Classique Acrylic 8 Ply 100g

3 x balls Main Colour (M) 2 x balls Contrast Colour (C)

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

A pair 4.50mm knitting needles and 4.50mm circular needle (80 cm long), or size that gives correct tension. 2 stitch holders; A yarn needle.

TENSION

19 sts to 10 cm in width over patt, using 4.50mm needles. This blanket has been worked on bigger needles than normally recommended.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION

M1 = make one st by picking up loop that lies before next st and place on left hand needle, knit or purl into back of loop

BLANKET

Using 4.50mm circular needle and C, cast on 189 sts.

Note – Work in rows, not rounds.

Beg moss st lower border – 1st row (RS) – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st row for moss st until work measures 10 cm from beg, working last row on RS

Next row (WS) – Moss 17, leave these 17 sts on a stitch holder for side border; using M, work across next 155 sts as follows – P10, (M1 purlways, P8) 18 times, P1, turn, leave rem 17 sts on a stitch holder for other side border Cont on centre 173 sts for main piece. Beg patt – Using M, 1st row (RS) – K1, * P3, K1, rep from * to end.

2nd row – P1, * K3, P1, rep from * to end. – K1, * yrn, P3tog, yon, K1, rep from * to end. 3rd row – K2, P1, * K3, P1, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2. 4th row – P2, K1, * P3, K1, rep from * to last 2 sts, P2. 5th row – As 4th row 6th row – P2tog, yon, K1, yrn, * P3tog, yon, K1, yrn, rep 7th row from * to last 2 sts, P2tog. – P1, * K3, P1, rep from * to end.

Rows 1 to 8 incl form patt.

Cont in patt until (patt section) measures main piece approx 90 cm, ending with an 8th or 4th patt row Leave sts on needle

Beg Side Borders – With WS facing, using pair 4.50mm needles and C, moss across 17 sts from right hand side border stitch holder and cont in moss st until side border fits neatly (slightly stretched) evenly along main piece (using a flat seam, sewing in place as you go), working last row on WS. Break off yarn.

Slip these sts onto circular needle with main piece sts. With RS facing, using pair 4.50mm needles and C, moss across sts from left hand side border stitch holder and cont in moss st until side border fits neatly (slightly stretched) evenly along main piece (sewing in place as you go), working last row on WS.

Slip these sts onto circular needle with main piece sts.

Beg Upper Border – Using C, Next row (RS) – Moss across 17 sts of right side border, knit across 173 sts from main piece as follows – K1, (K7, K2tog) 18 times, K10, then moss across sts from left side border = 189 sts.

Cont in moss st across all sts until upper border measures 10 cm, working last row on WS.

Cast off in moss st.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends towards centre of blanket.
