HOOKS AND EXTRAS
A 3.50mm and 4mm Crochet Hook, or sizes that give correct tension. A yarn needle; 2 (2-3-3-3) buttons.
TENSION
18 sts and 24 rows to 10 cm over de fabric, using 4mm hook.
BACK
Using 3.50mm hook and M, make 47 (51-53-55-59) ch.
1st row - Miss 1 ch, 1 de in each ch to end = 46 (50-52-54-58) de.
2nd row - 1 ch, 1 dc in each de to end.
Rep 2nd row 4 times = 6 rows in total. Change to 4mm hook and beg stripe patt. Do not break off yarn, carry ii loosely up the side of work.

Rep 2nd row 4 times = 6 rows in total.
Change to 4mm hook and beg stripe patt.
Work in stripe patt as for Back (noting after stripes are completed to work in M for rem) until work measures 16 (19-21-23-28) cm from beg, at the same time, inc one st at each end of next and foll 4th row until there are 36 (40-48-48-46) dc, sizes 9 months, 2 and 4 yrs only - then in every foll 6th row until there are (42-50-56) dc. All Sizes - Using M for rem, Shape Top - Next row - SI st in each of next 4 (5-6-5-6) dc, 1 dc in each de to last 4 (5-6-5-6) dc, turn. Rep last row once.
Next row - SI st in each of next 5 (5-5-6-6) dc, 1 dc in each dc to last 5 (5-5-6-6) dc. Fasten off.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Use a flat seam, join right shoulder seam. Placing buttonhole band over button band for 2 rows on left shoulder and whip st at armhole edge. Place a marker on side edge of Back and Front 11 (12-13-14-15) cm down from shoulder seam to mark armholes. Placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew in sleeves evenly between markers. Join sleeve and side seams matching stripes.
Neckband - Using 3.50mm hook and M, work 3 rows de evenly around neck edge including side edges of buttonhole bands, beg at left shoulder edge. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
