I use local accountants, book-keeper, website and SEO people, printers, advertisers, IT support etc. I use local leaflet distributors, not Royal Mail. My cleaners spend their money locally too”.

Chloé’s Blog A student view of life in Ipswich The long hot summer has finally taken its final bow and drawn its curtains as we head into September. I don’t know about you, but I am incredibly grateful for the cooler weather.

Pull those warmer clothes out from hibernation at the back of your closets and put away the strappy sandals and spaghetti strap tops. As we head into the last few months of 2018 one of the first hurdles we have to face is the back to school shopping trip.

Now I think everyone has been through this endless tirade of buying new shoes, pens that don’t leak and pencil cases that we all know are going to break within the first week, it’s fun to watch others do their back to school shopping. You do not want to get in the way of the parents.

Gripping their shopping trolleys so tight that it looks as if their knuckles are about to pop out and you see the ever-growing fear on their faces. It’s the battle of the protective mothers wanting to nab the best products for their kids, so they know that their children are going to school with the best stuff (you know, so it looks good for the parents).

Before you know it, you will be shopping for Halloween. Buying mountainous piles of

sweets to give to the adorable kids that knock on your door dressed as a monster. While the little voice in the back of your mind is hoping that not many kids knock at your door, so you have more sweets left over for yourself. I have always enjoyed Halloween and the festivities behind it. Taking my younger sister trick or treating has always been one of my favourite things especially when she gets given sweets she doesn’t like because they end up in my hands. The atmosphere is incredible and there’s nothing like going into a store with a Halloween section.

With nearing the end of another year, I always feel that the last 4 months are the most magical months. Filled with celebrations that include everyone. I find it increasingly interesting learning about what other cultures celebrate. One celebration I find interesting is Diwali the Hindu festival of lights. The idea that it signifies light winning over darkness is so positive and celebrates the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Whatever you celebrate, whether you believe in certain traditions or not, I hope the last few months of 2018 bring you happiness and joy. If you need me, I will be carving my pumpkins and stuffing my face with sweets!

Adam Thomas Love your music?

Check out this up and coming acoustic act I picked up the guitar from the very young age of 11 years old after me and my brothers discovering it in our loft, it was my mothers but herself never learned to play. We were always brought up on such a wide variety of music which is so great and always growing up in the middle of the country side gave us the opportunity to get creative with music and art in general.

I remember being in my first band as a lead guitarist from the age of 13; it’s crazy to think that even as children we had a following and were packing out venues and pubs around East Anglia!

I started developing a great passion for singing from around the age of 16 but I was always so scared and nervous. Despite my fears I knew that this is what I wanted to do, so from my late teens and early 20s I fronted the band, which my two brothers were in. It was amazing! We played all sorts and had a fair amount of original songs behind us. Sadly, things drifted apart and we all started doing our own things in our lives. I decided to take a break and focus on my “proper job” (I always hated that term!), but I was miserable with this and just wanted to get back into the music.

So, after the toughest year of my life (2017) I decided it was time, my focus is now

on myself as a solo artist. This decision has changed my life; I’ve always played music and now I rely on just myself - if anything goes wrong it’s down to me. I decided to follow and create my own journey; I watch people all the time copying other people’s journeys and they seemed to all end up in a big group following each other, which is fine, but for me I want to see more.

Since making the move to pursue my music career, I’m proud of what I’ve done and excited for the future. I’ve been booked as far as Liverpool and Darlington Yorkshire.

People say to me, “Isn’t that going to cost you a lot of money?”, and my response is, “It’s my passion first, the same people would spend money on their love and passion... or the pub. I want to see the country and more.

So I’m happy to travel and I want this... and to make a living out of it all is a bonus to me!”

I have many exciting things in the pipeline including a charity single to be released at Christmas. So keep an eye out... many many things to come!

My biggest bit of advice to any other aspiring musician... be yourself. This applies to anyone, in any career. You get one shot at this, so create your own journey.
