost both in terms of time and money.”

After discussing their situation with Aquajet team members at a tradeshow, Drewlo decided hydrodemolition provided an innovative solution that would minimize overhead costs and provide a safer, less physical alternative for employees. The impact-free process cleans and descales rebar without damaging it, saving Drewlo an estimated $40,000 per structure. Additionally, the water-based method doesn’t cause microfractures in the remaining concrete, which helps maintain structural stability for longer lasting repairs. The Aquajet equipment would also greatly reduce crew requirements, which would allow Drewlo to work fast while keeping its team small.

Canadian Developer Sees Long-Term Benefit in Hydrodemolition from page 10 Working with Aquajet, Drewlo decided an Aqua Cutter 710V with Rotolance 1000 attachment and Power Pack 700 would provide the necessary productivity to keep the renovation project on schedule. Using the Rotolance 1000 attachment, Drewlo crews can maximize removal in less damaged areas by only taking off a shallow layer of concrete. The tool covers a surface diameter as wide as 14 inches (360 millimeters) and can provide production rates in excess of 1,500 square feet (139.4 square meters) per hour. For the structures with heavily damaged concrete the team would need to remove a depth of 3–3.5 inches (7.6–8.9 centimeters). The Aqua Cutter 710V could provide up to 18,700 psi.

Success in the Short-Term Working around tenants presented the final challenge to Drewlo’s team. The structures had to remain open for parking. Noise restrictions meant crews could only work between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. while the majority of tenants were out of the building. Vibrations also needed to be limited to maintain structural integrity since some structures were connected to the apartment towers and all were multi-level. Here again, hydrodemolition presented an

ideal solution that exceeded the expectations of both crews and residents in terms of parking disruptions.

“Hydrodemolition isn’t what a lot of tenants were picturing when we informed them of renovations,” Reynolds said. “There was the expected concern for noise, dust and restricted access. However, when we began removal with the Aquajet equipment, tenants were impressed by how quiet it was. We are averaging about 78 dB close to the machine with much lower dB away from the equipment.”

Marcel Huard, construction supervisor and site foreman, was Drewlo’s first Aquajet certified operator. He learned on-site as part of the commissioning of the new equipment.

Huard is an industry veteran with 20 years of experience in concrete restoration. A second operator was recently added to the team, as well. Fabio Baldinelli is a 19-year-old construction apprentice just starting his career. Baldinelli displayed an aptitude and interest in the hydrodemolition method, prompting Drewlo to single him out for training.

The robot can be up to 400 feet (121.9 meters) away.

To keep parking open for tenants, Drewlo sets up the renovation in four stages per structure. The crew erects netting and tarps around the active work area to minimize debris movement into active parts of the structure, while wastewater is collected using a sump system that allows it to settle before being passed through four fine filters and eventually released in the storm drain.

“Using hydrodemolition, we’re able to complete renovations in five months to a year, depending on the structure,” Reynolds said. “Any alternative method would have increased the timeline, the labor demands and the budget.”

Description of Incident The operator was using a gun connected to a rotary jetting rigid lance encapsulated within a 3.6m core hole. The hose to gun joiner fitting failed allowing the hose and shroud assembly to strike the operator on the right forearm. This resulted in a deep laceration that required sutures.

Equipment Used UHPWJ pump, rotary jet, rigid lance, hose shroud, hoses, joiners, and hose restraints.

Industry Best Practices for the Use of High Pressure Waterjetting Equipment

Careful and prudent Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) selection and use must be implemented to protect workers from waterjet hazards while not creating new hazards.

5.4 Hearing Protection – Waterjets Figure 4. Hearing protection. generate considerable noise, both in air and under water. Therefore, all workers within a work area where the noise exposure is greater than 85 dBA shall wear hearing protection (Figure 4). In certain circumstances double hearing protection may be required (refer to OSHA standard 29CFR1910.95 for additional guidance). Hearing protection devices should be regularly inspected, properly maintained, and comply with appropriate federal and/or state regulatory standards. Noise levels should be measured to determine the level of hearing protection required.

5.1 Compliance (for work subject to the rules of government entities) – All personnel shall follow applicable government regulations for personal protective equipment.

5.2 Head Protection – All operators shall be issued suitable head protection which shall be worn at all times while at the worksite (Figure 3). Where possible, head protection should include a full face shield.

5.3 Eye Protection – Eye protection must provide the protection needed and must be properly fitted to the worker.

Eye protection shall be worn by all high pressure waterjet equipment operators and Figure 3. Head protection. all visitors in the barricaded working area. Minimum eye protection shall include a full face shield and safety glasses (some states and countries have their own eye protection rules that shall be followed). All eye protection shall meet appropriate ANSI requirements for that type of eye protection. Dark tinted safety glasses may not be worn indoors, during vessel entry, during times of limited visibility, or at night time.

Note: In some cases, liquids may be in use that can cause eye damage. In those cases a combination face shield and goggles (in lieu of safety glasses) or a full hood with shield shall be used. A face shield shall be worn by any worker whenever there is a possibility for exposure to chemicals

All personnel in the vicinity of waterjet equipment should be taught how to properly fit and use hearing protection prior to beginning any work activity. In specific situations, regulatory standards may require that dualhearing protection (earplugs and muffs) be used and that the company implement a formal hearing conservation program. For example, the pump operator is generally required to have dual-hearing protection (refer to OSHA standard 29CFR1910.95 or similar regulatory guidance for additional details).

Make sure that while the pressure is increasing, the wand or hand gun is turned off and pointed away from all personnel or loose objects that could become airborne.

When the trigger on the tooling is engaged, adjust the output pressure on the air compressor to the required setting.

The power source for pneumatic air excavation is typically provided by an air compressor, which is the source that feeds the hoses with pressurized air.

Basic Pneumatic Excavation Operations Before operations, match the air compressor size to the nozzle on the tool. To properly size the air compressor, make sure the air compressor flow rate is equal to or greater than the nozzle flow rate.

Leadership Essentials – Why You Should Have a Leadership Credo

R

emarkable leaders know that they must consistently align their decisions and actions with their values and beliefs. In doing so, they show they have integrity and that they can walk the walk, so to speak. Exhibiting this type of alignment is also the only way to build credibility, trust, and respect with those they lead.

In today’s busy world, it’s easy to get sucked into the fire drill of the day.

There are a million decisions to make, dozens of conversations to have, many directions in which to be pulled. The pressures leaders feel today make it easy for them to lose sight of why they wanted to lead in the first place. This slippery slope is how great leaders go astray and make decisions that go against their values and worse, get them in trouble.

That’s why you should create a leadership credo. A leadership credo is a simple framework that articulates your personal and professional beliefs and what’s important to you as a leader. It combines your values, purpose, leadership style, and vision into a statement that you can refer to and reflect upon when the days are flying by and you find that you need to ground yourself, remembering why it’s important to lead authentically and intentionally.

A leadership credo can be as simple as your company values. For example, at StoneAge, our credo is called the “OWN IT Mindset.” It’s straightforward yet inspiring: to be successful at StoneAge, each of us Page 26

must emulate and share the OWN IT Mindset; it’s our passion and purpose.

Safety Corner – Get Active in 2022

ome industries are inherently riskier than others. A computer programmer just isn’t likely to come in contact with a crane in the course of a workday, like someone on a large-scale construction job will. Those who do encounter major hazards, and those responsible for their safety, face challenges unheard of to a lot of people. How do you maintain a robust safety culture in these precarious environments? One way is to be active, as in actively participating in the safety process, the safety program, and the safety procedures.

C-Suite Action A positive safety culture starts at the top. Executives should demonstrate active, ongoing participation and concern for safety and not expect safety managers to exclusively fill this role. Furthermore, recognition for achieving safety goals goes a long way. If employees only hear from top level management when there’s been an accident, it often sends the wrong message. A team of people that is assured that their employer cares about their well-being is more likely to include productive performers who don’t look elsewhere for a job.

The Source of the Hazard If possible, choose to eliminate the hazards or minimize the hazards with controls. It’s essential to utilize the most effective method of controlling hazards before turning to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Guarding, safety gates, and even bollards and mesh cages go a long way in reducing risk. It’s also helpful to stay up to date on safety upgrades for the equipment that’s currently in your facility. For example, the manufacturer of a piece of your machinery may have recently released an updated guard to increase the machine’s safety.

Get Actively Involved with Your Procedures “Whoever thought this regulation made sense has never actually done this job.” Safety requires that employees take responsibility for following established procedures.

If safety regulations or procedures are confusing or stand in the way of getting the job done, employees may forego safety for the sake of completing the task. To minimize this, actively participate in safety procedures. Follow Page 30

the procedure documentation yourself to make sure it’s complete and understandable, and engage with employees.

Those performing these tasks day in and day out are great resources. Don’t discount their working knowledge.

Actively Inspect and Maintain Equipment Regular machine maintenance reduces hazards. An oftforgotten part of worksite safety lies with the machinery itself. Anytime a piece of your equipment isn’t running correctly, a worker could be injured. Checking belts, changing fluids, and oiling bearings are just a few examples of routine inspection and maintenance. These steps also reduce the likelihood of equipment failures and work stoppages.

Set Program Goals and Assess Progress Monitor both successes and failures. A safe working environment is a great goal; however, it’s not terribly specific. More measurable goals may be a 10% reduction in laceration injuries or a 20% decrease in struck-by incidents.

Furthermore, there are a number of ways to evaluate safety, but remember to be systematic, regularly assess that your programs still make sense, and make changes as needed.

Actively Communicate All Year Stay the course. You risk losing credibility if your plans aren’t carried out. Make a calendar showing who will communicate to whom and when. Assign tasks to people and follow up in quarterly meetings that the communication plan is proceeding as planned. If you’re worried that your program will lose steam, make a list of safety topics at the beginning of the year and schedule toolbox talks ahead of time.

Technical Tip: Increasing Waterjet Profitability with WARDJet

ncreasing the Profitability of Your Waterjet Cutting System

The profit margin of the goods sold by a company can be a good indication of the efficiency of their production process. Higher profit margins equate to more money in the company's pocket at the end of the fiscal year. Two ways to increase profit margins include reducing production costs and increasing part output.

Reducing physical production costs will lower the average part cost and add to your profit margin.

A significant portion of your part cost and profitability is related to your fixed costs. Increasing output allows you to spread the cost of your machine, overhead, and interest across more parts per day, lowering average part cost.

In this Technical Tip, we will discuss several waterjet cutting techniques that can trim production costs and grow total output, increasing the profitability of your waterjet.

Common Line Cutting It is possible to reduce the total amount of cuts needed to complete a project by utilizing common line cutting.

By overlapping the cut lines of two parts, the cutting stream cuts an edge on both parts at the same time. The common line cutting method can reduce overall cut time, decrease abrasive consumption, and maximize material usage. Utilizing this technique also minimizes wear on the waterjet’s on/off valve due to the reduction in the number of pierce points. Most waterjet software is capable of automating the common line cutting process, but this technique can also be programmed manually.

In this example of common line cutting, the red lines represent the toolpath. In the top photo, assuming part sizes of 3" x 12" and a cut speed of 10 inches per minute (ipm), the yield is 27 parts with 27 overall cuts. In the right example, given the same part size and cut speed, the yield is 32 parts in 11 cuts – 3 vertical, 7 horizontal, and 1 perimeter. As you can see, using common line cutting resulted in an increase in part production while decreasing job time, material waste, and abrasive usage.

Note: There are several things to keep in mind when utilizing common line cutting. The first is to be sure that parts are large enough to span at least three grates or slats so that parts will not tip up or fall through the grates. Tipped up parts can result in broken nozzles, far outweighing the savings in material and time. Secondly, keep tolerances in mind. As a nozzle wears and the stream width widens, parts will become smaller. You cannot add additional tool offset to common line cuts, so tolerances for the parts should be taken into account. continued on page 34

Technical Tip: Increasing Waterjet Profitability with WARDJet from page 32 Stacking The benefits of stacking are going to be more evident on thinner material (less than 11 ga.). More of the energy of the waterjet stream goes straight into the tank on thinner materials. This can be seen when you compare actual speeds on thin materials versus the theoretical speeds shown in cut speed calculators. For example, for 0.050" thick steel, a cut speed calculator will estimate 175 ipm for an “average” edge quality. Realistically you probably can’t cut this material faster than around 100 ipm. Machine acceleration and part geometry could also limit your actual average inches per minute to something even lower than that. In this scenario, cutting three or four sheets of 0.050" could be more cost effective. Four x 0.050" is the equivalent of 0.2" thick material. 0.2" thick material with an “average” edge quality is around 20 inches per minute times four sheets at one time equates to 80 inches per minute.

Un-nested parts

One interesting application for stacking is companies that waterjet cut laminated shims. In this application, 25, 50 or 100 sheets of material .001 to .005" thick will be tightly clamped together and waterjet cut.

As you go thicker and the efficiency of the waterjet process increases, the benefits of stacking decrease. For example, 0.125" steel for an average edge quality is around 40 inches per minute. Three sheets of 0.125" stacked equals 0.375" thick. 0.375" for average edge quality is 9.4 inches per minute. 9.4 x 3 = 28.2 inches per minute. In this case you might be better off cutting one sheet of 1/8" thick at a time.

Nested Parts

Note: Avoid stacking parts that require many pierce points. Frequent pierces can cause water and abrasive to accumulate between sheets, pushing them apart.

Nesting Nesting maximizes material usage by strategically placing parts on the workpiece. This both minimizes the amount of scrap material left behind and maximizes the total number of parts per cut. Software is available that will automatically nest parts, but it is possible to manually nest as well.

In the following example, 21 parts can fit onto the sheet.

After nesting, 30 parts can fit onto the sheet while the amount of scrap material is minimized. Both the nesting and common line cutting methods are used in the following examples.

Wideband vs. Narrowband in the Construction Industry By: Aarcomm Systems Inc.

I

n computing and wireless electronics, “bandwidth” refers to the maximum amount of data that can be transferred from one point to another across a given signal path, meaning that a wide bandwidth can hold more data at a given time than a narrow bandwidth. Nowadays, we tend to hear references to wideband technology more than narrowband, due to the saturated digital world we inhabit today where the sheer amount of data transfer is a hot commodity!

Bandwidth is limited at ALL frequencies, even for our beloved wideband. We love the data capacity demonstrated by our ability to stream our favorite Netflix shows at a moment’s notice, but when it comes to the construction industry, does this same principle apply? Can wideband technology provide the same level of efficiency and performance for operators of mobile construction and utility equipment?

The Narrower - The Better In the development of industrial remote controls, narrowband is usually the bandwidth of choice. There are presently two frequencies that are typically used for remote control of equipment. These are the 902-928 MHz

frequency and the second (and the most widely used) being the 2.4-2.483 GHz frequency. In both frequencies, there is a limit to the amount of data and power a transmitter can transmit. Since this also limits the overall performance continued on page 37

If we look at 1/8" thick steel again, where the 14/40 nozzle combination can cut it at 39 inches per minute, a 10-30 nozzle combination can cut it at 26 inches per minute. Two x 26 ipm = 52 inches per minute. As the graph below shows, the difference becomes less significant as thickness increases.

Running Multiple Jobs at Once The great thing about waterjet cutting systems is that no change of tooling is needed when switching from one material to the next. The same abrasive nozzle can go from cutting drywall to titanium without ever stopping the cutting stream. Consider programming multiple jobs into one cut and utilize the space that you have. The cutting table can usually accommodate more than one workpiece; multiple smaller jobs can be completed in one go if there is ample space. If different cut speeds or abrasive feed rates are needed, ensure that the adjustments are programmed at the correct point in the cut.

When starting a job on your waterjet cutting system, always ask yourself if you are maximizing the efficiency of the machine. Sometimes all it takes is a simple adjustment of the toolpath or alignment of parts on the workpiece to make a huge difference in machine profitability.

Industrial remote control systems should be optimized to provide as much range as possible. This isn’t because you need to go a long distance. In the industrial workplace you may want the radio waves to pass through concrete walls, such as when you’re working around warehouses, apartment buildings and even working underground.

The continuous movement of the infinity pattern allows the 750V to remove more material in a single pass, significantly reducing shadowing and making it unnecessary to follow-up with hand lancing. Hammelmann Pipemaster Available for Pressures Up to 3,000 Bar

H

ammelmann’s redesigned Pipemaster, ideal for removing both soft and extra hard deposits in straight or bent pipes and pipelines, is a manually operated, highpressure hose rotating system operating at pressures up to 43,500 psi.

Rotation is achieved by the rotating movement of the high-pressure hose. The slow rotating movement provides increased cleaning performance and deposit removal, and the feed of the high-pressure hose supports the unclogging of fully blocked pipes. The recoil catching device helps to ensure increased work safety.

Components of the pipe interior cleaning system include the rotating device, the hose deployment unit for supply and return, a spring coil, catching device, and clamping piece.

The Pipemaster cleaning system is responsible for twisting the hose in and out of the pipeline. The gearbox

is pneumatically driven and infinitely variable. The feed unit secures the rotating high-pressure hose and forwards it through two roller units. The lever determines the angle of the rollers to rotate the hose forwards or backwards.

The safety gear is equipped with a quiver tube in which the cleaning nozzle is safely and securely located.

The rotating union is safely covered under the protective hood. For maximum safety, a rotating coupling prevents the hose from running over the dirt in the pipeline and being damaged in the event of a pump failure. The swivel coupling only allows the hose to rotate above 4,350 psi.

The rotating high-pressure hose can be quickly and easily moved into and out of the pipe by adjusting the lever from the neutral position to the right or left.

His role includes commissioning new equipment and providing operational and maintenance training. He also provides troubleshooting and repair services for Aquajet equipment, including Aqua Cutter robots, Ergo Systems, Ecosilence high-pressure pumps and EcoClear water treatment systems.

ederal Signal Corporation has acquired substantially all the assets and operations of each of Deist Industries, Inc.; Bucks Fabricating, LLC; Roll-Off Parts, LLC; and Switch-N-Go, LLC (collectively “Deist”), all of which are located in Pennsylvania. Deist designs, manufactures, and sells interchangeable truck body systems for class 3-7 vehicles in the work truck industry and a full line of waste hauling products, including front/rear loading containers and specialty roll-off containers.

id Valley Industrial Services, a Wisconsin based environmental and industrial services company, joined the Superior Environmental Solutions (SES) family on December 31, 2021. With offices in central Wisconsin and Waterloo, Iowa, Mid Valley brings to SES a combination of talented people and valuable assets that substantially extends our geographic scope and capabilities in the industrial services marketplace. The expanded company’s service area will now extend north and west, with the ability to serve customers in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota.

Ortec Acquires Veolia’s Canadian Industrial Cleaning Division

A

long-standing player in industrial and environmental services in France, and already present in Canada through its engineering subsidiary (Sonovision), the ORTEC Group is solidifying its presence in North America with this acquisition.

The new entity, called Ortec Environment Services, employs 550 people across Canada, in 20 offices, and generates annual sales of $90M. A major player in the Canadian industrial cleaning and sanitation market, this company caters to industrial clients and to the public sector. Video inspection, cleaning of city/ municipal networks, industrial cleaning activities, and unit shutdown work for industrial clients, are all services that Ortec already offers in France.
