MEASUREMENTS
Beanie - To fit head (approx) 52/54 (56/58) cm
Fingerless Gloves – To fit hand (approx) 20 (23) cm
Length (approx) 16 (24) cm
YARN
Chunky 100% Acrylic 100g x 2 (3) balls for both Beanie and Gloves.
NEEDLES AND EXTRAS
• 1 pair 9mm knitting needles, or size that give correct tension.
• A yarn needle; Strong sewing thread for sewing seam (to prevent a bulky seam.
TENSION
8.5 sts and 12 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 9mm needles.
BEANIE
Using 9mm needles, cast on 39 (43) sts.
Beg rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.
2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 4 (6) cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Work in stocking st until work measures 12 (16) cm from beg, ending with a purl row and dec 2 (0) sts evenly across last row = 37 (43) sts.
Shape Crown - 1st row - K1, * K2tog, K4, rep from * to end = 31 (36) sts.
2nd row - Purl.
3rd row - K1, * K2tog, K3, rep from * to end = 25 (29) sts. 4th row - Purl.
5th row - K1, * K2tog, K2, rep from * to end = 19 (22) sts. 6th row - Purl.
7th row - K1, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to end = 13 (15) sts. 8th row - Purl.
9th row - K1, * K2tog, rep from * to end = 7 (8) sts. 10th row - Purl.
Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends. Using strong sewing thread and half mattress st seam, join side edges together to form centre back seam. Make a large pom pom and attach securely to top of beanie as pictured.
GLOVES
Using 9mm needles, cast on 17 (21) sts.
Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row – K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Last 2 rows form rib throughout.
Cont in rib until work measures 16 (24) cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Cast off loosely.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Fold glove in half, using strong sewing thread and a flat seam, join side edges together to form side seam, leaving a 3 (4) cm hole approx 4 cm from cast off edge for thumb opening. Darn in ends.
