MEASUREMENTS
Beanie - To fit head (approx) 54-56 cm
Fingerless Gloves - Length (approx) 20 cm
YARN
8ply Acrylic Polyester Knitting Yarn 100g
1 x ball 1st Colour (C1-plain)
1 x ball 2nd Colour (C2-print)
NEEDLES AND EXTRAS
1 pair 5.50mm knitting needles, or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle.
TENSION
15 sts and 23 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5.50mm needles and 2 strands of yarn together.
BEANIE
Using 5.50mm needles and 1 strand each of C1 and C2 together (= 2 strands), cast on 83 sts.
Beg rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form rib throughout. Cont in rib until work measures 17 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Shape Crown - 1st row - * rib 6, sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last 2 sts, rib 2 = 65 sts.
Work 1 row rib.
3rd row – * rib 4, sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last 2 sts, rib 2 = 47 sts.
Work 1 row rib.
5th row – * rib 2, sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last 2 sts, rib 2 = 29 sts.
Work 1 row rib.
7th row – * sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last 2 sts, rib 2 = 11 sts.
Work 1 row rib.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
FINGERLESS GLOVES (makes 2)
Using 5.50mm needles and 1 strand each of C1 and C2 together (= 2 strands), cast on 31 sts. Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form rib throughout.
Cont in rib until work measures 20 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Cast off loosely.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS.
Beanie - Using half mattress st, join side edges together to form centre back seam. Darn in ends. Using remaining yarns, make a pom pom and attach to top of hat as pictured.
Fingerless Gloves – Fold glove in half and using half mattress st, join side edges together to form side seam, leaving a 3-4 cm hole approx 4 cm from cast off edge for thumb opening. Darn in ends.
