NEEDLES AND EXTRAS
1 pair 4.50mm knitting needles and 1 spare 4.50mm knitting needle, or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle; 3 buttons.
TENSION
19 sts and 36 rows to 10 cm over garter st, using 4.50mm needles.
This project has been worked on bigger needles than normally recommended.
HOODIE (worked in one piece)
Beg Back - Using 4.50mm needles and M, cast on 55 (59-6571) sts.
Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 20 (26-29-32) cm from beg, working last row on WS. Beg Sleeves - Cast on 30 (38-46-56) sts at beg of next 2 rows = 115 (135-157-183) sts.
Cont in garter st until work measures 13 (14-15-16) from beg of Sleeves, working last row on WS.
Next row - K48 (57-67-79), cast off next 19 (21-23-25) for back neck, then knit to end, thus completing Back.
Beg Left Front - Next row - K48 (57-67-79), turn and cast on 13 (14-14-16) sts, then knit to end = 61 (71-81-95) sts.
Cont in garter st until work measures 13 (14-15-16) cm from beg of Left Front, working last row on RS.
Next row - Cast off 30 (38-46-56) sts, knit to end = 31 (33-35-39) sts, thus completing Sleeve.
Cont on these sts for rem of Left Front until work measures 20 (26-29-32) cm from cast off for sleeve, working last row on WS.
Cast off loosely, thus completing Left Front.
Beg Right Front - Using M, cast on 13 (14-14-16) sts, with WS facing, knit across rem sts from needle = 61 (71-81-95) sts. Cont in garter st until work measures 13 (14-15-16) cm from beg of Right Front, working last row on WS.
Next row - Cast off 30 (38-46-56) sts, knit to last 4 sts, yfwd, K2tog (buttonhole), K2 = 31 (33-35-39) sts, thus completing Sleeve.
Cont on these sts for rem of Right Front for 6 (8-9-10) cm, working last row on WS.
Next row - Knit to last 4 sts, yfwd, K2tog (buttonhole), K2. Cont in garter st for 6 (8-9-10) cm, working last row on WS.
Next row - Knit to last 4 sts, yfwd, K2tog (buttonhole), K2= 3 buttonholes in total.
Cont in garter st until Right Front measures 20 (26-29-32) cm from cast off for sleeve, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely.
CUFFS
With RS facing, using 4.50mm needles and C, knit up 45 (49-53-55) sts evenly along straight side edge of Sleeves. Knit in garter st until cuff measures 3 cm, working last row on WS.
Cast off knitways.
Work other sleeve cuff to correspond.
HOOD (beg at face edge)
Using 4.50mm needles and M, cast on 79 (87-91-95) sts. Knit in garter st (1st row is WS) until work measures 16 (18-19-20) cm from beg, working last row on WS.
Shape back of hood - Next row (RS) - K38 (42-44-46), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K38 (42-44-46) = 77 (85-89-93) sts.
Next row - Knit.
Next row - K37 (41-43-45), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K37 (41-43-45) = 75 (8387-91) sts.
Next row - Knit.
Next row - K35 (39-41-43), sl 1, K2tog, psso, K35 (39-41-43) = 73 (81-85-89) sts.
Next row - Knit. Cast off loosely.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side and sleeve seams. Fold hood in half so that side edges meet and join back seam (cast off edge). Sew hood in position to neck edge, beg and ending 2 cm from front edges and gathering extra fullness to back neck. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
Using C, make a pom pom and attach to tip of hood as pictured.
