HOOKS AND EXTRAS
A 5mm crochet hook or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle.
TENSION
14 sts and 8 rows to 10 cm over patt, using 5mm hook. This project has been worked on a bigger hook than normally recommended.
SPECIAL ABBREVIATION
Pop = Work 5tr into next st, drop the last loop from your hook, insert hook into the top of first tr made, insert the hook back through last loop and draw through.
SHAWL
Using 5mm hook, make a magic ring.
1st row - (3ch, 5tr, 2ch, 6tr) in ring, turn = 12tr and 2ch.
2nd row - 3ch, 1tr in first st, 1tr in each st to 2ch sp, (2tr, 2ch, 2tr) in 2ch sp, 1tr in each st to last st, 2tr in last st, turn = 18tr and 2ch.
3rd row - As 2nd row = 24tr and 2ch.
4th row - 3ch, 1tr in first st, 1tr in next st, * Pop, 1tr in each of next 3 sts **, rep from * to 2 sts before 2ch sp, Pop, 1tr in next st, (2tr, 2ch, 2tr) in 2ch sp, 1tr in next st, rep from * to ** to last 3 sts, Pop, 1tr in next st, 2tr in last st, turn. 5th row - As 2nd row = 36tr and 2ch.
6th row - 3ch, 1tr in first st, * 1ch, miss next st, 1tr in next st **, rep from * to 1tr before 2ch sp, 1ch, miss next st, (2tr, 2ch, 2tr) in 2ch sp, rep from * to ** to last 2 sts, 1ch, miss next st, 2tr in last st, turn.
7th row - 3ch, 1tr in each tr and 1ch sp to 2ch sp, (2tr, 2ch, 2tr) in 2ch sp, 1tr in each tr and 1ch sp to last st, 2tr in last st = 48tr and 2ch.
Rows 4 to 7 incl form patt. Cont in patt until work measures approx 65 cm from centre of peak on first row, ending with 4th row and noting that there will be an inc of 6 sts in each row. Fasten off.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends. Make 3 chunky tassels and attach to each point of shawl as pictured.
