MEASUREMENTS
Width at cast on edge (approx) 80 cm
Length (approx) 155 cm
MATERIALS
Classique Acrylic 8 Ply 100g
2 x balls 1st Colour (C1) 2 x balls 2nd Colour (C2)
NEEDLES AND EXTRAS
A long pair 5mm knitting needles or 5mm circular needle (80 cm long) or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle.
TENSION
15 sts and 25 rows to 10 cm over patt, using 5mm needles. This project has been worked on bigger needles than normally recommended.
SHAWL
Using pair 5mm needles or 5mm circular needle and C1, cast on 120 sts.
Note - If using circular needle, work in rows, not rounds. Knit
3 rows garter st (1st row is WS).
4th row (RS) - Knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2 = 119 sts.
5th row - Knit.
Beg patt - Carry colour not in use loosely up side of work until required again.
Using C2, 1st row (RS) - Knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2 = 118 sts.
2nd row - Knit.
3rd row - Knit to end, winding yarn twice around needle for each st.
4th row - Knit to end, dropping extra loops from previous row.
Using C1, 5th row - Knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2 = 117 sts. 6th row - Knit.
Rep last 2 rows twice more = 115 sts. Last 10 rows form patt throughout, noting dee of sts as set.
Cont in patt and dee of sts until 6 sts rem.
Using C1 for rem, cont in garter st, dee one st (as before) at end of every RS row until 2 sts rem.
Next row - K2, turn, K2tog. Fasten off.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Darn in ends neatly.
Edging - With RS facing, using 5mm needles or circular needle and C1, knit up sts along edge that yarn was carried up along, working 3 sts for every 4 rows. Cast off loosely knitways.
